Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
If your run was stolen and posted on a site like YouTube, your best bet is to send a notice like this (to copyright@youtube.com, in the case of YouTube, which is the most common place to find stolen runs). DMCA notices are universal, so a similar notice will probably work elsewhere as well.

Question for Those Who've Had Stolen Runs Removed

From YouTube, as an example. Did you just e-mail this information to YouTube, or was there some other process? I ask because I recently found my speed run on YouTube with the uploader taking credit:

He also has several other runs. Angry Advice would be appreciated.
Thread title:
Visually Appealing
i haven't had an entire run of mine stolen, but i have had individual segments stolen. i contacted the person who posted the videos, sent them the link to the video info on SDA, and flagged the videos. he deleted all but one, but whatever.

try that, and if they be a dick about it, then contact Youtube.
Yeah that was basically how gamergx was removed.  fill that out following all the require information and it should get removed.  might as well do the other videos also while your at it.  now i am going to be an complete idiot newb and go write ramdom annoying messages and comments to him.   Grin hehe

Edit:Nevermind about writing to him just get youtube involve and get it over with.  acting like a jerk is fun and tempting but don't have time.  if you need a sample of the form, i will post it here.  (i think i still have it somewhere.)

If someone uploads your run, take it as a compliment.
not when someone takes credit for it.

Someone stole my wallet last week.  I sure am glad other people like the looks of my wallet and what I keep inside it.

True story...
Well not really.
That bastard stole my MPH run!  Angry

Took the Stat IDs out too.  I noticed that on Lucid's Symphony run as well.
wow, fantastic. fuck shutting down his account, hunt him down and kill him!
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!

Wow, it's one thing to post the video and not acknowledge how it was produced, thus neglect to mention anything about who produced it or where you got the video from. It's a completely other category when someone deliberately edits out the Stat IDs to claim the video as their talent. I agree with Nate, I say we all ...

Complete. Global. Saturation.

This response makes the whole situation worthwhile.

Really though, "Here's a speedrun that I did for (name of game)"? If that was my run, I wouldn't be too happy about that. In fact, I'd be downright pissed. All that time, effort, planning, recording, and restarts I had to go through just so that some punk can steal it and claim it as his own? And let's not forget the work the people at SDA do too in order to help get it onto the site. To make it worse, he's a 16 year old in Canada! I'm very ashamed of this boy who I would have called a fellow countryman at one point. I say shut this bastard down.

Wow, he stole groobo's Diablo run too.  You can see when the name is entered: GROOBO.  Just insane what some people will do.  I'm going to stay up tonight and comment on all his movies, bastard...

I've checked out the Doom 3 run and SotN runs he has on that account and they were both pulled from SDA.  I'd say all his runs were taken.
I sent a lengthy email to YouTube about this guy. Hopefully he gets sent to Canadian jail.
I like neko girls :3
Crap like this why I've started watermarking my stuff. I could maybe sort of understand if he gave complete credit to the speedrunner, but this is just lame theft.

Maybe for future runs, you could program a marquee that briefly runs in the middle of a video, stating that the video is property of XXX and from SDA or some such.

But the mounties have had their horses taken away by the new Canadian prime minister, and now they're forced to ride...

Newsflash!

I think it was over a month ago tagh_azog tipped me off about this guy stealing my D3 Nightmare run. I don't care too much though since I'm in the progress of crushing that run completely.

Looks like he's blocked comments until they're approved by him.  How lame is that.  I can't comment on his account because only friends can do that, and his videos don't accept video responses.

YouTube basically allows for this type of behaviour.  I guess the only way to combat this is for the runners to submit copyright violation notices.  I thought YouTube was a little more publicly moderated, but no, absolutely not.

I know you may not particularly care since you'll be making a faster run soon, but then he'll probably steal that one too.  Only you can submit the copyright violation notice as the original producer of the work.  Think of the other runners and help bring this guy's account down.

Another reason I'm not bothering to file a complaint is that they make it far more difficult to do so than it has to be. It's like they encourage video theft or something.

Edit: The main thing is that YT requires the site to have a copyright notice somewhere. As far as I know no such notice exist anywhere on SDA (at the moment of writing), so I think there is a big chance that any complaint about SDA content is currently seen as a non-legit complaint. So before we have this copyright notice, on the game list or the index site perhaps, I don't think we can complain about shit at YT.
Waiting hurts my soul...
I agree... it is far too difficult to report copyright violations.  I mean, first only the original creator can report the violation, and that person has to jump through so many hoops.  I mean, come on, who's going to get a lawyer for a video you're not making money from, but you still want credit for the video.  Without money loss there's not much legal recourse, but stealing is stealing and YouTube should be able to determine in cases like this that this guy needs to be shut down.

About all I'm able to do is flag the videos as spam, give the videos a 1 rating and give a thumbs down to all the comments.
TIOLET!
You know, if we ask nicely (and all that bullshit), maybe they can take a look at it if we just provide them with a shitload of links. So they can compare the material, publish dates, names and so on, after a notification has been put up... if a notification is even going to be put up.

Even the apes at YT might be able to understand our quite unique situation here at SDA.

Well, I sent the notice. Luckily, I had already uploaded my run to YouTube in case this sort of thing happened, and I gave them the links to my videos. I agree that YouTube effectively encourages theft because of how difficult they make it to get videos taken down. Unfortunately, adding things like watermarks will just make SDA's videos a pain to watch.
Waiting hurts my soul...
I sent a complete detailed list of this person's video came from this video on SDA, but I don't expect anything to happen.  Hopefully in combination with Manocheese's email, they'll get that it's legit.

A while back, a website was re-hosting videos on Youtube from SDA, Game Theater or something and one of my runs was on there.  Good thing they suck so much, or I'd really have to put up with this a lot.

ANYWAY!  I simply emailed the Copyright Violation address, gave them the date the video was uploaded to SDA, a link to the News Page with the run featured, the comments page and the direct link to a number of segments to compare it to and requested that it would be removed.  It was taken down about two days later.
Demon of the Sea
Why don't you guys request him as a friend. Then give him a message titled, "nice speedrun". Then you tell him what a rotten thief he is. You can do it you're way. You can also threaten him.

"I have connections with some powerful people. If you don't immediately remove those speedruns, I'll track you down, and you can guess what will happen next"
