Wow at the bay skip. Are there other lamps you can jump up to?

Yes, the other one on the side is solid. But other lamps in general...I'm not too sure.

Quote:
For that Whale Bay trick, there are ten (or 5) Lums in that cage, so maybe I will get those, then do the trick. The Purple Lums takes a while to get in position, so time will still be saved.

EDIT: Do you have a video of those Sanctuary of Stone and Fire tricks?

Be careful, cause this trick is not easy.Btw, there are 5 lums in the cage.;) And I do have videos of the trick but I will check to see if they will skip some lums or not.

Well, this just really pisses me off. I found out how to skip killing that mini dude that resembles the guardian in the sanctuary of stone and fire, and now I can't do it again.Right when I pressed stop I got it and now I can't do it....Btw, here are some tricks. Now I don't think we even go in this area in a speedrun. Do we?

EDIT: Damnit! I cannot get this freaking trick on tape. Basically, I got up on the ledge that leads to the next room by grabbing hold of it. Some seam thing boosted me up there. Well, I'll record the trick tomorrow. I know you guys will love it. Skips no lums.  Wink

EDIT: I guess you guys will have to wait even longer until I find out what's wrong with my computer. <_< I'm using another one right now.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Skipping that guy is cool because not only do you not have to fight him, but you also get to skip the Golden Fists. There are a lot of places in this game where you can do the equivalent of a ghetto jump, so I think that's what you're talking about.

Quote:

1. Nice.
2. I actually knew about that one, but didn't post it because I don't go there. Good job finding it, though.
3, 4. I don't go there, but those will be useful for a 100% run.

Yes it is somewhat like a ghetto jump. It's hard as hell though. I'll try to get it on tape. And I had a feeling my tricks were places we don't go.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I tried it for a little while and noticed that a ghetto jump-like maneuver is indeed possible. I also tried that Echoing Caves trick with the rolling method you were talking about. I have it down pretty consistently and will definitely use it in my run. I will have to replace those 20 Lums, though. I have some backup Lums in Tomb of the Ancients that I can get; that will put me at about 14 in the red. I'll go through the game again and look for some more, preferably more than just 14 so I can still have a few backups.

New stuff:
Sweet! I'm glad you got the echoing caves trick down. Do you have the lum plan in a document or something? I'd like to see it. ^_^

I have it in a notebook. I'll post it some time.
Awesome tricks. I love the second one. Do you think you could get my Stone and Fire trick on tape as well? My computer is being dumb and I'm trying to reformat the hardrive or whatever. I would appreciate it if you could.  Smiley
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I couldn't get it to work, actually. Sad I noticed that when I jumped along the wall in a certain way instead of just jumping straight up, I gained a notable amount of height, but I wasn't able to get quite high enough.
Yeah, that's what is happening to me. I get lots of boosts. Sometimes I was higher than the ledge and still didn't grab it.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
There was another thread somewhere where I had posted my old Lum route. want to see if I can dig it up to compare?

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Sure. But did you get past Cave of Bad Dreams? I remember there was some problem with that.

EDIT: Here is my route; many Lums directly on the path are implied:

Lum Route

Woods of Light: 5
Fairy Glade:  20, 21
I don't get any extras in the wind tunnel room
Marshes of Awakening: 48
I skip one at the end; I don't jump on the rock that boosts you up to get three (right before the pirate in the boat)
Bayou: 49
All but the one in the second-to-last cage.
Sanctuary of Water and Ice: 40 or so
5 underwater; a few sliding.
Menhir Hills: 18 up to Clark
Cave of Bad Dreams: 49 + 1 in Marshes of Awakening
I don't get the one before the fight with the miniboss-type enemies for the orb because I often fall and end up wasting time waiting for the walls to come together again.
Menhir Hills pt. 2: 6 after Clark
Canopy: 38, 39
Both cages at the beginning.
Whale Bay: 44 or so
I get some in a cage right after the Carmen part; they're at the top of the ship.
Sanctuary of Stone and Fire: 15 or so
I get the five in the plumb-riding part.
Echoing Caves: 20 or so
Previously 40; I get some while barrel-flying and some in a cage after the first barrel-flying section.
Precipice: 48, 49
Top of the World: 43 or so
None that are too far off the path; at least 31 on the chair part
Sanctuary of Rock and Lava: 42
I get a few Lums behind pillars at the end while waiting for the Teensy to do his thing. I also get some in a cage while waiting for a rotating platform.
Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava: 41 or so
I take a slight detour to get ten before the boss fight
Tomb of the Ancients: as many as I need (if I don't have more than 541 at the beginning, I get some of the extra ones I was talking about to be safe)

As for cages, I ended up getting to the forties before, but now that'll be slightly different. Health is never really a problem; deaths are.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
deaths don't lose so much time, so I'd thought they'd be less of a hassle than missing some trick or missing some lums.

what happened when I was working on Rayman is that in real time I noodled around on mupen and got to the cave of bad dreams, whereupon what's his face suddenly disappeared when I was fighting him. I couldn't get dying to make him respawn, but I also didn't think to re-enter the level to check if it's a problem with the ROM or what. At about that time I decided to work on other games anyways, and that was that.
Sweet route cheese. 8) So that is with my Echoing Caves trick correct?

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Yes, that is with your trick (I just subtracted 20 from the Echoing Caves). I have yet to adjust it to account for those 20, though, although it is in better shape than I remember (I get five more than I had written down).

None of the tricks in the run are very difficult or waste much time if messed up, so deaths are more of an issue. If I miss Lums, I generally can get more later. However, most restarts are caused by excessive deaths.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Well, after taking a 3 month break from this run, I finally jumped back on it today and have completed Level 14. Level 15 will be completed later on today. Sorry I took such a long break, but college started back up and I'm a Theater Major, meaning I haven't had much free time at night.

Right now I believe I'm looking at a time of something like 1 Hour 43 Minutes through 14 levels recorded, 1 Hour 51 Minutes probably after I finish Level 15 later tonight. My projection for the run total is around 2 Hours 20-25 Minutes. Unfortunately there are a number of tricks that Manocheese and Unreal have posted that were not utilized in the first 13 levels, since they weren't discovered until these last few days. As a whole I would think the total time saved from those would only be maybe a few minutes, considering I would have to find 15 new lums to pick up since that's how many I get in the first part of the Echoing Caves(Level 11).

Hopefully I run around 2:20-25 will be acceptable though. I'm recording this with a VHS tape, and those won't be accepted in about 40 days, and since I don't have another way of recording yet, I'm just going to finish this run and hope it's good enough. In the future if I get a DVD Recorder I'll probably try to improve this one anyways.
Good luck on the rest of your run spike.  Smiley Too bad we couldn't have found these tricks eariler.  :-/
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Good luck with the rest of your run. Not having newer tricks is probably not going to be grounds for rejection.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
It's rarely been rejection for TASes either, so you should be good. Mostly I'm just looking forward to any types of Rayman speedruns to watch, so what you have will be good enough for me!

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I went through the game today with the new tricks in mind and here is the route I came up with:

Lum Route

Woods of Light: 5
Fairy Glade:  20, 21
Marshes of Awakening: 46
A more realistic estimate.
Bayou: 49
Sanctuary of Water and Ice: 40, 41
Menhir Hills: 23 before Clark
I now get five Lums that are being guarded by two sleeping guards (I fight them rather than sneaking by). I don't use Unreal's trick because there is a Lum right behind that door and it's faster or about as fast to blow the door up.
Cave of Bad Dreams: 49 + 1
The one between those closing walls is risky. If the walls open, I lose probably 8-10 seconds.
Menhir Hills pt. 2: 9 after Clark
I now get 3 in a cage in the room with the Purple Lums. I use Unreal's trick this time because I already have the Lum behind the door.
Canopy: 39
Whale Bay: 44
I don't use the lamp trick. It seems like a trick I would try a couple times before doing it the normal way in a run, so I decided to skip the trying it a few times part.
Sanctuary of Stone and Fire: 13
I get some more Lums here and there.
Echoing Caves: 23
I can get this many if I'm careful.
Precipice: 49
Top of the World: ~44
At least 31 on the chair.
Sanctuary of Rock and Lava: 42
Beneath the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava: ~41
Basically, all but the ones at the very beginning and some out-of-the-way ones.
Tomb of the Ancients: 18
I get all my previous backup Lums, which are a little slow, unfortunately.

It's a bit tighter than my old one as far as tolerance for missed Lums goes, but that's the way the cookie crumbles. As always, new playthroughs reveal new tricks:

Haha, I've been trying to find a way to get through that door forever(second trick). Third one is awesome.

I have an idea for a new trick. It's at the end of the Canopy. We should try to clip through the door like the Echoing Caves trick. I've played with it before and it was similar to the seam in Echoing Caves. The door that you have to sneak into by using the bush. Btw, good job with the route.

I found a sweet new death warp in Tomb of the Anctients. I can't upload it though. >_> Basically it's in the room with the second switch on that high pole. Instead of jumping on the platform and hitting the switch, hit the switch from the web, then fall into the lava to warp to that other room. The trick is to not get that green lum next to the switch.

edit: This also works on the third switch. Hit it and don't collect the green lum. I have both of them on tape and will upload them maybe this weekend. If you can't wait, then someone can make a video of it for me or something. >____>

I tried that a while ago, but wasn't able to hit the switch without getting the Green Lum. How did you do it (A verbal description is fine)? The third one seems like it should be easy enough.
Third one is easy and the second one is a bitch. Basically, I jumped off the web and positioned myself to the front of the platform. Then I quickly angled myself to hit the switch. Rayman's bullet thing isn't going to go directly to the switch so you have to have good aim and good hieght. Try to stay a good distance away from the platform so the lum won't get you. It's a really tough trick. Took me a while to get it.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
I'll try it, but it might not make it into my run if I can't get it consistently. As for the hypothetical Canopy trick, that may or may not work; I think the reason it works in the Echoing Caves has to do with the downward slope near the door. Feel free to try, though.

EDIT: I will probably not use the trick for the switch near the web, but I will use the other one.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Finished an attempt today. It was really bad, so I won't submit it. There were 5 deaths total (aside from the Iron Mountains, which I'll get to in a second):

One in the Sanctuary of Stone and Fire; cost about 20 seconds
Two in the Precipice; one cost about five seconds, one cost maybe 30
One in the Sanctuary of Rock and Lava; cost about 10 seconds
One in Tomb of the Ancients; cost about 10 seconds

The worst part of the attempt was easily The Iron Mountains, where I lost about three minutes on one little section that should be a piece of cake. The good news is that I found a way to do it consistently, so I will hopefully never mess up there again. The final time was 2:27:19. Without the shenanigans in the Iron Mountains, I am already sub-2:25; without the other deaths, 2:23 or so. I think 2:23 will be my (rather loose) goal unless some new timesavers are discovered.
Which section of the Iron Mountain did you die in? I haven't been too lucky with finding timesavers lately.
