I am finding way too much shit in this game to not make a thread by this point.

For anyone not in the know, Quantum Conundrum is a new puzzle game just released a couple days ago. It was designed by Kim Swift, who was the lead designer on Portal, so it's pretty similar in a few ways, but it's also very fresh and pretty good overall.

Anyway, I played it through the other day, and I'm trying to get 100%, but I just keep finding things. Turns out this game actually seems fairly breakable! So here's what I've got:

Object Flying: This is probably the biggest thing I've found; figured it out like half an hour into my first playthrough. Basically, to do this you'll need to have fluffy dimension, and any object that you can hold in fluffy dimension but not in normal. You'll want to stand on it in normal dimension, then jump, switch to fluffy, grab the object, switch back to normal to force yourself to drop it, then jump again and repeat. You can use this to gain infinite height. The timing is basically: press jump then grab, while simultaneously double-tapping fluffy. It's incredibly easy once you get the timing down. You can use this to skip everything in A Boost Of Confidence and I believe it skips things in quite a few earlier puzzles as well, though I don't remember which.

By the way, it's also worth noting that when you use object flying while moving, after you do a couple jumps you will start to go a lot faster than normal. Should come in handy for runs.

OoB via unloading levels: I've only found one spot to do this, but it seems feasible there could be others, and if so, this has a lot of potential. On the level A Minor In-Conveyance (second-to-last in the blue wing), if you use object flying, then after you reach a certain height the level for some reason partially unloads, which lets you jump out of bounds. In the video I show a way to use it to skip the entire level. Basically you go into the level far enough to get a chair, then backtrack with it back to the beginning of the level, use object flying to unload the barrier, then go on the other side and have the level reload around you. It's honestly pretty hard to pull off since the level doesn't like to reload most of the time <_<

Preserving momentum through restarts: This is a kinda dumb one. When you restart a level through the pause menu, when you reload you will have the same momentum you had before you restarted. This means that if you pause to restart immediately after jumping, then you can either do a crazy high jump right at the beginning of a level, or you can start the level with an insane speed boost. I don't really know if this would help anywhere in a full-game run, but it should prove useful for ILs (though it would also be a huge pain in the ass). My Hang Time run linked below showcases this exploit.

Here's a few IL runs I did showcasing some shortcuts in a few levels:

Not Your Typical Sushi Bar (12.04): Stand on the first safe, flip gravity and let it smack you into the ceiling to get it to move toward the exit door, then jump back on and ride it to the end. The safe seems to go in the opposite direction of where you're standing on it when you hit the ceiling. Here's a slight improvement over my strat by TheMrStimich on YouTube.
Choose Wisely (22.35): The only thing you need to finish this level is fluffy, then throw the safes onto the buttons. It is ridiculously hard to do. I honestly don't know how you're supposed to press those buttons. >.>
Hang Time (8.95): You can skip the entire puzzle and finish in 0 shifts by jumping from the windowsill onto the staircase.

Mk, that's all... for now. Quite a bit, considering it's only been out for a day and a half or so. Anyway, hope a few more of you are interested in breaking this game.

edit: Oh, one more thing: if anyone might be thinking about running this, it would be good to make sure you have the game backed up now, in the event they end up patching out some of this stuff.
Thread title:
I just picked this up and I must say that I am very interested to work on this game. I have just learned the object flying trick and I must say, that well-executed, this can save a ton of time.

So, preserving momentum through restarts? Turns out you can do the same thing by reloading CHECKPOINTS. That... might prove interesting.

Cat's In The Cradle: You don't need to get the heavy battery. If you put the safe on the veeeery edge of the button, you can weigh it down in normal dimension without destroying the safe.

Robot Block Party: The entire level is about getting fluffy so you can cross that gap at the beginning. You also happen to start fairly close to the gap. I feel like there's some potential here to skip the puzzle by preserving momentum through a restart; unfortunately the biggest speed boost I could get on this level (having the robots push the safe off the ledge while standing on it) is in the wrong direction.
Paraxade, what are your thoughts regarding segmented and SS runs? The amount of mistakes in a SS run are going to add upp quite a lot I reckon.
I dunno, either would cool. If someone feels comfortable going for an SS run then go for it.
I have been looking into this game, since I already run portal, and this shares similar mechanics here and there. Personally I would go for a SS run.
If anyone can find the files that I would need to copy to start a new game (or find out if starting a new game resets your IL times, the way they worded it makes me think it does) then I could start doing some SS runs and get some estimate times out.
Found this thread on the Steam forums: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2766072

There are some pretty interesting strats here lol. Two new exploits I learned of from skimming around and watching some of the runs. First you can apparently press down switches in fluffy dimension by stacking a LOT of items on it. It's interesting that the game actually calculates how much weight is on the button total rather than just checking whether there is any single item with enough weight to press it. Second is apparently there's a way to hold down switches with nothing on them, as seen here. Interesting stuff.
I just started playing this today and I'm hooked. Since I just started playing today, I'm not familiar with most of those advanced methods. But, I've been speed running for minimum time while also at least meeting the switch goal (in some cases I've gone under it to improve my speed). You may or or may not find something of interest in the playlist I recorded today... (I'm still working on new recordings, so there might be something else soon...)

Lately, I've been doing SS attempts for this game. So far my PB is 1:18:09 and feel that a sub 1 is completely possible (just need some more practice) and was wondering if anyone else has seen or done SS attempts before? I couldn't find any records/videos of anything besides individual rooms

Edit: Just got a 1:12:30 on stream ^o^. lost 6 minutes on "a minor in-conveyonce" and then some other small mistakes throughout
Managed to bring the time down even further, 1:10:47. I stopped doing the strat  "a minor in-conveyance" since I can't find a consistent method and waste alot of time/runs on it. Still think this time can be heavily improved Smiley

The 1:10:47 run from my stream yesterday.
Yet again, I was able to cut off minutes from my PB, and it now sits at 1:05:37, would of been under 1:05 but I somehow managed to die at the very last part xD. I'm very pleased with the Blue and Red Wing for this run, Yellow Wing could definitely be improved though.

That looks awesome ^.^ I am planning on buying the game soon, so I will not spoin it yet. I guess I will start running it aswell after that, I love puzzlers, especially from the maker(s) or portal! Keep going and help me get into running QC then xD

Awesome, I'd love to see more people pick up Quantum Conundrum :3.

Once I get a nearly flawless run, I may do some commentary for it. There isn't a whole bunch of crazy glitches but its easy to get lost if you have never played/seen this game before.
Starting to get really close to the 1 hour mark. I know there is plenty of time to be saved in the blue wing as well as on "a minor setback".

Another little update:

Before, I thought I'd just be able to crack the hour mark, but I think with a really good run, it would possible to get around 58 mins. I was able to get a new PB last night (1:01:15), but there were a ton of mistakes and easily lost 2 minutes on the red wing alone. Overall, I'm not pleased with this run at all, and still not sure how i managed to cut off half a minute from my old PB, so I'll definitely be pushing for a cleaner run.

P.S. once I'm perfectly happy with a Single-Segment run, I might do a segmented run since there are a ton of crazy strats that simply aren't consistent enough for a Single-Segment run.
I thought that when I got under the 1 hour mark, that it would really difficult to push for any lower of a time. Yesterday, I managed to achieve a 59:15 and initially thought that it was a pretty good run with a few big mistakes and just a couple small ones, but after watching the replay I realized that this run was filled with mistakes.

The 59:15 Run:
http://www.twitch.tv/bl00d_thunder/c/1929940

I will continue to cut time off this run until I'm perfectly happy, and might even be able to get it as far as 55 minutes with a near perfect run
I'll probably be picking this game up. I really liked it and I can see that it's going to be a lot of fun to run. Hopefully I'll be pumping out some runs in the coming weeks.

Awesome, if you need any help with tricks/routes just feel free to ask. It's all pretty basic, nothing to difficult. At least not yet.
Part of a balanced breakfast.
I was considering speed running this but I think Blood Thunder's got that covered.

I take that as a compliment ^o^, but I think there is plenty of room for more than just myself to run this game.

Yeah, but I'm playing it now and I'm no good at it.  Tongue
Just takes a little practice. There are actually very few tricks to the run, it's mainly just knowing what needs to be done for each room and applying one of the few tricks. then you get those rooms where you can't do anything except the intended way.

That's absolutely the wrong mindset to have.  A little healthy competition never hurts and might actually make both of you better.

I think that's kind of been the SDA mindset for a while, but I agree that it is the completely opposite of how it should be. Competition is never a bad thing.

On a side note, I've been practicing a lot over the past few days and have managed to find quite a few time savers which should ultimately really help in bringing this time down even further. From my PB, I believe at least 2 minutes can be taken off from the Yellow Wing alone, and perhaps another 1-2 minutes in the Blue Wing. I still need to practice the Red Wing and the end(which I may have found a pretty big timesaver for, if I can manage to replicate it)
