Oh Minecraft, how much I've build and how many hours I've burned building. Seriously, I have more stuff than I can keep track of. Here's a few screenshots for those that want them:

the lighthouse
my backyard
my front yard

And that is a coffee break trinket compared to what others can build...

Sadly I won't be able to help if this multiplayer...server...thing gets off the ground, though good luck all the same

A Multiplayer SDA Server Sounds pretty cool I'm in for it.
Bjorn and I can do all the setup, we'll work on it soon. I'm out of town this weekend and don't have reliable internets, but I'll update you guys whenever we get one running.

In other news, our private server bugged out and ate proabably 4/5 stacks of cobblestone wall I'd built, along with both of my best chests...I'm going to spawn the stuff back. I can't lose 11 stacks of mossy, 13 of bookshelves, 24 diamonds, 60 ironblocks, 40 gold, 2 stacks obsidian, 3 stacks +50 bricks, record, record player, etc. Oh, and the other chest had 17 stacks of logs (not planks, logs) and 14 stacks of coal, + 2 stacks flints and other assorted doo dads.

I hate having to spawn stuff, but there's a fricken mountain where my chests used to be. Sigh...I hope this doesn't make anyone think Bjron running the server would be bad, this was a freak occurrence and I've heard of it happening to other servers. A chunk just randomly re-loads...it just happened to be a chunk that was very important to me...

Holy shit, that's a disgustingly huge loss. Also I would super <3 a SDA server.
Dang. that sucks Sad  But yeah...I have no problem with spawning items that were lost due to some bug.
I know, right? I can't wait to have to look up those codes.
It would be great to make a survival server (if possible). I'm also looking for somewhere to build with others where there is some consistency.

Survival would be fun.  I'm also game for just a simple creative one for SDA.  I'm in.

Biomes! <3

So, opinions on the Halloween Update?
Haven't had a chance to play Sad
Metroidvanias are God Tier
Halloween update is cool, A bit rushed but then again it was one guy. And my first experience in the nether, Explosion
#Casual
Yeah, it's pretty neat.  I think I'll see what's on the ceiling of the nether. Wink
Metroidvanias are God Tier
the ceiling is bedrock hinting that it is underground.
#Casual
ssh, you weren't supposed to tell me.  I've purposefully kept from looking online for people's accounts of the Nether.

Also, I'm definitely anticipating the SDA server.....

Notch made a couple of announcements back on the 11th that are pretty important, dunno how many of us saw them.

First, Minecraft will enter Beta on the 20th of December!  Progress!  Not to mention all the server-side coding that he has been working on lately as well.

Second (and probably most important), there will be a price raise from 10 Euros to 15 Euros at the release of Beta.  Also, they are removing the line from the license where all future updates are free.  People who buy it during Alpha (while it is still 10 Euros) and earlier will still receive all future updates for free (they are going to honor that line completely).  Buyers during Beta will get all updates free until release.

In short, if you want to buy this game, DO IT BEFORE DEC 20TH!  Not only will it be 5 Euros cheaper, but ALL future updates for the remainder of the game's life is free.

Yep -- also, what happened to FlamingMage's plans for a server... hmmm....
Server's probably going up on Wednesday. I'll post more about it once Bjorn and I have ironed out some of the details and spawned a good world for us all to work with. I'll keep you all posted, and look forward to soon meeting your crafting selves ^__^

BETAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

Update faster minecraft.exe! D=<
OKAY. Server is ready and up, Bjorn and I have been playing in it for a while now and although I'm experiencing some network issues they're all on my side.

I had some time away from internet, so I wrote a wall-o-text. Please read it, at least briefly, and then post if you want to join the server Smiley We'll be on as much as we can in the next few days to meet starting players.

A: Welcome to Wheatley

Wheatley is the town you will spawn near. The town is a communal area where everyone can build and socialize. Each player is given a plot of land in Wheatley to build on. Large-scale builds or harvesting operations should happen a decent distance away from town, but Wheatley will serve as a congregating and trading capital. Some basic server rules;
Realize that you’re in a multiplayer environment. Don’t be a dick. Realize the differences between communal and private property. Use Signs. Seriously, use a bunch of signs, mark everything. Respect others and feel free to collaborate, but don’t impose yourself upon them. Don’t spam the chat.
Also, this is a survival multiplayer server. Do not spawn objects. Do not role-play. Play just like you would in your single player…but with other people. No cheating, keep it fair and fun for all of us.

B: On the subject of Large-scale projects.

Do them. Make big castles and huge mines, make farms, terraform mountains, drain oceans, whatever. But in doing so, remember to be considerate. If you need to harvest a bunch of sand, don’t do it by someone’s beach house. If you’re going to be building within a short distance of someone else, ask them. Try not to obstruct others or leave ugly pits near them. If you need to deforest a region, make sure it isn’t someone’s forest. This isn’t your single player world, and if you set a region on fire for fun, don’t light anyone’s house on fire. In both mining and crafting, try to keep your large scale projects in a place that no one minds them.

C: On the subject of  Airspace/Underground

For the most part, property lines don’t apply underground. Obviously, asking players to keep track of their position in a tunnel or cave relative to someone’s building 40 blocks overhead is dumb. Also obviously, don’t dig tunnels through someone’s underground rooms. If you happen to hit one, replace the wall and change directions/depths.
Airspace, in contrast, obeys all the same common sense rules as structures on the ground. Don’t build a floating castle above anyone’s house without asking.

D: On the subject of Griefing/Banning

We don’t want to ban people, but we certainly will. I really shouldn’t have to list behaviors considered inappropriate, it’s all basic stuff like griefing, theft, rudeness, disobeying the rules of town, etc. If you constantly misbehave, even just small things, it may well start adding up. Just be respectful, we can all be mature I’m sure.

E: On the subject of The Exchange

One of the coolest things about multiplayer is that you can trade items with other players. This is of course permitted and encouraged – job specialization leads to success, as history has shown. We do feel, however, that some sort of exchange rates should be established. Feel free to deviate from these, but keep in mind the inherent risks therein – if you sell cheap, your buyer can re-sell and make a handy profit. Oversell and no one will ever buy. There are a lot of oddball items we left off the list, mostly because you’ll never see anyone buying them in bulk (64 fishing rods?)
The economy in Wheatley is based off of the two most basic resources, Coal and Logs. 1 log is equivalent to 1 coal, and the two are interchangeable in all these rates.

64 Coal = 64 Logs

64 Coal = 2 Diamonds
64 Coal = 8 Gold Ingots
64 Coal = 24 Iron Ingots
64 Coal = 16 Obsidian
64 Coal = 16 Bookshelves
64 Coal = 2 Stacks Glass
64 Coal = 32 Saplings
64 Coal = 64 Clay Balls (16 blocks)
64 Coal = 3 Stacks Smoothstone
64 Coal = 4 TNT
64 Coal = 2 Stacks Arrows

Other items can be decided on a trade-by-trade basis, and let me restate that these are merely guidelines to try and standardize the value of certain resources. Feel free to trade anything with anyone and any rate you want. Many items, like redstone, clay/bricks, gold, fences, etc, have very different values to different players, and therefore can be traded at different rates. Also, the rates above mostly discus raw resources, so place your own value on refinement.

The Exchange itself is a building in Wheatley. Every member of Wheatley has a part of The Exchange to themselves, with a couple of signs and a storage chest. If you ever want to make a trade that no one currently online can fill, write it on your signs. If you’re a trusting person, place whatever you’re offering in your chest. Correspondingly, whenever you happen to be in Wheatley, look through the exchange and check the signs. If you want to fill any of them, say so on the sign or just make the trade in the storage chest. This system should help speed economy even if only 0-2 people are online at a time, especially if we all trust each other.

F: On the subject of Jobs

No, this isn’t a real labor force. Just a little bit of theory crafting. I think it would be cool if everyone kept in mind that resources can be not only traded, but also used an incentives to other players. For example, you could offer supplies to anyone willing to help you dig a quarry or flatten a mountaintop. By contracting other players to do work you want to avoid, and paying them in a way they want, we can establish something of a realistic economy. Many players may prefer to work on their own projects, but occasionally collaborating couldn’t hurt. Also, keep in mind that the quarry from earlier could become communal between the two workers, or at least the yield could be divided.
More abstractly, players may end up specializing in primarily one portion of mining, i.e. tree farming. A mineral miner may want to establish a good and repeated relationship with the tree farmer, possibly offering each other reduced bulk rates or somesuch.
Possibly, people may also take infrastructure projects upon themselves. For instance, a player may truly want to build a road/rail system spanning the world. Another may want to specialize exclusively in dungeon hunting and monster killing.
I’m not really sure if this sort of stuff will develop, but keep it in mind.

IF YOU WANT TO BECOME PART OF WHEATLEY:

Post in this thread that you want to, obeying the following format;

Minecraft name: Flamingmage
Preferred name(s): Isaac, Mage

Also, if you see a job/role you will likely fill, say so. A brief summary of your playstyle never hurt anyone.

Playstyle: I build and mine about equally and generally avoid monsters. I love trading and collaborating, and would volunteer time towards group projects. My buildings are typically unusual in some way and I welcome anyone to come in and visit/help. I also plan on cornering the market on bookshelves ^__^

Once you fill this out, if you’re a registered SDA member, I’ll send you the IP. DO NOT EVER GIVE THE IP TO ANYONE. Seriously, don’t. There’s no need to, if you want to let a friend in who you can vouch for just ask me about it. We won’t turn people away for the most part, but we also want the server to stay small and personal. If at any point in the future you see yourself mostly stopping being active for a month or more, just say so. We’ll let you back in later, but your plot in Wheatley is being wasted.

When you spawn, just look around for Wheatley. Hopefully we’ll be on, but otherwise just get started, I recommend building a little hiding hut in the ground :D. The plots in Wheatley are 16x16 and should be pretty obvious, feel free to claim whichever one you want and mark it.

I know that was long, sorry, I got carried away Smiley Just post if you want to get in, the IP is being withheld just so we just don't want to ever deal with griefers.
