I'm curious but could you upload a video of at least one full stage completed, I wonder what your playing style is and how you would go about speedrunning one level.

I would just go fast... You will see all the levels (besides the Walk of Power/Life) once I finish my run and it's posted.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Status update: I did some attempts today and yesterday for the first time in a while. None of them got very far (the farthest was Whale Bay), but I did find another run-killing glitch... Yes, you guessed it, in the middle of a run!

Also, I was too lazy to make a video of it, but in Whale Bay, that timesaver I posted in my original trick video ("Rayman 2 Tricks", I think) works even if the barrel guy is there.
Damn number 3 is wierd.

Those first 2 were awesome (I think with all the vids you've shown, that combined you are far faster than I was when I tried TASing this game) and that 3rd sucks that it happened during a run.

I am really eagerly awaiting this, and I don't get to say that very often with SDA runs in the making.
Impressive tricks.  Wink
It's been years ago since I played that game the last time on my PSone.

I'm really looking forward for that run!

A little late for me to be asking, but are you jumping on all slippery slopes for the massive speed boost? (you can even extend that boost over normal ground by jumping at the last slippery part, and sail over normal ground at high speed. You can see this in my unoptimal TAS.)

Any new progress? I haven't seen any posts or new youtube vids uploaded... does this mean it's getting close to completion?
I've just come across a glitch in the Echoing Caves that skips hitting the 4 switches to open that door. It's so wierd.I've been able to do it 2 times.I walked up to the door and jumped and I was pushed through.I'll get this on tape if I can do it again.

It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
yikes o-rama! Looks like you roll into the doorway and then just go through like nothing's there. Quirky and awesome.
I've found an easier way to do this by lining up right in the middle of the door and then jumping and rolling into it.It's a toughy.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Nice trick. In my route, there are quite a few Lums (15) that I get while hitting those four switches, so I don't know if I'll use that or not.

For those wondering, I have not worked on my run for a long time, but hopefully I will have time to do so over Thanksgiving Break (and, later, Christmas Break).

There are tons of Lums that are closer to the path than the 15 gotten from getting those 4 switches. I find it hard to believe that this trick shouldn't be incorporated because of this. Maybe if it was damn difficult to do and could mess up a single segment, but for 15 Lums? some easy route changing no problemo.

You're probably right. My Lum plan currently gets me more Lums than necessary, and those 15 (or 20, can't remember) could be made up elsewhere.

I'm not sure what boost you're talking about.
I think I know what he's talking about. When you jump while going down a slippery slope, you will cover more ground than just sliding. Then again, I may be wrong.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
Yep, Unreal is right. As soon as you gain control in the pirate ship and shoot your way through the gate, you're in a slippery tunnel. Any time you press A and jump, you'll get a nice speed boost. keep in mind however that this boost is based on your speed and direction. If you're not going very fast, you won't jump very far, and it is very, very hard to control your direction. but anytime you're sliding; jump.
Is this the boost you're talking about? Something like this? I've been able to do this consistent. When you fall off an edge Rayman automatically jumps but if you add in a jump at the right time with the auto jump, you will get a big boost. That's my theory.

I'm going to playthrough this game again and try to help out by finding tricks.

EDIT: Two more tricks.First one might not even save time.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Oh, yes, I have been using that extensively. I do it on most of the sliding parts except where there is a void nearby.

Good tricks. I can't believe I didn't think of the second one. I will probably not use the first because it looks like it could be easy to mess up.
Two more tricks.I modified your skull trick against the Guardian.Might save like a second. And the last one is pretty easy but you can get a farther jump than I did.

I found a neat little death warp in the Canopy as well.It might be old though.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
The first one makes the trick a lot safer IMO (just from watching it; I'll have to test it). For the second one, I do have to get the Lum behind that door, but jumping past it is probably faster anyway. Plus, I don't need to get the Lum the second time I go there, so I'll definitely use your trick then. Third one is cool. Keep 'em coming; it's good to see someone else working on the game. Smiley

Alright, I'll see what I can do.  Wink

EDIT: I got two new Sanctuary of stone and fire tricks.  Smiley But I did these on a completed file so I think I might have skipped a few lums.  Sad

I wish I could help out in finding tricks and such, but for some reason Rayman 2 is one of those games where good time saving tricks elude me.

Wait oh! one thing I did find. I once was curious if jumping and rolling was faster than normal running. It isn't, by a marginally small amount. Using memory watching I found a (mostly) accurate address that told me Rayman's max running speed is 55; when he jumps, it's 54, and when he rolls it's 55. So run, don't jump.
I was thinking about the running vs jumping thing Comical....I was wrong. Here's an awesome trick I found in Whale Bay. Well, let's wait for it to process. >_< It will appear here.

I tried running and shooting a while ago because I noticed that, using it, I was able to reach some platforms in the Precipice before they blew up that I couldn't otherwise. The test I did seemed to show that it was not any faster than normal running, though.
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
yeah, I didn't notice shooting to speed it up at all either. Also, backwalking doesn't work :-[

My guess is that you were affecting luck by shooting.

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
For that Whale Bay trick, there are ten (or 5) Lums in that cage, so maybe I will get those, then do the trick. The Purple Lum takes a while to get in position, so time will still be saved.

EDIT: Do you have a video of those Sanctuary of Stone and Fire tricks?
It's time to use the HEALING TOUCH
Wow at the bay skip. Are there other lamps you can jump up to?
