While I do not have time to run the game anymore, I just wanted to stop in and say holy hell the time has gotten low. I remember when I though sub 1H was going to be hard. If life works around it I may have to pick this back up again. Also congrats Nil8r, I noticed you are playing at sgdq this year, do us proud.
Here's a video demonstrating how we currently begin the run with select door:

In addition to skipping some Pueblucho intro stuff, it also sets our select door location to Pueblucho for later warping in the run (warping back there right after we acquire Pollo Power).
Well, I think I have the incentive to come back to the game then, thanks for that protongue.
Hey Blazze!  Yeah, the time is getting pretty silly at this point.  The race to Sub 1 Hour was so intense, now we are closing in on possibly racing to sub 50 Minutes.  And thanks, I'll do my best Smiley
I miss the game but had some life issues get in the way, hopefully I can get back in the running with this new trick. I almost wonder if getting goat climb might be worth it again if you can just warp back to pueblucho

Hmmm, hadn't thought of that.  It might just barely even out actually.  Definitely something that needs to be tested.

And sorry to hear about that man, hope everything is going alright
I think I'm going to dust off the game tonight and try a couple runs and see if it's worth it. It will make the run safer, but the question is, is the time you save getting to Flame Face equal to the time you would save with the climb

Luckily everything is going better now, so I should finally have some time to get going again.

Not sure if anyone has tested changing your select door mid run, I just attempted to change it before the temple of war and it caused my game to crash.

To add on to this, upon trying to continue my game after the crash it was on new game. So it's looking like you cannot change it for a quick travel from Temple of War back to town.
Testing is still in progress.  I have played through the whole game using all the warps, it wasn't during a run though.  I believe FriedEel also finished a run with the new route, as well as Weskurr maybe?

Activating this glitch may make the game more likely to crash, we are unsure at the moment.
Well, using the glitch only crashed me when trying to activate it a second time. There is no problems doing it at the beginning, but when I tried to do it again in Santa Luchita I would get a crash when I hit new game. Seems you cannot have more than one select door per run.
Oh no, the time in Santa Luchita, don't select New Game.  Just select Continue.  Selecting New Game anywhere outside of Pueblucho seems to crash the game, yeah.  You only use New Game that first time.
So you can change the select door by using continue  instead of new game? Alright that should be good. Where all are you using the warp?
First Select Door is in Pueblucho right at the beginning.  Selecting New Game there skips the Barrel sequence among other things.  Then, you play like normal all the way until you get Pollo Power (you can't use the Save Warp in Temple of Rain anymore).  After you get Pollo Power, pause, select Quit, and you'll be back in Pueblucho.  Continue playing like normal.  When you get to Tule Tree, use the Olmec Head to warp to Santa Luchita, set up the Select Door glitch there at the first door you get to.  Go back to Tule Tree, once you get Double Jump, Pause and Quit, and you'll be at the entrance to the Desert in Santa Luchita.  Play through Temple of War until you get Derp Derp, then Pause and Quit, and you'll be at the entrance to Sierra Morena.  Finish the game from there.

If you're going to test picking up Goat Climb, the finish Temple of War up to Goat Climb, and then Pause and Quit.

I will test it eventually, I need to shake my rust off, I was messing up Tule Tree today and dying to the first roomm of red skeletons, I am so damn rusty.

I can only imagine how bad the big climb towards the end is going to be to relearn.

I'm using the route that Nil8r mentioned. The select door setup in Santa Luchita right before Tule Tree is awesome!

I finished a run yesterday (53:19) and today (52:00), and experienced no crashes in them. As you experienced Blazze, it seems that select door -> new game makes the game crash if you do it anywhere other than Agave Field or Pueblucho.

Also note that instead of Alt+F4 to quit the game (select door overrides in-game quit functionality), you can get back to the game's real main menu via select door -> leaderboards -> B. This also clears select door warping on your current save file.

The purchasing and money pickup locations are flexible now, especially since we are not using the purchase + quit strategy. Perhaps we can pick up Stamina Chunk + Stamina Delay Boost in Temple of Rain slightly sooner, and postpone the 2nd Stamina Chunk until Temple of War.

One thing that really bothers me is that after select door -> new game in Pueblucho, I've seen the in-game timer display values from 0:09 to 0:59. Has anyone else witnessed this phenomenon? It would be nice if the in-game timer were consistent here :(. Then again, the carry-over time might be dependent on how long it took to perform select door -> new game, but it's definitely not carrying over the game time properly.

EDIT: I think I figured out the in-game timer functionality. After performing select door -> new game in Pueblucho, the in-game timer's value displays how long you spent in Pueblucho. So the ~30 seconds that you spent climbing Juan's stairs, talking to Fray, and hopping over agave hills is not counted.

As Protongue mentioned above it seems to be the new game option that crashes the game. I completed two runs last night with no issues. All in all it looks like the glitch if executed well saves around 1:45 RTA,  and about 2:45 in game.

Didn't know that about the in game timer protongue, that's cool though, as it really incentivizes good execution of the select door glitch..

Was able to get a 50:05 last night with some very significant mistakes, so a good run is looking at around an in game time of sub 49. A reasonable long term goal looking like sub 48 - that is unless something else is discovered.  Shocked
Yeah I didn't get any crashes in the last few runs so it must just be hitting new game again. My last few runs I am hitting an hour inside of the Grand Temple so I still need to relearn some stuff. I'm also trying to learn to wall climb as fast as FriedEel does it, that is just nuts to do consistently.
Yep,  Eel is pretty much uncontested when it comes to wall hopping speed.  I have bursts where I go as fast, but its short lived and eventually leads to a mistake

I hate to beat a dead horse, but here is yet another Cacti Arena Skip setup. It's super safe (very generous timing windows) while still being decently fast, making it a good candidate for races (or marathons Nil8r!). Special thanks to Eel for discovering this particular wall jump behavior and to Weskurrr for walking me through it:

Congrats on the PB Eel! So close to sub-50 that you're already setting your sights on sub-49/48 Shocked . You can do it, no doubt.

Just a heads up, I'll be visiting my family this Sunday, so I won't be able to participate in this week's race. The following Sunday should be fine. Blazze, you should definitely join in the races - the first one was a lot of fun Smiley
Well the run I just finished was a 1:07, so I will definitely get into the races when I am at a point I won't look like a joke compared to you guys haha.

Come race even if you feel you are a joke compared to the rest. That was the position I was in last week, and I still had fun. It may help you get used to to running while "on the spot", as some would say. Plus, we use mumble to goof around and stuff, so there's that. =)

I've started practicing this, and honestly, I think I'll be using it in the majority of my runs until I can get my nerves under control and stay 100% consistent with the other setup. It's only 2-3 extra seconds when done right, and there's a lot of wiggle room for failure. Thanks for sharing it, PT!

One thing I've been meaning to ask, and forgive me if this is somewhere in the thread, is this: Is the pad or the stick faster when it comes to wallhopping?
It's difficult to answer and depends on the game pad you're using. I personally have made it a point to switch completely to the analog stick because of how movement works in this game. The dpad is probably faster to do the left to right motion require for wall hopping, but it's at the cost of accidentally hitting up and down (which is very easy to hit on the dpad).

If you're in the air and are holding right and down on the dpad  your character will make no forward movement. This creates the possibility of really messing up your wall hops.

I've just recently gotten about as fast on the analog as Iwas on the ddpad, but it took some time. The consistency I get now though, definitely worth it.

I think that's definitely a personal preference thing.  If I had to try and be objective about it, I'd say Analog stick?  Because, depending on the stick anyway, you'd only have to tilt the stick a little to get it to register a direction.  However,  the way I hold an Analog stick makes me much more likely to hold directions in a slight diagonal.  With the pad, I can ensure that I'm only pressing left or right.
Just posting to say that I'm also going to be unable to make the race this Sunday.  Family dinner for Easter and all that.
I also won't be able to make it tomorrow. Family is coming over for Easter, lmao, though I have been working on a Guac-related side project. I found the save folder for Guac and have been making saves at certain points so that I can practice sections of the game. I'm gonna finish that up tonight, and then I'll link what saves I've gathered, but for anyone else who wants to do this, you'll find the saves in your Steam folder under userdata. From there, you'll want to select your UserID (should be a string of numbers), then head to the '214770' folder, then under that you'll head to remote. save.dat is the save file. My filepath for the save folder looks like this: D:\Steam\userdata\24681300\214770\remote.

Anyway, all you gotta do is copy the save at wherever you wanna practice, then whenever you wanna practice a section, delete the save.dat that's in the folder and make a copy and rename another save to save.dat. I'm at work right now, but when I get off, I'll upload what saves I have and share them here.
