For Fun! For GLORY!!
Yeah Big Time may throw faster, but you still gotta wait for the moment that he moves, or for the safe to come down.
I just wanted to report that I solidified my place as 2nd on the Wii U leader boards with an in-game time of 34:41. Unfortunately, people only care about first place and leave me with no praise. In any case,  I got three beagles on the plane, got munched on by a plant, had several bumps in the Amazon, and even botched the mirror jump in Transylvania. My mine glitch was pretty solid, but definitely could've been better. I also got bad luck on the Yeti. Dracula duck spawned two fangs( two bites and three bites respectively), two bats, and two dragons. I think I also messed up when running with an invincible. Could somebody tell me what a standard great mine glitch would be( getting rid of the blocks and going through the ground until you drop). I have gotten around 39 seconds total before. Is that too slow or about standard?

Every speedrunner is welcome and as long as you improve your personal best, you'll get praises Smiley
Personally I can't compare my own runs to other users' ingame times, so I don't really comment on them.

As for the Mine glitch, this is my understanding:
~15 seconds = amazing!
~20-25 seconds = still good!
25-30 seconds = decent...
35+ seconds = disappointing

so, 39 seconds does seem quite slow for me and I would say the average is closer to 25-30 seconds. I am sure you could get really close to 34 with a bit better luck Smiley

@Mauste: when you mention those times, does that include climbing down and up the chain and pogoing through the ground and then dropping? Because that seems unlikely to make the blocks dissappear and do that in 15 seconds. Problems that halt me with finishing a run: executing the laser diagonal jump in the money bin, mine glitch, bad plane luck, two hammers randomly hit me( money bin), plants in the amazon and the African Mines, etc. Bottom-line, it is very difficult to finish an excellent run when you factor in the random boss luck, plane luck, mine glitch, and all the other various things to execute. What is your best RTA and In-Game times?

The seconds mentioned is for most likely the time from when you are about to actually start despawning the blocks until the despawn is done.

I also have to agree with the rest of the guys here, Real-Time is the way to go, even on a platform with consistent speed amongst machines. Especially since Extreme and Easy results are mixed on the leaderboards.

If you are fighting for the Real-Time record on the Wii U on Easy difficulty, the quickest confirmed run should be my 37:52 linked a couple of days ago. I have one ~4 seconds quicker, but that didn't record in full.

On a different note, I'm recovering from my sickness that have blocked me from gaming for quite a while now, will perhaps be back to gaming in a day or two. Hopefully I can grab a few more Easy-records in the next week or two, before seeing if I'm good enough for Extreme.
Hello.

I was the guy in 2nd for a while on the U. Funny enough it was the first and only run I did after a week break and I haven't played since. I ran a simple timer and it was about 1 minute less than my previous PB, but was only 17 or 18 seconds faster IGT and I have no idea why. I got the boulder jump in 5 jumps on the four block method (easily <15 sec and probably the best I've ever done it), had two extra beagle boys on the plane (good), and the rest of the run was reasonably well done. I got a quick rat kill, low mirror spawns for Magica, and had one quick hit on the final boss and did the quick pogo. I felt like I could have shaved off 20 seconds max, so I was a little bummed that I was still so far off pace with 34:59 I think it is.

The main reason I stopped running DT is because this game locks up on me so much. I would say 3/5 runs, easily. I usually play Transylvania last and when I beat Magica my tablet goes to the home screen and I can't get out of it unless I turn off the console. There seems to be no rhyme or reason, but it has ended some very, very good runs. I've frozen on the ghost beagle boys, Bubba, and obviously the Yeti part use to get me. Another annoying one is when the safe doesn't spawn in the first level. With all these crashes (especially the Magica one since it's so common and happens so late in the run) it becomes too frustrating. I doubt they'll patch it, so I don't see myself putting any more time in. Too bad because I was having a lot of fun running it for a bit. It's a excellent length of time for a run.

Big fan of SDA and I'll be keeping an eye on this one even if I don't run this. Good luck to everyone. Really enjoying the SGDQ stuff on YT!

I have two places where I watch the timer, the first one is after hitting the snail in the glitch-platform and the second one is when I am falling down, getting ready to climb back up. So the times include dropping down until the screen goes black. These times are my own "standards" and I usually aim to that 20-25 second range. If I'm perfectly honest, I usually do a reset if I go over that.

I finished a casual run today on extreme with safety strategies (I collected both heart containers). I didn't do any resets, even though I was really tempted several times.
The RTA for that run was 36:35 and my IGT didn't improve from 35:39. My best RTA is 34:57, but that was made when my game was running faster by default (since then, I have f igured out how to slow down my game to the "normal speed").

I am pretty sure that the hammers in Money Bin are not RNG-related. I have often gotten exactly the same Hammers even 5 times in a row, so I honestly think the way they hit is based on your performance in the stage (Meaning if you always reach the hammers in "x amount of time", they will always align perfectly for you. If you reach them in "y amount of time", they will be in a different position).

The diagonal jump in the Moneybin stage causes some problems for me too, but I am not that bothered by it, because it's the first stage (quick enough to do a reset). For the plants, you just need to practise and find a good position to jump from. They used to cause me problems as well, but nowadays I don't have any.

In my opinion the only boss that can truly ruin the run is Count Dracula Duck. The others add only a couple of seconds if you have bad luck with them.

@&.NayNay
Yeah indeed. If the game was longer, I wouldn't be as eager to run it either. That 30-40 minute window is perfect in my opinion Smiley

Thats still an impressive time.
I only care for the top 10 or 20.

Theres a bug in the 360 verison that if you beat the game once only your first playthrough time will be uploaded to the speed run leaderboards.

Once and only once. *dramatic silence*

Has this affected everyone on the 360 version? Also what about the WiiU and PC versions to?

For people who claim that Extreme mode is faster I can say that magica dispel in vulture form her first swoop dive comes out slower than the previous difficulties.

A good speed run note for Magica De Spell boss fight that once you've hit her in vulture form the direction she was facing she will teleport to that direction to cast her 3 way projectile attack.

You can pogo high jump over two of her projectiles so you can slip between the hit boxes on the two anti air projectiles.

I only play extreme mode only for high points so I'm guessing the projectiles move faster in this difficulty.

Hope this helps any speed runnerss shave off a few seconds on their next run.

Duck Tales Remastered is a very easy game even on Extreme mode.

Another thing to note with the difficulty modifier seems to affect how fast you beat the level to also counting how much money you've collected and deducts money if you take damage or die.

For Fun! For GLORY!!
Easy game, perhaps. To do fast is a daunting task.

Its pretty easy.

Remastered is the first Duck Tales game I've played and already got less than 40 minutes on a standard speed run.

I remember doing Megaman 9 in just 33 minutes and its the first megaman game I've even played back in 2009 few weeks after it was released.

Ducktales is soooo much easier than Megaman.

You do not need to do a high pogo to go between the top projectiles. A regular jump will suffice, when timed right.
The projectile speed is the same across all difficulties.

Difficulty modifier is not affected by damage, death or how fast you complete the stage (confirmed on PC and on Wii U). On extreme, it is simply a 1.5x modifier for every treasure you collected. For example every small diamond is worth 3000 instead of 2000, every big diamond is worth 15 000 instead of 10 000, rubies are worth 75 000 instead of 50 000 and hidden treasure is worth 1 500 000 instead of 1 000 000.

The only thing Mega Man and DuckTales have in common is that they are both 2D sidescrollers. The gameplay is very different Smiley

Done another playthrough again and didn't take damage in amazon and transylvania and I got the same money results.
I wish the multipier affects how many times you take damage, time and deaths encourage people to complete each level with a perfect.

True MegaMan and DuckTales have different gameplay styles but these two games were my proper introduction to those games (I watched the ducktales show alot as a kid but I never played the game untill the remake got released) I naturaly got very good at megaman.

For Magica's projectiles: Which method attacking are you more comfortable with, The high pogo jump in or normal well timed jump in?

Btw does anyone know a way to update the speed run leaderboards? because my first blind and test run I spent 2hr:50min jumping everywhere finding everysingle secret all on my own with back tracking to and now the leaderboards doesn't allow me to upload my improved time?

Does deleting save data and re-beat the game fix this problem? does deleting my save data affect my High score leaderboard (5th on total score) (8th on single playthrough score).

The high pogo is easier to do, but regular jump is quicker. It depends on how alert I am during the boss fight Tongue

There is a known issue with xbox360-leaderboards, that it only saves the first playthrough. The developers are aware of it, but patches on consoles take a long time.
I do not know whether deleting save data helps, because I do not play on that platform. I guess you could give it a try and hope for the best Smiley

I have made a post that lists the total money for each stage on the Extreme difficulty. So if you are into getting high scores, you might want to check it out: http://www.capcom-unity.com/ducktales/go/thread/view/144707/30067041/extreme-mode---total-money-and-collectables (if you find more than that, I'd appreciate if you could tell me about it Wink )

Doing more Extreme practice streaming today. Hopefully I get a full run today. Smiley
I started again after being sick four days (although I'm still a bit dizzy in general). The feel in my body suddenly feels totally gone. Everything goes wrong, especially the few times I got to Mine Glitch - that screwed me over totally.

I tries with a better stream layout, but I'm disappointed with two things:

- Framerate is way to slow.
- Timer and video isn't synced.

I'm also irritated with Llanfair on one of my computers - it just refuses to let me enter hotkeys, and clears the settings on every restart. On the other it works almost perfectly.

The plus side with this is that I can stream lower resolution, but still record the full 1080p version at the same time.

Will of course experiment a bit more with all of this, might switch timer (or adjust my own).
For Fun! For GLORY!!
Meh. I know the feel. Just those days when you feel completely bleh. But today I feel peppy. Tongue

I would record too as I stream, but apparently I can't have the same capture up in two places, so if I'm streaming with video, I can't record. What timer do you use? WSplit?
No, I'm using a Mac, so I use CamTwist in combination with GameCapture HD (the video capture application), and FlashMediaLiveEncoder. And also need Llanfair and then reroute my sound to separate channels in order for it to pick up.

Quite a hassle to setup - and probably as big hassle to get it good enough for the future.
For Fun! For GLORY!!
Sounds a little complicated. :\
Okay, first off I just wanted to report that I have been speed running on extreme and I completed a fairly good run. Unfortunately I did not beat my 34:41 time and have no idea how well I did. Are you people sure extreme saves you around 50 seconds. On the run, I did a fairly solid mine glitch, had great plane and yeti luck, good dracula luck, and still did not beat my time. I did choke albeit in a few of the levels, but really to the extent of not even beating my time? How in the heck can a fairly good mine glitch, near perfect plane luck, good yeti luck, and good dracula luck not least surpass my time. All things being equal, shouldn't the 50 seconds extreme supposedly saves, plus near perfect plane luck, solid mine glitch, good dracula duck luck, and good yeti luck be enough to compensate for the hiccups I made in a few of the levels? On another note, what is the quickest path to play in the amazon? I get the first coin on top of the ledge, go underground and get two of the coins and kill myself, then sweep the top level and get the coins, then I climb down the ladder and get the last coin underground and go back up. Is this the best way? In addition, is the best way to use the death skip in Translyvania killing the third ghost beagle and going right and into the pit? Also, does the game record your extreme runs if you've already registered times on easy difficulty. I would appreciate it if the speed running brotherhood can weigh in on all of this. thumbsup

Well how I practice it, nope. Because I grab all the lives and hearts. If I run at AGDQ that's how I have to do it. But I'm not gonna argue with all the study he did on both difficulties.

@Radman: When I completed the run, the only extra things I got was one extra heart in the himalayas and one extra ice cream cone at the end of the Amazon before the boss. I got no extra lives whatsoever. What time do you stream? I would be curious to take a look sometime.

I'm curious to know if you happened to record/capture this as well as use an RTA with it. This could make a bit of difference.
