I have been on hiatus for now. Had some bad twists in my leg that hurt so ducking much. Been trying to rebudget after some hospital visits, and a whole slew of other personal stuff. So annoying.
There was a patch announced today! I downloaded a ~120mb patch on Steam ~10 minutes ago.
Here are the changes:

Thank you for all your patience everyone. The patch is almost approved through all first party certifications and once that's one, we'll release them all at the same time, I'll let you know when that happens. Here's a condensed list of the changes you should see.
-Pogo fix- Some users reported that the pogo was unreliable. Tweaking the window at which the game looks for the pogo input seems to have fixed the issue. It seems that it was too short and that some users set ups were dropping input frames
-Flashing characters- Got rid of the flashing characters.
-Wii U crashing on the leaderboards
-Duckworth sometimes fails to lower down the safe.
-The title crashes to a black screen when skipping the pre-race cinematic of Magica and Glomgold.
-In certain conditions the title would fail to respawn correctly after a failed attempt for the race to the dime.
We've also addressed several stability and crash issues, but the above were the most reported. If you have an issue you don't see, please check the patch if it's still there when the patch comes out.
We also added the below item due to a large request:
Quick Cinema mode- This mode will skip most of the cutscenes when activated. The option will show up if you have at least one playthrough completed, even it if was pre-patch. It's not a true speedrun option like we wanted to, butsome areas, like removing the random number events proved to be risky.
Thanks again for all of your support and we hope the fixes will improve your experience with DuckTales.
Too bad they could not change the RNG-elements But on the other hand, Quick Cinema mode sounds interesting!
Curious to see how new patch is. Don't know if it is me but it feels like the game runs a lot faster now. Most cinematics are gone which leads to a really smooth replay even when not speedrunning. Great change :).
It skips every single cutscene that isn't a trigger for something, some of them won't even start. The Beagle Boys and nephews in the Money Bin don't even appear, the switches just get insta-pressed when they come on-screen, for example.
I'll have to check out the changes later. It's good to see that they were able to remove so many cutscenes without it totally breaking the game. That can't have been an easy task.
I only got to play a little bit of the patched version today. Mostly cause I wanted to see if they fixed the crash after the Himilayas boss. They didn't. But even so, this option is going to cut off a lot of time.
Just an educated guess, because I wasn't aware of the crash when I was still working for WF, but I would wager that the reason for the Himalayas boss crash is because it's the only cutscene that ends with the level ending. All other bosses require you to pick up the treasure if you skip the cutscene. I don't know how the guy in charge of that scene set it up, but it's probably getting stuff out of order or something.
Played around with the new patch earlier and got a 39:12 RTA, 34:50 in-game on Wii U. It seems like the biggest time savers are in Money Bin because the beagle boys don't even spawn and in the Amazon because there's no cutscenes for the coins. I also noticed that they got rid of the money tally screen after the Money Bin, but that is only a minor annoyance since you'll either get nothing or the one $50k diamond under the invincibility coin.

Hmm... I don't think the money talley happened prior to this patch either.
Here's my take: Quick Cinematics should be a different category.
The fact that having it set to "On" has the game play out different than it would "Off" is justification enough IMO. I'm sure it's definitely the faster of the two options, but skipping over entire actions based on that one toggle alone is :S

And the game still locks up on Wii U :/
It should probably be considered as 'New Game +' since it's only active after you completed the game.
I just tested the patch for the first time, and frankly hated it. I just thought you'd not have to make quick cutscene skip - not that it takes away actual gameplay.
I agree this should be a different category, and I will not play in this mode myself.
Worst thing in my mind is that this makes the leaderboards even more misleading. Oh, well. I will still play with having to skip cutscenes, it feels so weird with switches being switched without reason.
On another note, Extreme is coming along really bad for me. I might not be cut out for it. I'll give it some more tries, otherwise I'll leave it to the professionals. Might change aim to cut off some time on Easy Mode instead (with manual cinematic skip).
This patch is amazing. Hard Pogo feels a LOT more fluid, reliable, and a lot less of a chore. I'll pick this game up again since Extreme isn't as daunting now as it was with the dumb Hard Pogo not registering more than half of my inputs.
As far as Quick Cinematics go, I don't think it should be a separate category mainly because why would you want to waste time pressing start and waiting for the cutscene to skip, opposed to having the cutscene not there altogether? Sure, if it's something like "NG" vs. "NG+" then it is what it is, but for Extreme I feel that it's highly unnecessary to not have Quick Cinematics.
I won't know myself until I start running again, and since my leg is actually feeling slightly better, and praying my stream software works this time. I'll be doing some tomorrow.
Cyrax: What I feel about this is probably affected by the sudden gamechanger this have been. I've played this game so fu**ing much, to get the time that was over 30s better than second best. Suddenly, a patch comes taking away minutes of time from the game, not only by removing the monotone task of pressing "start plus A" - but also remove actual gameplay.
If this patch would apply to another game, let's take Zelda: the Wind Waker. In my eyes this patch is sort of like removing all cutscenes and then also the first part of Outset Island (saving Tetra from the Bird). This would mean all World Records becomes totally invalid over night.
I would understand if this will be required in Extreme, though (even if I don't like it for the same reason) - because Extreme is already a NG+ mode, just like this, while Easy is not.
But on the other side, I don't see Easy mode fitting into any category on SDA anyways, so that one is more casual speedrunning, I'd guess?! It doesn't fit as any% or 100% (Extreme takes both of these) - and I guess Extreme would also take up the low% category, as neither difficulty collects treasures or extra heart containers?
My 2 cents about categories: Quick Cinematics should Not be seperate from 'normal mode'. I know it bites for those who put a ton of effort into the pre-patch runs, but such is life. - Quick cinematic mode brings nothing new to the gameplay - It's faster - It's superior There is literally no point in running the game with the cutscenes enabled any longer. I'm sure some people will disagree because they are protective over their old times, but in a technical standpoint you should move on and get some awesome times in the new mode!
I won't protest if this is a decision of the community, but I won't participate in this game anymore if that's the case (this not being it's own category).
I feel it's wrong that the developers could potentially completely destroy the competition in a snap. Who knows what version 1.2.0 will contain? Skip bosses? Skip levels? Skip escape scene? That would also make the game quicker, thus also be the new category for all runners.
I love the game still, but doubt I will play it again for speedrunning purposes. I will most likely still hang here, and cheer you guys on to lower the times. You guys are awesome!
Well, that's the problem with running newly released games. Games evolve, strats evolve, people evolve. What if someone would find a new skip, say 'unlock the hymalaya plane cutscene early' - that wouldn't be a new category either. Yet everyone would have to adjust to this new strat. I don't see why the patch would be any different than just that.
Yeah, I guess you're right. But there are situations these things aren't accepted as "best". I'm thinking of GTA V, where you can skip all missions. Or is that because of how much it affects gameplay?
I think it tends to be more gameplay related, if I were to use Kirby Adventure as an example. The "glitchless%" run quickly became glitched when there was a clip discovered that made running a small handful (like 3-4 stages) faster. The community itself decided to keep the clip in any% no ufo. The UFO glitch is treated as an entirely separate category because it dramatically changes not only the speed, but how each and every stage is run.
Whoa. I leave for one night and the runners are all in a tizzy about this patch. I haven't even played yet under the new fix, so I won't know what to expect, so I'll let you know later today when I stream what I think, It'll be around 3 PM EST.
I don't understand why everyone is so angry about this patch. It's faster of course, but it really doesn't affect gameplay outside of the Money Bin. Even then, it only cuts out the beagle boy switches which ends up saving like 10-15 seconds. If anything, it makes the game more consistent because now we don't have to worry about some of the crashes from skipping cutscenes.

These two guys stole the words from my mouth. The QCM should not be in a separate category, since there is no reason to run the game without it. The QCM is simply superior in every way.
