Quote from LotBlind:
Speaking of audio, what happened to game sounds?

Gothic 1 tends to crash a lot, if the sound is activated. For example the game often can't find a sound file and instead of not playing it, it simply crashes. The very end is especially bad, because as you walk to the last priest you have what feels like an 80% chance of crashing.

Quote:
an idea of what you're doing and why. Why you need those priests dead, what items you're picking up etc.

The ultimate goal in this game as in many others is to defeat the final boss. However you don't defeat him by attacking him, but by piercing the 5 hearts of the undead priests that they sacrificed to him. (The scene where I open the 5 shrines and drive a sword into them at the very end of the video.)
Each heart must be pierced with the corresponding sword that the priests carry with them.
Every other part of the story is skipped. I just enter the final dungeon, kill the 5 priests and pick up each of their swords from their inventory and then I defeat the final boss.

In terms of items I pick up 3 magic scrolls from a chest on the surface and some potions to be able to use them.
The 2 transformation scrolls are used to get past two barriers that otherwise would take a lot of time to get past.
The fire arrow scroll is used to lure the 4th priest into the trap (the big spike trap).

But yeah the way the game is being broken to pieces makes it injudicious not to at least briefly contemplate that there had to be hacks. I know there aren't, but that's the level it's on.

This will look tame in comparison to the segmented one. Cheesy
Ah yeah I was gonna mention that it's very smooth for an RTA. The route is ridiculously simple too.

You think so? I'm not sure, if I should submit or not. The 20s mistake at the first priest is pretty noticeable.
Well ok it was difficult to tell what was intentional because of the massive glitching. Are the other skips and glitches particularly difficult to perform? That sort of thing is taken into account in verification, but it is well possible for a run this short to get rejected for such a 20s mistake.

Hey guys,

i did a glitchless any% run of Gothic1 recently and finished in 1h 55min. I´ll probably upload it soon. I´m just not sure if sliding down hills backwards (which is
much faster) counts as a glitch (I just use it one time ;P) .
If you used moving while the game is paused, I'd say it's a glitch, but glitchless is hard to define anyway and nobody cares if it's just once. Looking forward to it.
You may also make a thread here: http://forum.worldofplayers.de/forum/forums/98-Gothic-Diskussion
It's German, but it's the biggest Gothic forum and you're allowed speak English there.

I submitted this, so if you can verify, please do.

Awseome run with interesting strats i didn't know before. Doing real-time runs of gothic can be really annoying, as you can die so easily.
Maybe I'll try a glitchless real-time run in the future, wich would be around 2h and 15min, but for now you can watch my segmented run, if you like to :D.

So yeah "glitchless" is hard to define, because between the definitely intented white area and the definitely a glitch black area, there is a huge area of all kindes of gray, but your decisions are weird. Some comments about glitches in your run:
- sliding backwards. Imho this is pretty clearly not a glitch just because it is faster than forwards. It's like jumping being faster than walking.
- taking out your weapon to run past guards. This is as dark gray as it gets imho. A difference can be made depending on whether these guards actually want to stop you or not. Like running past the guards in the New Camp isn't really an issue, because it's just an optional dialogue, but you couldn't have gotten to Scar normally. Instead you could just have taken the weed delivery quest from Cor Kalom and gotten inside with only a bit of time lost.
- leaving the barrier. I don't think it's okay to do this. The game clearly wants to keep you inside no matter how poor of a job it does at doing so.
- multiple hits from one strike. On the last priest you did at least one strike which hit twice. This is hard to avoid so I actually lean towards accepting it, but it's definitely a glitch.
- chaining jump to get up slopes and jumping while falling from a ledge. I assume you intentionally never did it?
- leaving chests with ^. This doesn't seem like a glitch at all to me.

Now generally about the run: I think it's okay. It's better than TheWonderer's and the general route seems good to me. Learning acrobatics and changing to strength are good changes. Sadly many easy time savers are ignored, it seems TheWonderer's run is the only reference you had (and in this context it'd call the run good) and you left several obvious mistakes in the run.
Some things you could improve: Window animations can be diabled in the options menu, dialogue options can be selected with the 0-9 keys, you don't need Tarrok's information about the trophies you need to bring him. I may be grossly overestimating it, but through tighter execution alone I think at least 10 mins can be saved, though this somewhat depends on what you consider a glitch and how often you want to segment (which is in itself a problem because it resets monster AI).

About glitchless real-time: I think this would actually be more interesting, because there never has been such a run. Though the biggest problem is crashes. I only avoided this by turning off sound effects, which isn't nice for the viewer obviously (and more so if the video is 2h long). I don't know how good the sound patch is in this regard.

If I haven't scared you off now, I'm currently working on a Gothic glitched segmented run: https://forum.speeddemosarchive.com/post/gothic__13min.html
It's open to ideas and segments from anyone.^^

Hi,

thanks for the comments, I think they will help me alot with my future gothic runs (wasn`t scared off at all :P).

Maybe I will improve the segmented run in some time but for now I will focus on doing real  time.
I´ll leave the sound on and hope not to die along my way, but I have to reload in the stonefortress where the harpys are. Thats  the only part of the game where it crashes everytime if I don't reload.

For the rest I just hope it doesn't cash during the run.

I finished the testrun for G2 Classic.

Though I wanted to do it without cheats there are 3 spots that aren't legit:
- The beginning after leaving Xardas' tower. I already had leaving the tower filmed, so I didn't do it again. There's a small inconsistency in the position of the hero.
- Killing Cassia. Rain of fire needs to hit her twice to kill her. This happens very rarely. The rest of the segment is easy so I just lowered her health.
- The inventory at the end. I was stupid, when the demon was killing the undead dragon. I dropped the mana potions and equipped fireball in an unfilmed segment.

These are the things that caused me trouble/are bad:
- The descent at 7:00. I should be more risky here.
- Money. Lutero again had 12 speed potions instead of 6. I don't know what causes it, but it seems to be determined when you get into his AI range. I had an idea I thought was pretty clever. I didn't open Diego's bag so I would just buy as many potions as I could and then still have 2000 gold for Torlof left. He wants 2500 gold though, so I was short of money at the end. I opened his bag one more time, which wasted time. Since I enter his range in the difficult rain of fire segment I may not have the luxury of choosing whether he has 6 or 12 potions. But if I buy Zuris' mana potions one by one instead of 50 at once, I should have enough money either way.
- Lutero. I couldn't talk to him through the fence. Maybe I should sleep until noon or evening instead of morning. But I'll see if that creates problems elsewhere first.
- The last Seeker. On my way back to the ship I attacked a seeker with a fireball. It is possible to run past him without using it, but it is very risky and I just got too frustrated considering it was just a testrun. I'll skip the fireball in the final run though, because it also saves a mana potion.

It is very unoptimized. I left obvious mistakes in, didn't use many edge glitches and didn't use a mouse. It's faster than the run with the addon though, which I didn't expect. Give your input before I start filming the run for real. Smiley

EDIT: Damn, the last 36 seconds are missing for soem stupid reason. Fixing it atm. Fixed.
I really like the jump at 1:53. Keep up the good work. Haven't had the time to view the whole run yet but I really like the fact that you are playing the old gothic titles.
As a german player myself who played gothic 1 as a kid, the idea to speedrun g1 crossed my mind several times Cheesy

Btw: you got the current 100% run on G1, what about an any% run? Why did you prefer the 100%?

I am working on any% (about 40s finished). But right now I am at a segment I literally tried thousands of times already. And after that I need to be able to move OoB, which seems to depend of the Windows version. I think I'll need to install Windows XP or use a virtual machine with XP.
I also have a RTA any% and I once made a segmented any%, but it was very low quality and got improved by TheWonderer very quickly and I want sth better than that now.^^

I hope this will finally be it.
part 1: 0.000 (I open the menu on the first frame and am already turned)
part 2: 3.800
part 3: 34.000
-
total: 37.800
I am a walrus
I have Gothic 2 since i was a kid.
Never legitimately beat it though ;O.
Might get around to messing with it.
Chapter 2 is started.

The total is now 2:19.000

The next part will take a while. It's the first 5 min. segment and pretty hard too.
The total is now 3:22.800.

Well that part did take a long time (but more so because I finished G1 before). Not perfect but okay.
I just wanted to say that this is awesome and i'm wainting for more !
Hey guys, i've looked through the forum and couldnt find any thread about gothic 3......and also in this thread here nobody seems to be running it (or even mentioning it).
Any reasons for that? I havent played the game, but i recently found it lying around at my parents house, and thought that i could maybe speedrun it.
