Ha!  Last night playing, I stumbled onto the very bottom of Minecraft.  I was expecting lava -- you know what I got???

Sky / Empty Space!!!

When I dug down and I got light, I was SOOO confused and disoriented.  I thought I warped to the other end of the world or something.  My second thought was that it was water and I tried to drop a boat which promptly disappeared from view.  I dropped down only to get hurt from some unknown force way below the game map until I died.  Sooo strange.

So now I mark every pit to the bottom of the world with a wooden block... Good stuff.  I suppose someone else has encountered this...

I thought Notch would have bordered that with Adminium/Bedrock! Hahahaha.

I now have 2 full stacks of logs, but since I'm awful at building a basic building, I'll need a lot of help for my first decent looking house! I have a tireless supply of wood, it's so plentiful EVERYWHERE. The bad part is that it likes to spawn Creepers more often, so I'll need Creeper proofing measures too. I don't have a quarry or a farm/generator though, so this one'll be toughie.

I know FlamingMage is a VERY GOOD builder, after seeing his WIP of Project Luca. Enlighten the poor. Grin

What I'm doing is playing it in "peaceful" difficulty so I can get the hang of everything.  Then I plan on playing on a harder difficulty.
Lol, thanks. I don't really consider myself all that good of a builder, but I try my best. I actually was planning on making a video of building techniques and strategies soon, I'll link to that.

The bottom of the world has quite a lot of pits, sadly Sad Careful mining at great depths is a must! I've never fallen myself, but I expect that losing lots of minerals from deep down would suck...

Oh, and kryal: I suggest ladders for entering/leaving your mineshaft, you can make them with sticks in an 'H' shape. They're expensive in wood but I hear you have plenty of that.
You can save ladders by only setting a ladder every other stone on the way down (or up). If you are looking for diamond, iron and coal fairly clustered, mine between 9-11 rocks from the bottom of the map where you find Adminium.

Something that I do to save on building ladders is to make a spiral staircase.  Basically, dig out three steps downward, turn left/right (pick one), dig three steps downward, turn again (same direction), dig three, turn, repeat.  It's good for digging downward.

I just recently stumbled into lava in one of my caverns and I was so startled and "afraid" that it would kill me, so I ran all the way up to my entrance.  When I came back down, I found the flow just stopped upon entering my cavern.

*phew*

So, now I'm trying to channel the lava into some lake or whatever I want with it.  Very cool stuff.

Lol, nice tjp.

I think that I may the only one who does this, but I get annoyed with all the blocks of stone and dirt that I get and fills my inventory.  So what do I do with it?  I purposely get a bucket of lava and build a 'garbage' in my fort/house/cave/whatever to throw all my extra junk in.  Fun way to keep the inventory clean.
Nah, incinerators are fairly common in non-wood houses. Personally, I save all that stuff. There's always some use for it.

tjp; I suggest carrying a bucket of water to handle lava easily, Either that or just assess the location of the source block(s) and replace them with cobble or dirt or whatever.

Ha, I did NOT know you could carry lava in a bucket.  You know -- lava -- metal -- whatever.
I agree with not trowing anything out. I made a big storage room with a lot of large chests to store each component like stone, gravel, sand ect. It came in handy for me quite a few times. You can also, when in inventory mode, take your item and discharge it (outside of the inventory window) to the direction where you want. It will despawn after a while.

Last night I was planning on playing in the ice/water and accidentally got trapped in the ice, but the game registered me NOT underwater.  So, I dug a tunnel to the shore and now it *appears* I can mine normally underwater without having to breathe underwater!!!

It only worked at the shore though -- I was just jumping up and down as the ice block reformed.  I'm sure there's a specific way to do it.  Now for more play time...

Huh, never thought of doing that.  So many possibilities in this game. ^^

Nice.  I've recently discovered the art of "water source molding", changing the shape of a waterfall.  Right now I have sort of a fountain floating in mid-air with torches behind it to illuminate it.

I also realize that buckets carry water sources and so now I have a REALLY tall waterfall.  I hope to expand that.

Also, I'm trying to build a skywalk in the world -- blocks the highest they can go.  It's very precarious, causing me to work REALLY slowly and build a storage chest to store items so I don't lose TOO much when I fall to the ground.  I was messing with ways to avoid dying while falling.  I found that if you fall into water, you don't die.  With the waterfalls I can just ride them down harmlessly!

It seems strange though that buckets can't get water from waterfalls, hmmm...

Fun stuff!
Buckets can get water from the very top of the falls....

If you're crouched you shouldn't be falling, tjp...shift key? I have bit of experience with causeways and agree that they are awshum.

Nice, Kryal Smiley Don't forget a hatchet.

Also, first attempt at minecraft speedrunning:

Can anyone beat me?

Remember when I said that I thought there was a dungeon? There was. I got a low haul of mossy cobblestone (37), but I have a mob spawner to abuse (I was playing on peaceful so I don't know what mob it is, but a spawner is a spawner).
Spider spawn=suck. Hopefully it is a zombie one, they're the best. But skeletons are okay too.

Wow, 37 is the lowest I've ever heard of. In my multi server I recently found two zombie dungeons about twelve spaces apart (heard one and accidentally found the other looking for the first. One of them has 64 mossy...The most I've ever seen is (I think) 68.
I never thought of harvesting the mossy cobblestone before I saw this thread. Thanks, that will give a little more colour to my buildings.
I just now pre-purchased it. I've had so many friends telling me to get it. also I love all of your videos flamingmage haha
Mossy is the new black.

Wait, that's obsidian...

And thank you tenfold Smiley Minecraft is awesome! You won't regret buying it one bit!
Holy cow I'm already hooked. One of the things I love about this game (besides the obvious crafting, exploring, freeform element of it) is that it is so easy to just pick up where you left off...I'm pretty busy right now at college and I don't have much time for games...but with this game I can just play a little bit here and there and stop whenever. Of course that "little bit" often times can grow...... haha
Halloween update coming up!! Also, I've talked with FlamingMage briefly about this...but how do other members of SDA feel about an SDA server? I just want a mp server to collaborate with people on big projects..and do so with as little hacks/add-ons as possible (so many multiplayer servers use these :/ )

Awesome. I'm in!
