Also, if it'll help with group registration at all, my fiance (Silver, I think you met her a couple times) will be coming with me to both the marathon and MAGFest.
The way the dates line up with school, it's more likely that I'll be able to stay for MAGfest.
I have a couple of questions, though.
1) Are we keeping our marathon housing only throughout the marathon? in other words, do MAGfest attendees need to make additional lodging arrangements?
2) Is it cheaper to book flights now, or is there some other better time to get the best price?

Usually with airlines, the closer to the date, the more expensive it is.
As for housing, from what I've read, Mike is looking at booking the lodging though the marathon, so I assume that costs per person will be reflected in whether you're staying for MAGFest or not. Nothing has been booked yet though.

That's what I thought. I've heard from some people that flight costs go down right before a flight if they havent filled up but I don't really want to gamble with this
Yeah, they can. But that's very much the minority. Typically they go up a ton when it gets close. Prices I've seen for the route I'll be taking are pretty cheap, so I expect a good majority of them to be fairly reasonable.
I may be able to come, I am most likely free it is merely a matter of if I have money at the time.
As I said in the other marathon thread I could do a fable 2 run, which would take about 3:30-3:45, maybe wanna throw 4 hours on schedule to stay safe (If lady luck decides to beat me up)
I'd have to look into flight prices, but other then that should be fine.
I would most likely not be going to MAGfest, but if I can, and you want me to, I will run Fable 2 for the marathon.
(Again, I would have to have a ballpark on the costs for the marathon, but if it is reasonable then I'll prolly go with it. Edit: I just read mikes post about lodging prices bieng 80-130 bucks PP, I should b e able to do that if I can find reasonable flight costs, Unless someone in the central New York area is also going to the marathon and feels like Carpooling (I'll chip in for Gas!))
I would love to attend the marathon. Even if its just to show some of you in action. Ive never posted before and only recently registered here, but it would be sweet to drop by even if its just for a few hours. Im planning a holiday to america next year so ill look for a place near magfest;)

I'm in Western NY and was considering driving at one point, but then I remembered that it's like a 14 hour drive to DC from here. I've done a few 7 hr drives, and I did 12 once, but it was not enjoyable. I think the flight is the better option, considering I'd lose an entire day worth of time in the car otherwise. :/
Flip: What VG said. You don't have to try to find flights now, but I would suggest searching sooner rather than later. I know Southwest and Airtran are cheaper airlines.
BTW, the fact you'll be flying in the winter after New Years means the fares should be pretty low.
SMK: Awesome! Maybe this time you can keep track of donations using more than a sheet of paper! BTW, I still have that sheet of paper, I consider it a historical document.
Ilseroth: Cool, I put you on the 1 or 2 things holding you back list.
Trekhaak: If you can find the time to come on by, then you're definitely welcome.
Speaking of driving, I believe we should set up a Carpooling thread or a list of people who plan on driving and where they are starting from (about, no need for specifics) if they don't mind picking up someone on the way.
I personally do not have a car, and though I would be willing to pay to fly, I would prefer to save money and carpool (though I am willing to help pay for gas/snacks if there was carpooling) and if someone going to the marathon lives in the area (or at least will be passing closeby anyways) and doesn't mind the company, they could pick me up.
Obviously other people who don't mind picking people up on the way, or people who would hope for a ride could post where they are starting from and that way people who don't live too far away could save money (and the person carpooling can reduce the cost of their trip by having people chip in for gas).
Again if noone wants to carpool, I'll just try to get a plane ticket assuming I have the cash, but *shrug* thought it might be a good idea.

I second this. It would help people find more cost efficient ways to get there, especially for those who have issues with money or just traveling in general.
Carpooling is a great idea, though this thread might not be the best place to make arrangements (we do have a whole forum to work with here after all).

PJ: I have a friend who goes to school in Rochester, and I think it takes him about 8 hours to go from Rochester to DC.
Yup. I checked yesterday. It takes almost exactly 7 hours of speed limit driving to make it to MAGFest. I imagine we'd be somewhere reasonably close, so the estimate is basically the same. 7 hours << 14 hours. ^_^
