I read somewhere that it's possible to skip the 3-element sword using the Ocarina Glitch for early Palace of Winds. If this is true, can someone tell me how to do it, the earliest it can be done, and any bad glitches to watch out for when doing it? I didn't have too much of a problem getting into the Palace of Winds using the Ocarina Glitch, but I don't know how to get past the large block without using the 3-element sword. (I have the 3-element sword on that save file already, but I couldn't find a way not to use it.)

I want to, but I don't think I'm good enough. Besides, there some other runs I need to do first.
Edit: just saw the route from samohT (wow, that's weird to say, since it's been my second name since I've joined the web haha). Was I stupid for going to the Temple all at once? =/
I'm referring to my first segment on Youtube (which I plan to redo regardless).
This Ocarina glitch. I hate to waist a post asking for help with it, but I'm not having any luck, and I've been at it for a while. Could someone say exactly what has to be done or where a good place to do it is? It is my understanding that all you do is hit up and the Ocarina button at the same time right below a set of stairs...
A few days ago I managed to freeze the game while trying the glitch. Music still played, but everything else froze. Sometimes when trying the Ocarina glitch the roll command would display for a few frames or so, so i tried pressing R around those frames and that's it. I have not been able to do it again, it may need tool assisted timing...

the route of the first segment was ok. you did not save, so save about 3-5seconds.
when I get a DVD recorder (damn parents, say mean it's too expensive) I start a run, too. maybe on chrismas^^ In my route I also go to the first temple in one segment. It's only a walking segment, so it should be very easy to do

Stand right under a staircase. Here's exactly hwo it works:
frame 0 - no input frame 1 - up frame 2 - up + ocarina
If you do up + ocarina on frame 1 or 3, it won't work.
I know that most people have forgotten about this, but I'm still working on the run. I took about a 9 month break, because of school and stuff, but I picked up on it now and finished a few segments over the past week. I am pretty far, i just entered the Temple of Droplets. So hopefully I can get it done around summer/fall time, if anyone gives a crap
ok, I decided to upload my stuff. I discovered temple of droplets early, what doesn't skip the flippers yet. we need to get past one room in the temple of droplets, then we have it done: book quest skip
temple of droplets early:
I uploaded 2 other useless, but cool new glitches already. be prepared for much more awesome stuff within the next few days
temple of droplets early is still a shortcut for the book quest, though

How is the temple early a shortcut for the books, do they automatically get put back when you enter the temple or something?

I don't know what you mean about they get put back but it's a shortcut for the books because you have to get them in order to get the flippers.
In the cave of flames right after unlocking the boss door. There is a fairy in one of the pots.
That won't work, we need to use the bottle for water to get the first and second books. And we can't get the third first, we need power bracelets to get the third.
EDIT: Right after we return the second book, we can go to N. Hyrule Field. By ramming into the tree here (marked with an X), a fairy will pop out.
EDIT 2: Put together a new route quickly, including the new trick and a couple small timesavers I found while doing a practice run. I think I might try to speedrun this game as well, so tell me what you think about the route.

There are some more timesavers. In segment 23, its faster to save right after talking to the picori (also you don't even need to talk to the librarian, you only need to for the second book). Also in seg 23 its faster to save right after pushing the book down. I tested this stuff out while doing the run. Nice route overall though.
what would be the goal timewise for this now... factoring in (of course) all the speedtricks and sequence breaks.
TSA's time was 2:45. On estimate:
The faster text scrolling should save about 5 minutes Savewarping should save about 5 minutes Better play from segmentation should save about 5 minutes Ocarina glitch should save about 15 minutes
So a time of around sub 2:20 should be expected probably.
Youtube's LightBlueYoshi was working on a TAS (sadly, he never finished) and after he beat the boss of the 1st dungeon, he obviously skipped the Heart Container. As he got the bombs and went on his way to Hyrule Town, he took some damage to the point that one hit would kill him. Keep in mind that his bombs were set on B. When he had to do the Kinstone Fusion, he simply dropped a bomb with B and let himself die. I think it only saves a few seconds, but that's better than nothing.
Looking at the 100% definition, two major items of note are not included. These are the mirror shield and the Carlov Medal. The reasoning behind these being skipped was simply because it added extra time onto the run without doing anything new. The mirror shield requires you to beat the game twice (giving your shield to Biggoron after beating Vaati the first time), while the Carlov Medal requires the 6 figurines only obtainable after we beat the game. We unfortunately need the first 130 to unlock the house with a piece of heart, nothing we can really do about that.
A couple things about the route: - it is extremely, extremely luck dependent. Green kinstones are gotten from picolyte, by far the fastest and cheapest way in the game to get the green kinstones. The problem with this is that you need a ridiculous 46 green kinstones from picolyte, and I have 5 picolyte uses planned into the run. Now, you have about 800 rupees left at the end to get extra if you need, but the major issue is the first couple uses, you need around 6 - 8 kinstone drops per picolyte, because more than half thea fair number fuses you do before the end game questing are part of a set of 18 random fusions, meaning you likely need a different green kinstone combination in each run. While the run is set up so blue and red kinfuses are not an issue, the luck needed to get the greens can and will derail, by my estimates, 60 - 70% of runs, if not more. - I need to relook at the shell route, my test run (where I reset for the proper kinstone luck) finished with about 300 shells left over. My strats are in the route, so it's a simple matter of finding where to load up the shells.
I'll be sure to stream a full test run of the route sometime in the near future (hopefully next week sometime). The first 2 hours of the route (just returned the third book with fairly unoptimized playing and lots of stopping to check the route and take notes) are recorded on my jtv (justin.tv/shaddod2), so check that out if you want to see the first bit of it.
With regards to the any% ss, I think with all the new tricks found and better optimization, a sub 2:10 RTA timing (so approx 5 mins better than my SDA run) is a possibility. There's some more stuff I have to include in the route before I can take a reasonable run at that goal, but with school coming up in about a month, I don't know if I'll get a chance to hit that goal. :/
I find the best place for grinding green Kinstones is in the Wind Ruins, just south of the dungeon where all the grass forms the perimeter around the L-shaped area. Dashing through that turns up a lot of them. I think that area has a higher drop rate of them, or maybe it just seems like that because of the speed at which you're mowing down grass. Either way, even without picolyte they come pretty fast, so that might be your best bet if you can afford to wait until that point to do it.
I have a grind spot in Castor Wilds, but I noticed I had much better drops rate in the short grass compared to the tall grass, so I might move there. The one problem is I dont have the pegasus boots nor dash attack until late, but I honestly doubt that'll be an issue, 15 seconds (the time you get) is probably more than enough.
I can't find a substitute for the Lake Hylia grind spot, though. Lon Lon Ranch, maybe? I'll have to test.
