I think a topic of this should be started. Any new run ideas?
Thread title:
MrGrunz is a guay
A new segmented any% using the ocarina glitch sub 2:25.  I would try it after my first few speedruns but my gameboy player disk is so ****ing scratched :(.
I actually think it could be faster then that. with the ability to skip the royal valley, water fall, part of the temple of droplets (which i think is a retarded name for a dungeon :P), alot of dark hyrule castle, and if you go very fast, it could probably save a good 30 minutes off of TSAs run, resulting in sub 2:20 (despite the time it takes to save). i might also try a run of this after finishing or quitting my oot one. BTW, can someone tell me where the gba input is on the GCN? I might sound stupid, but i cant find it.

It could probably be sub 2:20 but I didn't want to make the aim too low.

Do you have the gameboy player?

If you mean one of these...

http://www.amazon.com/Game-Player-Accessory-Nintendo-GameCube/dp/B000090W86

...you will have trouble finding it, unless you are looking in a shop.  And even then you will need a bit of luck I would believe.  The Gameboy player is not standard on the Gamecube.  You need to buy it first.

Edit:  Oh and I would switch to this now.  OoT seems to be the most sped run game.  I would go back to it if you ever get more experience by completing this run.

No offense intended, we have all got to start some where, but being thrown in at the deep end is not always a good thing.

With overall optimisation, including better use and management of items, getting the right Tiger Scrolls, an updated route, and making no mistakes, with the current tricks (excluding aforementioned Ocarina Glitch) about 2:20 is the limit. Making no mistakes is the key - like TSA said in his comments, the consequences for mistakes in a TMC run are large.

With the Ocarina Glitch, sub-2:00 might be possible, depending on how useful the glitch turns out to be for speed running. I imagine it will find the most use in dungeons, allowing a lot of skipping due to the nature of how dungeons work.

I actually tried running this game a couple of years ago, but I never ended up completing it due to a lack of GBP. So it would be great to see someone run this.

I found something for the first boss.  It is impossible to beat it in less than 3 cycles.  In fact, you can only hit it 3 times for cycles 1 and 2 then mash like hell on 3 and still get the same as you would if you mashed like hell on 1 and 2.

I guess that saves button mashing energy. Also, does anyone know if you can beat the first miniboss in 1 cycle? my record is 2 cycles, but on the second cycle i only had to strike a few times

P.S. Im not a n00b at oot, paused, im actually very good at it

2 cycle minimum, as demonstrated by Atma.

If you are offended you should not have been.

It was meant as advice as your new to the site, and usually that means you are new at speed running too.

If you are so very good at it, feel free to try one of the most competed games on the site.  It just usually puts most people off once they try.  Clearly not the case here.  I will definetly watch it when it is submitted.

Eh... i wasnt offended at all. its common for people to think your not very good at a game if your a begginner donkey didler. i was just stating that i wasnt bad at the game.

And I'm not new to the site. I'm new to the forum, yes, but I have know about speedrunning for a long time.

About the first boss 3 cycle thing, its actually faster to mash on all 3 cycles.

Some small timesavers:

After the last hit to the first boss, using the 1-2 seconds you have before the cutscene, try to run to the middle to minimize the time you have to walk there during the cutscene

I'm not sure what causes this, but sometimes on the first boss when it loses its balance, it will either move right, left, right, left, fall or left, right, left, fall.  Until we can figure out how to get LRL consistently, try to get it at least 2/3 cycles.  I haven't been able to get it 3 times in a row yet though.

When getting the spin attack, while charging it, move towards the door to minimize the time to get there after getting the scroll.

I think I will try making a route soon.

Um... im not sure if a route will be worth the work. its pretty obvious if you know where to use glitches. but if you want to you can go ahead anyway, its just that minish cap isnt a very complicated route-planning game like oot.

Well its always good to have a route handy anyway ;).  Plus I have found a couple savewarps to save a bit of time.
Ok, i decided im going to do an any% segmented minish cap run. Paused, you were right, the oot run is ALOT of work, and id probably want to hold that off for later. However, im not sure id be comfortable submitting it to sda. is there anyone with past-speed demos archive speed run submitting experience who i can ask something?

Ok, I've got a 4 day weekend so I can probably make a quick route with all those savewarps in a day or 2.

nice route, but do you think it might save time if you do the cucco collecting for 70 rupees instead of the chests? i dont really think it does, but its just an idea
MrGrunz is a guay
No, the chests only take 15 seconds to get, max.  Cucco collecting takes 30+ and traveling time.

Seems like my runs are useful speed source, I'll try and make the 5th dungeon run followed by Hyrule castle (2 types depending on SDA rules with the Ocarina glitch).

Yes they are.  I hope to se the PoW speedrun soon :D.  You don't nee to do a dark hyrule castle one now though because pika did a video route for it (not a speedrun though).  And if the ocarina glitch is banned then we should let this topic burn in hell.  And besides, the walk through walls glitch is legal in pokemon R/B/Y and I don't see how the ocarina glitch is much different besides maybe a seperate category.

Also, can someone try doing this glitch to get into the house with the dog next to it and douse the flames to get the power braclets early?  This might skip the first book, but its probably TAS only if it does.

True and the Ocarina glitch isn't used throughout of the whole game nor was the Go through Walls glitch in Pokemon Blue they are way different to the Up+Down glitch run used in A Link to the Past
hey, i noticed something. vaati has the exact same laugh as the happy mask shop salesman.
