Mandel, I think there's a bug in your demarathon thing. After playing the first level, the game crashes trying to load the second demo with the message "Demo message > MAX_MSGLEN". Sad
That's unfortunate Sad GinKo was kind enough to compile my marathon demos the old way so I decided to upload my current id1 ER record to youtube.

GinKo, can I find the uncompiled demo somewhere then so that I can take a look at what the issue may be?
Here it is. The original demo from Max and the output from Demarathon GUI 0.2. I've tested with other demos, so I don't think it's specific to this one. I have Joequake build 1329, but I also tested on some version of WinQuake.

According to this, there was a 23 times increase in the number of demos this past year. Which means that, if we keep it up, by 2015 we'll have 13824 demos a year!

The pak from my prog seems to work well for me, even the one in your dz, GinKo. Haven't tried it in Joequake but DirectQ and lmpc don't complain at all. I'll have to try Joequake though. So, start works but e4m1 fails (all_1300)?
Yeah, generally speaking, it crashes with the error "Demo message > MAX_MSGLEN" when it tries to load the next demo (like with coolkid's run if I play start.dem then it crashes when it tries to load e4m1.dem at the end of the demo). I'd imagine the command being added to play the next demo is different to the one added by the old demtool, perhaps it puts the whole path to a file when it shouldn't - I have no idea how any of it works, so it's just a wild guess.

Allright, I found the issue (the block with playdemo needs to also have a disconnect message). Unfortunately I don't have the possibility to recompile the GUI version anymore Undecided

Best I can do is a command line tool. However, ideally all you need to do is drop your demo file on the exe icon and you should get your pak0.pak. I built the new binary with MinGW/MSYS.
