Willing to teach you the impossible
I have a request for anyone with nice emulator skills. In the second area, there is a lotto game. I would like to know the frame count between every "Cat" and "A" from when the roll starts and between each cycle. I would like to try and get a rhythm or something to be able to get it more consistently. Just a guess from me it will be like 4 frames for something short like that being there are only 4 options.

It appears that the roll rotation is (pseudo-)random.  Every frame it picks from the 4 options, so it is very possible that it will pick the same one multiple times in a row.  When you press the button, it will wait 2 frames before stopping the roll.
Basically, there is a 100% chance of third prize, 25% chance of second prize, and 6.25% chance of first prize.  The numbers will always "match".

I've never played this game before, so I hope this is the lottery you are talking about, the same one that the TAS uses.  The prizes are $1000, $200, and $50, respectively, and it costs $100 to play.

Wow where did I get my numbers from?... But crap... Well I guess given I play perfectly, I have a 6.25% chance of getting a good run... Err I am prolly doing my math wrong as I need 2k just to finish the game. Regardless of the math, I can see me playing this game for a LONG LONG time...

Edit: I am going to set this standard for the final product right now, I will get at least 2k with in 5 rolls. 6 = reset once I start pounding this run out

Edit again: Just did the math, I need 1960 to buy the required items and extra for ammo for fastest strats costing 4 per shot fired... Don't know how much ammo as of yet though. Also, I should actually thank you for your time dunnius. Thanks

Another option is the dice game in area 1, which you can do after the boss.  If you have $250 by the time you reach the dice place, it will only take 3 consecutive wins of 50% chance each, betting everything, to get to $2000, so overall 12.5% chance.  It should be easier, though a tiny bit slower, but it also has less walking if you have to reset.

Even if you have $200, 3 wins is $1600, and you can pick up the difference playing the game, I believe.

Slower?? Are you kidding me?

As far as money management goes, I think I will worry bout it a bit more once I start pushing the run. I need to develop strats for the game still... But hay, does not hurt getting ahead start on things Wink

I mean slower in terms of game time, which is why the TAS doesn't do it. (though it uses 2 players, so it is different)  But I think the better chances makes it worth it.  The annoying part is selecting the bet amount.  It lets you select more than the amount you have, so that could be a little bit annoying.

About how much do you think will you have after the Frisbee Boss?  Tongue

After first boss I should have about 150 or so, I can get more if needed though, there is a $100 drop at the start.

Not a problem Flip, also thanks for the power.
Intruding N313 and F014
How much time does it take to get that $100 drop, and where is it?

Another option is to jump attack the town people and enemies, and then collect the coin drops that fall in front of you.  It seems that there is no time loss doing that, and you should be able to collect enough.
Willing to teach you the impossible
The $100 drop in stage 1 is like 1/4 second out of my way, well there is no detour for it at all, just have to hit a wall. Before you enter the first 2D area, just to the right of that door there is a part of the wall that looks like it is falling apart. attack it and you get $100. In stage 3 just before you enter theme park you can hit the window on the right for a $100 drop as well, that would cost like 1 second at most to pick up. Ya, money is all over the place in this game, and I was also thinking about farming through out as well. But the spawns are, for the most part, random at least in the "over world" ish part of the game. All of the 2D areas are set in stone and I think the bosses are too, but I have not tested that yet. With more practice, I could save my ammo and find ways to use my melee weapon to get threw most if not all areas of the game, but there are some spots I have to use ammo...
Is there a demand for a run of Ganbare Goemon 1-4 (Super Famicom)? I have all of them, and I like the games but never really ran them. I have a feeling they'd be quite boring though--at least 2 and 4, since there's not much to do other than run forward to proceed with the game. I have the first Famicom game but it's pretty bad.

Yes, that $100 drop will work great.  I timed it at 1/2 a second (the time for a jump attack), but it will be worth it for either gambling game.  As for town enemies, if you are doing the dice game, it is worth trying get coins because they are really worth $80 before gambling.

I wasn't paying attention to the rules of the dice game, and rolls of 10 or 11 will lose no matter what.  This means that the chance of winning once is 37.5%.  And the chance of winning 3 rolls in a row is 5.27%

So I looked at the odds of winning the lottery's first prize twice.  The chance of winning twice after 2 rolls is 0.39%, after 3 rolls, 1.12%, 4 rolls 2.15%, 5 rolls 3.44%, 6 rolls 4.95%, and 7 rolls 6.65%.  It is possible to get $2000 winning first prize once if you manage to get enough second prizes, so the odds should be a little bit better.

In the dice game, if you lose you have to reset.  But for the lottery you only lose $50, or gain if you get the first or second prize.  So playing the lottery means fewer resets since you can keep trying until you get $2000 or run out of money.

If you decide to do the lottery game, you should start out going until you run out of money so you can get through the game.  Later on you can tighten the number of attempts.
But the dice game still seems to have better odds for a fewer number of attempts.

I have not played any other game from this series. But I do really love this one. I will keep this offer in mind when I make the polls for my next game. I can't see me not liking more from this series.

I agree with you dunnius. And Going till broke is how I am cruising at the moment. I do like that the lotto is better for practice and the run in the end.
I think 1 is the worst in the series, but it's been a while since I've played 2 all the way through. I loved 3 and 4.

About a 40 min run or so. Not too bad for my first (real) day worth of practice. Feed back is always nice

Edit: How bout I make this into a real post?

Stage 1 is cake. Just need to get a good fight on the boss going. I am still trying out different things and need to just stick with one way of fighting her.

Stage 2 is a gambling waist of time. It is so stupid how much time it waists really. I considered this boss to be the toughest and now think "Eggrollss" is rather easy now (joke from the stream). Overall just waiting to get lucky with the lotto.

Stage 3 is not even a stage.

Stage 4 is becoming one of my faves to run. Getting to the 2D area is not hard at all, except for a few jumps between grass seems to be finicky. The 2D area is fun. Only thing that can go wrong really is the spinning tower things climb as you will see in the vid above. A bit more practice and it will not be an issue.

Stage 5 is not really anything special before the 2d part. It has its great timings and a great boss fight. Just need to remember to attack the off screen ppls...

Stage 6 should not have been put into this game. I hate the fucking monkeys and the damn Ninja Gaiden birds. They are retarded. I got a faster kill for this boss than what is in the vid now though. He is not hard really at all. Just them damn birds and fucking monkeys...

Stage 7 is a cake walk as well. Only a few birds that can cause much an any problems. Boss is a bit random and can take dmg on him from time to time now.

Stage 8 is a blast, except for the teder toder boss. I need to get him down... This stage also has the most retarded jump ever.

Overall this project is coming along good. Just need to actually play it a bit more than once ever few weeks...

Remember your mantra.
This is a topic I would like to see revisited.

I picked it up on VC about two weeks ago and I've enjoyed the little bit I've played so far. The twoplayer TAS (24:52) is entertaining, but irrelivent for the point of this thread unless someone ever wants to attempt this with a partner (which would be a timesaving grace on the same level as Bubble Bobble, but anyway). The One Player TAS (31:11), on the other hand, offers some pretty keen starts that I don't think are out of reach of human hands.

Heidrage, have you touched this one at all lately?
