Since a lot of ideas was spread about the end of the marathon (and some during), I think it would be a good idea to document them down now so we can look up the info for next year.

Basically, this thread is for the following:

1. What games were really enjoyable this year and should be in another marathon?
2. What games were missing and should be in next year's marathon?
3. What games were going to be in this year's marathon but were cut?

I don't have a lot of suggestions at this point, though I would like to see Kirby's Epic Yarn put back in for next year.  I would also like to have a rematch with Satoryu on Dracula X Chronicles - but this time, head to head on Best Ending.

And being able to get people for a 4P any% run of Kirby and the Amazing Mirror would be epic too. Tongue

If Kirby's Epic Yarn is wanted next year, I'd volunteer to run/race. I can, of course, do Enter the Matrix, but I know nobody cares. Tongue

I'd watch Enter the Matrix!

I thoroughly enjoyed Kingdom Hearts 2 this year, so it'd be awesome to have it next year! If Axel Ryman is up for it of course (or anyone else for that matter).

A four-player Amazing Mirror run would indeed be absolutely incredible... but is it actually possible?  I'm also in favour of seeing Kirby's Epic Yarn next year.  It's not a particularly difficult or skip-heavy game though, but it might be good for relaxing?  In a similar vein of recent Nintendo "co-op" platformers, maybe New Super Mario Bros Wii?

I also know that there's lots of Mega Man games that get run anyway, but I'd like to see one or two of the less obvious and beloved Mega Man games get a run next year (4/5/6, X5/6/8 [I'd never ask X7, that'd just be too painful], maybe one of the Zero series this time?).

Would it also be impossible to get a full ActRaiser race next year (Full game, not Professional mode)?  I think that'd be awesome, personally, and was a little disappointed to realise it was missing all the town development.  And speaking of races, bring back the Marble Madness race next year!

Finally, there were also a lot of jokes - and a bonus after-marathon - about a "Poverty Stream" of games of... less than awesome quality.  Maybe a section of the marathon could be dedicated to bad games (or games that just have a really bad reputation)?
Everybody's favorite monster
Banjo-Kazooie race

so pro u don't even know
Adelikat from tasvideos.org said he wants to race me in mtpo next year.

Also, 2 player Double Dragon II run  can be done by myself and either jprophet22, DK28, or Heidman, all of whom said they are interested. Or the absolute sickness of a race between two teams of two.

I would not mind seeing more NES Ninja Gaiden (1 and 2).
I got some surprisingly good responses when I mentioned Yoshi's Story, so I could do that. I could do Chameleon Twist as well but I'm sure no one would want to watch it.
Waiting hurts my soul...
It'd be good to know if the discussion about having a mini-marathon in the summer this year is going to happen, and continue to be during the summer. Also, it was suggested this summer be a test of off-site runners. Maybe when Mike is better rested he'll discuss that more officially on the forums.
I'd be willing to test an off-site run of VVVVVV, heck if you guys have a summer mini-marathon, I would do my best to come actually, as I don't take classes summer semester and am much more free to travel.
Sonical!
I could run Sonic Advance as Sonic or Knuckles, or race mike89 as either if he decided to dust the game, too.

I approve of a mini-marathon in the summer as well.
My name is unpronounceable
Both of these were highly requested in the chat: Shadow of the Colossus, and Demon's Souls.

The former I know isn't marathon material, but the latter may have some potential.  IIRC it was Thanatos that made our SS.  Perhaps he might be willing to do something with it?

Katamari Damacy was really awesome, though more people need to learn the songs.  I think it'd be fitting for We <3 Katamari to be in the next *adjective* Games Done Quick.

Chameleon Twist!?  ALL RIGHT!!!

I could tentatively suggest Final Fantasy 5.  Unfortunately, unlike other FF games, the only thing you get to name is the main character, so it's not as good for donations. :/

I saw Jak and Daxter and Ratchet and Clank mentioned in the chat.

I doubt a full game race would be possible, but if I can make it to the next marathon, I would like to tag team a full game.  I am going to plan the fastest route for the simulation.
from red to blue
paper mario and the thousand year door. I'll get to it.
For the next year, I'd really like to see:

Donkey Kong Country Returns
Sonic CD
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Kirby Epic Yarn
Zelda: Wind Waker (Maybe as the big, 6 hour game)

Also, if I decide to come back next year, I could do Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire.
Games that fanboys go crazy for would be bound to rake in some cash.  SM64 fit the category, but an FF VII run would be even better.

I'd like to see Sonic 3D Blast, but I think I am the only one.

Yes, I understand that for normal gameplay it's Kirby's Easy Yarn, but it's actually a very interesting game to run and to watch run. I'm almost done with a segmented run, and I'm sure everyone will be pleasantly surprised. I'll be practicing for a single-segment after that, so I think I'd be fairly well-equipped for a marathon run this time next year.

Nope, I'd like to see Sonic 3D Blast get done as well.  Heck, I'm game for running it at the mini-marathon.  Mind you, I own the Genesis version.

1. What games were really enjoyable this year and should be in another marathon?

-Can't go wrong with Super Mario Bros., but let's have a race next time.
-Super Mario 64 should be next marathon, but maybe BLJ-less and not 120 star.
-Megaman race!
-Ninja Gaiden was nice, but we should have 2 or 3 next time.
-Myst was too short, and it might be neat to have it or a similar game run (without skipping to the end) -- maybe
-I liked the race of Ocarina of Time -- it needs more than just than just RBA.
-Super Metroid = win, 100% next time? -> more win (for me at least)

2. What games were missing and should be in next year's marathon?

-Startropics would be good.
-I've seen Jiano play through Pokemon Snap pretty well -- that might be quirky fun and satisfy some Poke-fans
-Action 52: You KNOW you want it
-It'd be cool if UltraJMan did a LaMulana run (PC, Wii, his choice)
-I'd like to see Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3
-Super Mario Galaxy this time...
-Quake this time >_>
-Donkey Kong 64
-hmm, I suppose New Super Mario Bros. Wii should be in the marathon...
-I think also Twilight Princess might be a candidate, to diversify Zelda
-I don't mind either way, but I'll put out Super Paper Mario, dunno though...

That's it for now...
Pokemon Snap is probably a really good idea actually, just because the marathon could use more Pokemon games. Yellow was the most viewed run in the marathon, but unfortunately there aren't that many short Pokemon games, which is why Snap would fit so well. If there's another short Pokemon game I can't think of it right now.
I saw games like Half-Life and Quake being requested a lot in the chat. Maybe next year, we could integrate more PC games into the marathon. In fact, I think that's what a few people were suggesting. If that's the case, I could definitely do the first two Call of Duty games if there's enough interest. Smiley

You can't in good faith do a run of Myst without skipping to the end, as the game consists entirely of discovering keys to puzzles that eventually lead you to the final discovery of the page (and the choice of book). It would be kind of silly to travel to the location where you discover each key, "look" at it, and move on. A Riven run would make more sense, since it was designed to be more linear, and you can't simply go do the ending.

Personally, I don't think this is popular enough to make up for the fact that it's a pretty boring autoscroller.

I like the idea of a summer marathon.  I don't think I'll ever have time to attend Magfest-correlating ones.  By the way, maybe it could be a west coast marathon??

If I ever attended one of these, I'm not sure I'd have anything interesting to run, though, if we weren't doing a 'crappy games' marathon.  The only exceptions being Condemned or Toejam and Earl.
