Never any doubt!
Ok, here is the complete run of Penumbra Black Plague done by Kotti on the easiest difficulty in 5 segments for 21:34.

Here is the run at youtube.

Enjoy!

My old comment in this post:
Ok here is a theme for Penumbra Black Plague. I am starting a speed run of the game. I will try to make it as fast as I could.  Wink

I want to know how interested you are in that run and I will be grateful if you tell me some trick or tactic that you have discovered. Thanks Cheesy
Thread title:
I'm interested Wink

So you're going to make a segmented run or a Single-Segment?
On which difficulty?
In any game from the Penumbra series it should be done on Easy in my opinion. Hard only makes it slower since you only take more damage, it doesn't really change anything else. Hard doesn't make it much more impressive, just slower.

By the way, it's "Plague" instead of "Plaguie". You may want to change the thread's title (And maybe your post, too) Wink

It will be on Single-Segment and I will use the Hard Difficulty. You are wright it dosen`t matter except when you were outside in the snow and the cold can kill you easyly.Anyway you have sayed it doesn`t matter so Hard Difficulty.  Wink

About my mistake I may thought about someting else(actually I have been thought about Penumbra Requiem).Well it`s fine now Thanks.  Grin
Speed is everything!
As you already know I'm also interested! Wink
And of course I'll wish you good luck.... and why should I say you my tricks if you won't say yours. Grin
Propably you know all my tricks if your time is much better than mine. Cheesy But I don't really know how fast I can get cuz I didn't really tried it... just a normal playthrough with tricks to test them.
Maybe we could all share our tricks to make two great runs! Smiley

Yes you are wright but since you haven`t told me any of your tricks I wll tell one of mine for a beginning.  Grin

There are three times in the game where you must cross through explosives and you may always jump over them.Anyway my tactic is deactivating the explosives really fast.I must click on it first and then to click on each of the four "+" while I start from the most higher one.And it saves a lot of time...  Wink

Now is your turn.  Roll Eyes

TheVoid: 2008-08-23 06:13:22 am
I just checked the first beams you encounter in the game, but they can't be deactivated by only clicking on the four "+" signs Smiley I think the fastest way to unlock the first beams is:

1 5
2 6
3 7
4 8

8, 7, 6, 5, 5, 7, 8

There's another way to get through this whole part without deactivating the beams but I think it would only be suitable to do fast for a segmented run.
When you get out of the ventilation shaft, run on the body on the floor and jump over the beams. Then later on when you get back here to fill the Clean Syringe, jump on the box on the right (The plus/minus box) and then you can click on the body to fill the Clean Syringe. It's also possible to not jump on the box but stand very close to the beams and jump up and then click on the body Smiley

EDIT: Ah, the other 2 beams can be deactivated by clicking only the four "+" signs. But you don't have to go there since the Gas Mask isn't necessary (Although on Hard it probably is...).
Speed is everything!
Hmm, I don't really understand what you mean with beams and the "+" signs! Undecided

Well I'll tell you some tricks I found out,
You can skip the whole dream sequences by flying over that whater-room with using a box. (There are many shortcuts by using the fly trick).
You can run through gas with using painkillers, so you won't need to get the gas mask.
It's possible to get out off the maps for example by walking up a destroyed ventilation shaft.

Those are the fastest and only one I remember now... Grin
When I remember some more I'll tell you! Wink

I mean this.

I'm aware of this one Wink
Although I was using a box in the water to get myself across (You can make, while being on top, a box float further away to the other side). Item flying seems a bit more difficult to do in Penumbra: Black Plague.

Hmm, ok. Good for Hard then Smiley

Walking up a destroyed ventilation shaft? O_o I'm not sure what you mean with this.
There are also walls you can just get up on with jumping against them. Like in the outside snowy part for example (Though not useful there since it's slower).

It's better if we all just write down here all the tricks because otherwise someone will try to attempt a run and finishes it, and then someone else points out other stuff... Grin
Never any doubt!
I were told you wrong trick.Actually you must click on the "-" from the most higher one(not the "+").I have though that the "+"-es are on the left(excuse me for that).Well tell me that it doesn`t works now. Wink

Yeah, but it's hard to explain for me! Grin But I will try it:
If you walk up an object (for example a plank or in the one level that destroyed ventilation shaft) which lays in an 45° angle from the ground,
you can go through the ceiling. Don't know if you understand it better now^^

Here another discribtion:
--------------  <-- Ceiling
\O                  <-- Player
\
  \                  <-- Object which is in a 45° angle
--------------  <-- Ground

I hope you will understand it now... Cheesy At the moment I can't upload a video to show it. :-[

Ah, lol, I didn't know that it's able to get through those beams that way! I always used the barrels and used the syringe through the beams...

You don't need to take a box from the water (if I understood you right^^), at the beginning of the level is also a box, so you don't need to get into the water.

Last time I played or runned the game was a few months ago!

And in future we will discuss Penumbra Requiem... Grin
Never any doubt!
Well I also can`t play it for now but after a week will.

Do you mean the destroyed ventilation shafts near the beginning of the game (Where you need to get the can out of the sodamachine)? If yes, I'm not getting through the ceiling there. It would be better if you could show a video.

Quote:

Through the beams? I never was able to do it through the beams since they cover the whole lower part like a wall Smiley

Quote:

Yeah I know about this one little box there in the beginning... There's exactly one little box there so it almost seems like it's intended to use it to fly over the water... Wink Shall try to fly sometime myself. Would definitely be faster since you don't have to raise the water.

Well, I guess I'll start writing a novel in the next days of all the tricks and stuff that I'm aware of Smiley

Yeah, i mean that level. When I tried it I always fell off the level and died. But maybe it can be used at one place or so...
I could upload a video soon if you would like! Wink It's not so easy to get through the ceiling, you have to jump and have a special position... Cheesy

Well I have an important question for you guys.I need to know how bright you need to be my run because if I put the gamma to 2.0 I may not need to use flashlight! So I am asking  - Can I play with I little more bright game from normal or no?

Sure you can up the Gamma some more, I would suggest to put it a bit in the middle or a little higher, don't make it too bright though Wink

EDIT: ZeRo, no need for a video anymore about getting through the ceiling in the ventilation shafts room, I just found it myself Wink
Igyanata, Gamma 2.0 is a pretty good value.

EDIT: You know what? I'm going to make a HTML page of Penumbra: Black Plague tricks and put it on SSDQ, create a couple of videos for things difficult to describe and such Smiley

Great idea! After the video you will know all my current tricks that works. I've also found out some maybe-tricks which don't really work.
For example you can open closed doors with a chair for a bit, but maybe you could open them enought to pass them! Cheesy

EDIT: Finally I have uploadet the video. Here you can download it!
Never any doubt!
Exelent! You know everything would be use except the gas problem because you need a mask for two places in the game(not only one as you showed us)!But anyway great job. Wink
Quote from ZeRo:

Yeah I've checked this and it does open a bit indeed but not enough to get through the door. I also once had a chair stuck in the middle of 2 doors so that they opened up a bit, and then a brick was stuck on the left side of the door which also pushed the door some more to the right (And then the door was like bouncing) Smiley But the doors always get pushed back to their closed position (Or they try to at least...).
Doesn't seem possible to get it done far enough to get through it. Maybe only if you can get a long plank in a gap in the door and then push the plank so it opens the door enough and then VERY quickly get through it before it closes, but I actually doubt it's possible to get it done... Though I haven't tried using a plank yet (There wasn't any plank near those double doors I've checked so far).

Nice video (A bit overpeaked sound though ;)). Earlier I also tried the item flying and it does work indeed, but only if you move forwards. I first tried it when standing still to fly up with the item but that didn't work, you really need to move forwards. The item flying indeed creates some nice shortcuts (And I was aware of using the little box to click on the level transition at the end of the sewers, you can also jump on the side of the tunnel and then jump and click on the level transition which I think is a little bit faster since you can ditch the little box and just run/jump to the end).
I tried the Clean Syringe thing previously myself like that, but never got it to work unless I was close to the beams and jumped and then used the Clean Syringe on the body. I shall check it a bit closer.
I knew about the shortcuts in the HiveMind Challanges (Yes "Challanges"... I guess it's a typo ;)). They can be performed a bit better though at least Challange 2 can, I'm not sure if my way in Challange 3 would be faster.

Igyanata, do you have any more tricks to add? Smiley
Never any doubt!
Not actually.I have a few ideas but nothing special for now.Well I haven`t played Panumbra about a week so I will see when I does!
Speed is everything!
Quote from Igyanata:

That's no problem! Wink You don't need the gas mask two times. To change the pipe you can easily throw a stone at it and then rush into the gas cloud and put the other pipe piece into it and then it works, I could also include it into the video but for me that way was normal...  Grin
BTW: By doing exactly that I died in my SS attemt! Angry

Hehe, I also came so far, but sometime the two doors opened nearly enough but I couldn't move anymore! Grin
But also if it works, it would be very hard to practice...

Thanks, I know, the sound sucks, in my windows sound options the recording sound was too loud. But to show you the tricks it's enough... Grin
And BTW: If you wonder about any laggs, I have recordet the video(s) at my laptop which is not so good.

Maybe I will try to find some more tricks later, but for now it's enough... Smiley

Yeah, I shall start working on the HTML page with my own tricks and stuff added to it. Otherwise you'll maybe start searching and pointing out tricks I already know Wink

By the way, about the second gas place, you can also throw the pipe against the pipe to break it and then pick up the pipe and put it in there Smiley (Though maybe less reliable for a Single-Segment.)

Yeah, but in a SS it's really hard to hit the pipe at the right place, so it would be better to throw a stone first as wasting the pipe and die... Grin

EDIT: I'm also looking for tricks at youtube and some other pages, but until now there's just crap... Lips Sealed

It can take a little while though... I just did the first 2 short levels (The starting room and Ventilation Shafts). I'm basically trying to document everything Smiley

Maybe I should put it online already so you guys can check it out and maybe comment on it (Possibly add/correct stuff)?

Alright, it's in my signature (Igyanata, you could also put a link to it in your first post). Of course the page is a Work-In-Progress so you'll notice a few to-do kind of things Smiley
