wow, i already did 30 mins of my run and i'm 3 mins faster than my 5:04 run o_0 and i dont think anybody would download a 100% pm64 run because it's SOOOO long =O

my first improvement is of course, not being touched by any ennemy. and the strategies for battles are REALLY important, i improved every battles for now... so yeah, if i continue like this, my run will be like 4:30 o_0

What are your plans for the battles? I assume you are picking up the POW Block and Fire Flower from Pleasant Path. If you take the Fright Jar (I think there is one somewhere in Prelude/Chapter 1), it works better on Koopas than Bob-ombs.

Also, in case you didn't know, POW Blocks do attack flying enemies (probably a programming laziness to not give multi-hit items restrictions). However, since it only hits once, it will only drop Paratroopas, and not flip them over as well.

Against the second required Koopa battle (where you get the switch to lower the stairs), first strike from afar with Kooper to get to the switch faster after battle.

Against the Bill Blasters, I don't think it's worth it to use a battle item. Simply First Strike with Bombette, use a Power Jump/Bomb combo the first round, and finish off with a Hammer/Body Slam the second round. Or, you could let the Bullet Bill simply hit Mario -- is it faster?

The Trojan Koopa/Koopa Bros. battle should be four rounds, provided you choose FP for your earlier level up:
1: Power Jump + Bomb
2: Power Jump + switch to Kooper
3: Shell Toss, then untimed jump
4: Fire Flower + Power Shell

Instead of competing with another runner, why not try a different run? Single segment might be a bit much, but there is min% and 100% (although, since Chuck Quizmo alone adds at least an hour, it may not be possible).

Nope, there are 4 badges available after chapter 1: Speedy Spin, First Attack, Multibounce, and D-Down Pound. If you're unlucky, Speedy Spin won't be available. This actually happened in the Wak's run. I'm not sure if it is random (simply restart the segment), or if it is fixed from the start. It definitely is possible for Speedy Spin to be there right off, though.

To "defeat" the fire bars, stay in their attack radius and continually jump over them without getting hit. They start spinning faster and faster, and after the ninth or tenth jump, they flicker away and give you 10 coins. You need to leave the fortress to restock their coins, and if you get hit, you must start jumping again. I know that this information is somewhere in the game.... And yes, the fire bars in the volcano can be defeated the same way.

He does have a pattern bulblax.
Using the underground tunnels, you could get the star pieces in under an hour.
Oh, and wak, I was really hoping you didn't....

Tried it, it doesn't work, despite what gamefaqs guides say. You can't believe them for everything.

Well, Not exactly a pattern, but he won't appear inthe same place 3 times in a row, and yes, using the underground tunnels would be very difficult to sub 1 hour all 64 but it IS possible.

And the only reason i asked philippe if he had a gamefaqs account is because i recently submitted a speed guide there,I don't like gamefaqs at all everybody there is so immature.

I really hope he finishes soon bcuz i refuse to start until i get a DVD recorder.
I will practice until then., And videos will help greatly.

I don't know my goal yet but i can tell you i have beaten the koopa bros. in slightly under 30 minutes.

did you say that you beated prologue AND chapter 1 in under 35 mins? or only chapter 1? because both prologue and C1 in 30 mins is like... impossible.

Yes, well,close ... Allthe way to the save after koopa bros.
in the cutscene in 33 minutes (Just now looked at game timer to make sure)
It wasn't for a full run though, so i only had power jump, didn't do the coin route, nothing much, worthless really....

and yeah, i just got the point about you. since the beginning of your topic, you talk like if you were the paper mario god (got 5:10 SS) i can assure you that 90% of the "improvements" you thought weren't exactly improvements. like the spin attack is quickier without jumping, or when i take a look on your route for 50 coins...

i can say that you couldn't never beat my slow PM64 run even if you were cheating, because of your lack of strategies (or brain?) and you lie when you say that you got 5:10 SS

it's not a decent speedrun since half of the parts have been done... once.

for now, i'm doing the exact same number of parts, but they will be put together in chapters this time. this will be a lot better. also, i restart every parts if i ever get hit by an ennemy.

and now i've done 20 parts, and 19 parts are FASTER than my previous run (part of the second dungeon in dry dry desert was 16 secs faster than my actual part now... ) but i managed to save 20 seconds against tukantroopa. so overall, i'm still saving a couple of seconds in this dungeon.

overall, this gonna be a much much better run, i can't wait to restart the yoshis part where i lost about 2 mins in a part of 5 mins...

Well, that's not bad. But my main concerns are about your route planning and battle strategy... that segment is just running around. You don't seem to be putting any more effort into planning this than you did for your first run.

Whoa, with that many segments I wouldn't be surprised if a SS run would be faster...

I don't have anything against you Wak, just what you said in that post annoyed me a bit.
