I think this new patch has also made PC times a bit more consistent, me and Sovlo both got the exact same plane and final boss luck and this happened: http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/684840005564341459/4DEDDE866C8ECBEBF3BA92BEBD2C3D391BFF719A/
For Fun! For GLORY!!
Just finished playing through with the new Quick CG. And I love it! It makes the game smoother and more fluid, without having to stop in several places. Plus on Easy I can keep a few magic coins going longer since cutscenes don't stop. There are still spots where you'll need to Start+A to skip parts, but it's not that bad. I think you may need to do more research into it Mauste. Since now we can get more out of coins on Easy, you should compare again to see if Easy and Extreme are different again.

God damn it!

Though, honestly, I do not think the increased duration makes up for the ~50 second difference. It probably shaves 10-20 seconds at most.
I couldn't help but reading everybody's thoughts and opinions on this new patch. I can understand where Tiimber is coming from in that he worked very hard to achieve his supreme time pre-patch that I likely wouldn't have beaten. However, I agree with the notion that games evolve and new things are discovered and added that may affect speed runs. For example, Ducktales Remastered was obviously not originally intended to use the mine and moon skips for speed runs. I'm sure the people who earned their top spots pre-glitch discovery were probably pretty ticked off that potentially gamers with less skill passed their times due to the vast amount of time those skips save. In other words, speed runs without using the glitches would be separated as well. Was that totally fair to really skilled gamers that could run the game to perfection but couldn't master the mine glitch? Furthermore, you could look at this patch as evolution just like you would with sports. Athletes in the old days didn't have as good training and technology as modern athletes. Likewise, modern tennis players have access to modern rackets that allow them to play better. In other words, just like an athlete would, I used the patch as another opportunity and succeeded. Either way Tiimber, you are #1 on easy, I am number #1 on easy (cinema mode), and Capn Drake is #1 on the PC. All three of us should be proud of our accomplishments. Let's leave it at that. Also regarding the patch, not much actual gameplay is taken out other than the beagles and switches in the first level. Like Radman mentioned, the invincible coins last longer and the few scenes that remain have minimal talking. So overall, I think the patch should help speed runners, especially on extreme. Just my two cents. Last thoughts though, the patch hasn’t fixed all the crashes as the game has still sometimes crashed after beating Transylvania.

It hasn't fixed all of the errors, no doubt. But it helps for a multitude of reasons, including QCS, Hard Pogo, less crashes, and other reasons. This is a "revival" of sorts for the game in more ways than one.
A patch can come anytime, and just invalidate all work. Maybe v1.2.0 will contain a new mode: Ridiculous - one hit kills you. This will replace Extreme, and all records will be for nothing. Or maybe Super Easy - you are indestructible. Not because of someone else finding a trick or actually being better (those I can buy) - but due to the developers deciding the game needs a new mode.

With that said; I won't respond to anything more about the new modes. I accept them, and will not continue participating. I wish you all luck, though.

Just like a new glitch or a strategy can be found at any time, which has the same result. For example I do not see you saying that the Mine's glitch and the Moon glitch should be in their own categories.
My point is that I do not understand how you can accept one, but not the other, when the results for both of them are the same.

Also, I would like to point out that the developers didn't simply decide the game needs a new mode. A very large proportion of the community, especially we speedrunners, actively requested for them to remove the cutscenes or to give us an option to disable them, since they were more or less useless after the first playthrough and only in the way. Now that there is such an option, I can't think of any reason to run the game with the cutscenes, since the QCM makes the speedrunning more enjoyable, more consistent, and on top of that, faster. Not to mention the Quick Cinema Mode is not actually a new mode despite its name. It is an option just like Easy Pogo/Hard Pogo or original music/8-bit music.

Really? Come on now, this isn't the difficulty of AVGN Adventures or IWTBTB/IWTBTG. Unless more people complain about the game needing a new difficulty, which I don't see happening ever, then they will update it with such and if it's faster, we'll adopt it. Does it suck that the work is now invalidated? Yeah, but at the time it wasn't a waste and no one knew a patch was incoming. I think we've been complaining about the cinematics, either on here or silently, and this helps us out a lot. I complained about us moving to Extreme only, since it is faster, but I had to accept it or drop out.

I temporarily dropped out not because of the difficulty Extreme brings, but because of the faulty Hard Pogo pre-patch. Now that Hard Pogo is more reliable, I'll give this game another 1,000 runs or 10. On top of all that, this new patch ultimately helps bring in more competition as opposed to shunning them away, I believe.

Bah, who am I trying to fool?

I have made my first and second real run through. IGT is now 6s behind Guru, with 3 bat patterns. I'll aim to cut off another 40s of that time, so IGT = 32:08 and RTA = 36:16

Edit: Sorry for being such a bitch about this. I still don't like this, but I don't have to be so bitchy about it. I guess my biggest sadness is due to the run I actually got on the previous mode, which is a quite amazing run. I really think the new mode means that one minute can be shaved off from the previous times.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
That should be a positive for you. Better times should always be accepted. :3
No improvements for me today (Although Sovlo did improve) but Austin Ivansmith did just stop by my channel, which was pretty awesome!

Yeah Austin's a good guy.  He's very active in following up on WF games, especially those on which he's been a director.
I know that Tiimber will likely reclaim the top spot in a matter of time. Regardless, I accomplished my goal of getting to the number 1 spot, even if only briefly. Depends how much homework I have and what not that will determine how often I will try to better my time. Just curious though, anybody know what the World record is on each platform without the glitches and cinema mode?
Visually Appealing
Just completed my first run with Quick Cinema. Obviously I crushed my old time. 37:59 is my PB now, 34:23 IGT.
Hmm, two more great runs getting ruined by crashing after Mavica at Transsylvania. Sad
For Fun! For GLORY!!
I have never crashed yet. I haven't started real runs for Extreme, still just ILs. Might do runs tomorrow.
Now it happened again. Third time in a row it crashed at that point. Will do that level first from now on.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
I do it first on Extreme anyway since my route gets the hearts first. Which means I play both my favorite and least favorite levels back to back. X3
Oh, hope you have more luck than me. Btw, the day ended with my battery running out, why didn't I see it flashing?
For Fun! For GLORY!!
That's why I always play with my Pro controller plugged into my Wii U. Tongue
Well, all the rest of you speed runners can eat your hearts out and speed run whilst I wait to replace my broken Wii U charger for the next couple of weeks. Not sure if it was because of my cats or if it was just bent wrongly somehow.Anything new regarding the success of ducktales speed runs? Regarding speed runs, I can relate because I had a good run ruined by the crash post beating Translyvania myself several days ago. Maybe I will have to return to my good old PS2 or nintendo for some classic goodness.

I'll be in a lot of practices before I actually attempt solid runs. AKA: I need to beat the game on Extreme still because I are terribad at videro james.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
I'm still doing ILs too, because mainly Amazon as a whole, and the mines skip on my Gamepad rather then TV. I haven't done Mt Vesuvius on Extreme much, but I don't see that level as a threat. I only ever get hit twice while going to the minecart where I can heal. But still my health is my top priority before I do runs.

I'm finally back on the #1 spot, but not with much. I reset all my splits, so I had no idea how I was doing during the run. Think my Mine Skip was quite bad, and Moon stage lost me maybe 5s in addition to that. I currently have 32:41 IGT (1s to spare), which translates to 36:46 in RTA.

It was overall a bit shaky run, I have a bit soreness in my muscles after an activity at my job yesterday, and my mind is really tired at the moment (probably due to how I felt and me bitching earlier in this thread). I will continue playing a lot this weekend, and I expect me to beat the time at least once more.

Edit: In general I'm a bit surprised how good Gurus time was - and I might have overestimated my ability to improve a bit, so my new goal is now 32:17 IGT / 36:25 RTA. My previous PB was really optimal playwise, just had bad luck with Dracula Bats.
I managed to improve the run by another 9s, the run itself had some mistakes in it, quite bad luck on the plane and one missed quick cycle at the Moon Boss among others - the big difference was that I finally got one bat pattern. The RTA is 36:37 and IGT 32:32. Will aim for 10-12s improvements over the next period of time - unfortunately a lot depends on luck on Dracula from here on. If I feel I can't improve this run, I'll probably post the video at some time.
