I thought this game was dropped. I guess I should return to it...
I would have hoped that you would use bomb strat on lantern u_u
yeah i was hoping too! and welcome back
Willing to teach you the impossible
I was unable to do it consistently. So I thought best to not use it for a cleaner showing of the game. I also went out of my way to show mini games as well. I could have easily done a better coin route, but I wanted to show off the game a bit as most of the viewers have not seen it.

You deserved a shout out Beardini.

I would like to ask about categories for this game. I know SDA accepts Any%, 100% and Low% but for some games it cant exactly be that black and white. So as far as the community for this games goes, what categories should this game have?

Mini games, no mini games, 2p mini games, and 2p no mini games?

Uhm, I personally don't feel that there is a need for a mini games/no mini games categories because it's no fun grinding out the money without them (not fun to watch not fun to do)

There are not many people running this game so I prefer having simple and few categories...start slowly. We should have, for example, 'Warpless' and 'Any%' (your marathon run). If you have friends I guess '2P Any%' and '2P Warpless'. If more people join then we'll figure out more. How ya think?

PS: I played the game tonight it was great, I'll start making splits. I also made a stream layout.

German to the Past
Just ordered my jap. cart to pick this up for speedrunning. Mystical Ninja realy sparked my interest in japanese culture when I was a kid. I love the game and all the other games from the franchise. My donation even got read during Heid's run at AGDQ ^^.

Looking forward to playing this in NTSC (I live in Germany. So only PAL for me normaly).

1 player using 2p is called a 2p run by sda standards. The mini games vs no mini games is mostly for the lotto as any real run would be bound to it.
German to the Past
I guess learning 2P from the get go would be better, wouldn't it?

I don't really understand. If the only difference between 'minigames' and 'no minigames' is that you go to the lotto and have a different route, how does that make them being different categories by SDA standards then? I am debating because there are no major differences between the two only one is heavily RNG.

As for 1 player using 2P being called a 2P run, you are right. However there is nothing telling me that a 2P runs is actually going to use warps or not until I watch the whole run. There can be 2P runs where they do not warp for example, and it might be mixed with the other 2P runs using warps, know what I am saying? These two must be separated. Does that make a point?

well as theres only 4 people that come here lol and welcome prinny glad to see more people to join. Um the things changes a run we know is Lotto, Warps and Having a second player..
Lotto with the money problem
Warps with the huge level skips
2p with the boss damage instakills

id just put 2p with warps to be honest
2p warpless sounds like a srl thing since how much time saved with 2p anyway
as for lotto minigames whatever you wanna call it, id wait it out for a bit
cause i dont think it should have its own category but it kinda does i want to look more into the money thing with a ram watcher on the game see i can find anything which ill probably be doing this weekend thats my 2 cents

i dont think there should more than 2 or 3 categories!
German to the Past
Thanks for the welcome Smiley

I'll think I'll go for the category ran by Heidrage on AGDQ. I think it's neat to have to handle a second pad and since I am not aiming for a WR, I'll glady skip Lotto. (I don't know about the US, but Lotto is a company running the weekly lottery in Germany)

I agree 2p warps run is the most humanly possible run you can do...or 1 player no warps
Willing to teach you the impossible
My run at AGDQ was not meant to be a category. I chose my route to show the game off rather than finish as fast as I could.

I dont remember where Mike mentioned it, but he did say that if 2p enters into the game at any point, the run becomes a 2p run.

Yes the lotto brings a HUGE amount of rng into the game, and to be honest it is why I am asking about legit SDA categories. If every category has the lotto in it, I dont feel the need to run this game... like ever. That is only my stance.

The Japan runners do lotto and no lotto runs. So I figured we might follow the same path, but I guess not.
German to the Past
I think no Lotto should be a thing. Also think running a category based on so much RNG is bs. Don't want to have to reset because I got unlicky 10 times in a row.

I changed my mind and lottery should have its own category.
If someone gets a sick time with lottery I'll be forced to also do the same because there will be nothing else to run and ppl will quit running this game.

Sorry for the back and forth.
German to the Past
In conclusion we have the following choices (correct me, if I am wrong):

[1P / 2P] [, Warpless] [,Lotto / No Lotto]
as of right now its looking like

[1P] [2P] [Lotto]

I like the 2P warp in Ninja Castle and since 2P can be alive in the next stage it's the perfect setup for the pass skip.
The only downside is that you are forced to bring 2P with you during the action zone. I need come up with something so he starts with no health on his last life to make him die on the first monkey.

I tried the TAS strat during the tilting boss but I am not sure if it's worth it since you'll need to carry two players in the next stage. If you can navigate in the next level with 2 controllers and execute the warp by yourself after visiting the king's cell then you save time by a lot and everything was worth the effort. I tried and managed to do it using game saver...it's difficult but needs a lot of practice. The warp can be done fairly quick if you know where to position the player on the right side of the cell. The other player just need to squeeze through the entrance, nobody needs to kill any enemies. There is no tricks behind that it's just about correctly positioning one character.

Have yet to recieve my japanese cart. But I did a testrun on emulator. Wow. Good thing I love this game. ^^ Hitting enemies only with jump attacks is pretty tricky. Getting a lot of accidental down-inputs which caused me to undershot some jumps. Should replace the D-Pad on my SNES-controller.
Willing to teach you the impossible
Ya, hitting down will cancel your forward momentum when in the air. Guess no one ever really mentioned that. Just another thing this games does to make it tough.

Got my first 'run' last night with 2P warps. I finished at 36 minutes (got a game over like a champ) and I am pretty sure I can get sub 30. I changed route in the middle of the run and figured out (me and beardi) that concentration minigame can be way more faster than moles, and more safe. You can control the computer as well so just make him pick the wrong cards and get a perfect game on your turns. There are 6 - 9 patterns and they are written down somewhere in gamefaqs.

EDIT: Not true, moles are 10-15 secs faster after I checked.
German to the Past
Was thinking about the concebrration-game, too. Just saw it on GFAQ the other day.

What is the money route for the run? At which point are lookung into having X amount of Yen?

I've been running this game now for like a month. I'm still a little sloppy at running it. I always do the lottery, i've also been messing around with the dai/shou gambling house. I got really suprised when i saw that lottery glitch in the 28 nico run, it seems impossible for me to pull off. Here is my PB

I think its 1300 when reaching Ninja Castle.
1000 for the previous stage. I try to remember on top of my head I may be wrong.

Hi flamecookie, nice run for 1p. On my side, after a week, I did a 31:08 run using 2P and warps and did wak-a-moles minigame.

We set up [1P / 2P] [Warp, Warpless] [Gamble/Gamble-less], but when (or if) the game gets picked up, I think there should be a [Minigame/No minigame]. Maybe ppl will want to run without using anything on the side to boost their economy. For now i'll put this in the Gamble-less category.

Run is here: http://www.twitch.tv/estryark_/c/3600779 (just checked, twitch seems to cut the video at 27:50...)

EDIT: I am not sure when to start the timer. I start it when the game accepts input pass the title screen. Am I doing it right?
