Finished! Easy difficulty, 5 segments, 21:34. Encoding now, will submit runs of all the Penumbra games soon.

So the final times are
Overture: ~20:30 (has no ingame timer)
Black Plague: 21:34
Requiem: 21:58
Some nice wall clip skips Smiley It's funny how all Penumbra runs are of pretty much the same length.

I think you should've used the save thing next to the computer in the server area instead of the one in the side room (The plastic head area), but perhaps you did that because of the 2 clip skips?
^Correct, on both regards. I would have been slightly more optimal to save next to the computer but I much rather grind the clips when I don't have to walk all the way from there.

Runs have now been submitted, one noteworthy change that happened in Overture is that instead of splitting the first segment in two, I split it in three.
Never any doubt!
You did amazing job here. I love your run and I hope it gets submitted. I hope you don't mind but I have edited my original post in this topic with information about your run. Smiley
No video but there's some new stuff.

1. You can clip into the room with the saw and save maybe 3 seconds. You still have to wait for Clarence to shut up because if you pick up the saw before that, the doors in the area will remain locked until his done with ALL of his dialogue. Clipping out and being ready at the gas area could still save a bit of time that way.

2. Unlike I previously thought, in the last part of the game it is possible to use a shelf to clip to the computer room and skip some of the dialogue. You just have to allow the first bit of dialogue to play, then you can skip the second and the third bits and finish the game.

Hi, I've been lurking for a bit so I figured it was time to contribute Cheesy

If you clip into the room with the saw early enough the alien thing will break down the door before Clarence stops talking. Alternatively you can use a milk jug in one of the corners to get out of the room quicker allowing you to get to the doors before the gas before Clarence is done talking.

Also, in the room with the barrel you need to light on fire you can use one of the pillars to clip through the wall and skip that part and just go unlock the door and grab the flashlight, it saves about 30 seconds if done quickly. I have a segmented run that's 20m 42s
Saw room: This one I already knew of, it saves barely any time if at all because if you pick up the saw early you'll have to wait for the second set of dialogue to pass.

Messhall: Tried it and it seems very simple, props for finding this! Been wanting to skip something in here and the tricks I had previously just are not doable.

I think sub 20 is possible with the new messhall and ending routes. I remember have a sub 21 game time on an RTA that had a rest in it and 21:09 in a run with no resets.
Lo1ts, I just watched your run from the Easter marathon. Didn't expect to have much to comment on but I actually noticed a bunch of things, some good and others not so much. Very small things poorly formatted but whatever.

- Getting blood from the dead scientist: I think it's a lot easier to make the jump over the lasers if you have some speed instead of just jumping from top of him.
- Mess hall: I was using the other pillar to do the clip. Not sure which is more consistent, but both work.
- Door before Clarence shows up and jump in the worm room were new to me. Useless, but interesting regardless.
- Why not clip into the saw room? It's an easy clip, you don't necessarily have to clip out.
- Computer room: You can use the keyboard when transfering programs? That makes things easier.
- Your angle with the chair clip was generally too wide.
- Does going right whe Clarence make the door disappear save time? Seemed faster than going left.
- Really good flying in the cave. Did you stand up at some point in the beginning?
- In chemical laboratory there is another way to do the second clip that is very low risk, different from the one I used in the segmented run.
- After chemlab you're supposed to go in the other direction. This was the biggest mistake in the segmented run that costs about 5 seconds.
- You can skip the first hivemind challenge by using the brick to fly over the door. You still need to give the pipe so the dialogue doesn't interrupt you.
- Cool back up strat for the second challenge.
- No skip to the final computer Sad
Triple post but I don't care, holy hell I just got a great run.

19:08 in game time, single segment.
Gets the cake.
Wow. Simply amazing run dude, that was pretty mind-blowing.
Thanks Z1m. 19:08 on Wednesday was "f******* amazing", 18:46 on Thursday was "pretty good". Going for sub 18:30.

Watching from the edge of my seat for that sub 18:30. If I ever get time to watch while you're streaming I'll come watch for once =P
No 18:30 yet but a new computer room route:

Hey there, figured I'd make a post here, I started running this game after seeing Kotti's runs. I've managed to improve my run times as far as to achieve a sub-18 minute run.

The run was pretty much perfect and would have been SS if it weren't for the Chemical Lab first clip (which as Kotti will vouch for me has no rhyme or reason to it) so I immediately reloaded and used a safer, more reliable clip to get past the locked door; at the cost of taking about 7-8 seconds to walk around the corridor, flick the switch and make it into the next room.

It was my quickest (and so far only sub-18) run was 17:48, which like I said before was in two segments which WOULD have been SS if it weren't for the Chemlab clip. The stats screen can be seen HERE! I hope to record a run like this for you guys, but my PC isn't exactly the best (maybe some more RAM would help), if anyone's skeptical you can take a look at my 19:51 run HERE (albeit it rendered out seriously badly, my bad)
That time sounds really good. Did you choose any other routes or did you have immense luck in some parts ? Because that's quite some timesaving.  Hopefully you will be able to record such a run in the future.

Immense luck I'd say, it's pretty much just the same as Kotti's clips, as well as refining the Comp Room clip that Kotti discovered, I also found another to skip Clarence making the Library door disappear, but I can't seem to get it quickly enough to take less time than it saves.

Sorry to keep y'all waiting (if anyone actually WAS waiting that is) but I've recorded a pretty good run just now and I'm just passing the recordings through Yua at the moment (once again, Chemlab's responsible for the run not being truly single segment; plus I had to redo the final hivemind challenge since the final clip didn't want to cooperate).

But it's pretty good; 28 seconds ahead of Kotti's fastest run and yet it wasn't even the fastest one I did tonight. Like my last one it'll only be in 640x360 since that's the only bearable dimensions my PC can record with; I'm sure if I had some free time with a better machine I could get something fierce done.

Also in this run I used a homegrown mod with the maps to change their properties to create a pseudo-fullbright experience. I originally could do this by just turning the shaders option down to it's very lowest setting but I found it would cause all the walls to turn black sooner or later during the game (usually either at the start or once you make it to the residential corridors). So I brought on the effect without the drawbacks. I don't know if this is a problem on my end or if this happens on ALL systems when shaders are set to very low but I hope you can forgive me for using this for this run, if it pleases y'all I can play without it for any runs in the future.

Also if anyone feels like racing, let me know if you're down for that!

Hey Mooo.

I watched your run and was really impressed. You plan using more segments on your next attempts or try to get back to SS ?
In addition, the quality looks surprisingly fine to me, so does your fullbright-mod.

Hope to see some more attempts soon Wink

Check out deez splits!

Although I don't really like playing to splits, if I want to do a segmented run like my old 19:51 run I'll just go through each section until I feel it's good enough.

Also if you're reading this, be very prepared for a new run. I bought a license for Dxtory so I'm now able to record at 60fps.
TEH URN COMETH, 17 MINS 46 SECS!
Alright, i haven't posted in awhile but i've got some stuff to show off, the clip for getting back from the infirmary is not nearly as hard as i thought it was. It's even viable in single segment now, you just need to get a broken piece of concrete from the locker room and get it under the door (which you can do just by jumping on it and pulling it to the other side) http://www.twitch.tv/lo1ts/c/2540908 Heres a video of it. (it's really not that hard, even if it takes a few tries it still skips the entire computer room)

Also, lets talk about getting a new run for SDA, Segmented with quite a few segments (a segment for most rooms with an auto-save, some exceptions of course), Along with that, is it possible to share save files or is this something that would need to be done by one person?

So if you'd like to contribute any glitches/routes thats you wouldnt try in single segment/are super hard/you've only gotten once (Nothing for the computer room obviously, we won't be going in there for this run). I want this run to show how broken the game is and show how far we've come since the last run was submitted.

Alright, lets tear this game a new one!
Been too long since I last posted here. First off, congrats to Mooo and Purple Link, I know you've been getting some very good times even if I haven't actually seen the runs. And Lo1ts, great work finding a way to do the computer room skip consistently.

I'd be down for a run like this and am 99% sure that sharing save files is not a problem at all, they're all saved to documents/penumbra/saves. What I think is a problem is crap like this. I bet there's a bunch of rooms where you can clip/boost yourself straight to the load zone or close to it but actually making something like that happen might only be possible in theory.

Here's just a quick comparison video to show off the new route (from Residential Corridors to the Library), the clip took about 30 seconds in total to set up so there's more of a difference than you can see.

During Clarence's introduction scene, bring a barrel from A to B and after getting both the hand and the head clip through to avoid the trigger (red line) that makes the door disappear. I didn't have a good save for testing this so I but it did work from the other side and after getting to the door I backed away from it to the direction the new route uses to find the trigger. If the trigger is activated earlier when approached from the proper direction this obviously doesn't work. But if the trigger works like I believe it does, this might even be viable in RTA.

EDIT:
Haven't looked into it yet but I bet my ass you can do the same thing after chemlab. Yep, and there's a box right there next to the door that would normally be locked during the "chase" scene. Not only does it skip the trigger, it also skips running around the area. You just got to move the black box to the right side of the door, face into the right direction and mash LMB as you clip, that way you can just enter the room before hitting the trigger that makes the door disappear. The infected that spawns near the chemlab isn't a problem either, as long as you don't literally bumb into him he won't start following you.
