Seriously though you think the music quality is bad? Have you guys even owned a NES in your time?

Of course, but that's not the point. I wasn't trying to be rude at all. Just being honest as said already ^^

It's just that when you did a game you loved with some music quality, and there's another version of it with same music but in poor quality, you'd better watch the great quality one. And more when original musics are beautiful as on FF8, and on a 8+ hours run. That makes big difference for me as a viewer.

But hey, seems like i'm the only one disturbed with that, so no problem. I just wish that someone will make a psx run anyway, so i watch it. Wasabi is still on it, no ? Smiley
o.O
i dont really care if its pc or ps^^

music sucks anyways, i always listen to my own music when i play, so it wont really matter to me =)

(only exeption i can think of is Lufia II)

NES music is simply classic. You can't hate it. Cheesy

Ever played Hydlide? The music is impossible to like.
Dum die dum
I never really played the PSX version so I guess I have nothing to compare to.

My next segment involves getting the Quistis card real quick, which is kinda troubling with just the basic card set and cards you gained from bosses.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

Stick to RE4 <_<
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i have decided to make just a regular speed run with just no junction i'm leveling up a little
Alan, just do a regular speed run.

Anything else in an RPG is restricted play.
Dum die dum
A normal run first, then you can always think of strange styles. I'm totally bored out of my mind with getting the Quistis card within a normal timeframe so bah. Tongue

Question

HOW MUCH LONGER?
(I hope it is a easy question)
Dum die dum
Pretty damn long, there seem to be several people toying with running it, and it takes a long time to get good times on the random elements like if the Quistis Groupies play with the Quistis card. At the moment no one has even met Rinoa (that is doing a pure speed run) I think, so yes a LONG time.

So, maybe, also an easy question: why it has to be so top-notch? I would like to see a perfect run, but there is not such a thing! So, maybe, why do not make a pretty run, with some little fractures and imperfections. But this will be the run, on base which next, better, run can be done. And more: it will be a run that everyone can see.
(and a reason to speed up with the current runs)
I would think, because a 'pretty run' would still require a hell of a lot of effort.  After doing that 'pretty run' they would have to put all that effort in again into doing the run they themselves know they are capable of doing.

So effectively your asking them to double their workload, have there names attached to a run that is not upto their own standards, and waste their time, doing two runs of the same game.

And why?  Because some impatient watcher wants the run right now?  Why do you not try running this game if you can not wait?

I am not good at speed runing games, that is why I am only a watcher.
Secondly, I do not want to see a run done especially for me. I prefer to think, that there are some runs done already. But they are sleeping on HDD, because they have flows. For my reason - the planning of such a perfect run, as this FF8, where every single item is important, must have some beta-try-versions. So I wondered, if some of THIS RUNS may be posted. I thought, that there can be good run already done, but postponed for a better version (where better is a few minutes in comparison to ~9hours of time of a game). If there is no such a run, then I will not request for quickening the runs.

More over - I want to see the runs for the pure fun from watching. Even beta-versions on YT.
I will knock you all down!
If this run is anything like my FFVII run, it could take up to three more years to finish. In other words, you just have to be patient Cheesy

Maglok: Are you planning to upload the segments to Youtube? It would be nice to see what this run looks like.

Bzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Headshot XD

I just assumed, than maybe there are complered runs already. And the fight is for minutes. So few years for few minutes is a patience deal Cheesy
King of hearts
Actually this run would've been done a long time ago if it weren't for some fucked up mistakes I made.  That run was close to perfect, very 'pretty.'  Hell, the only reason I said I'm trying to improve it in the title is because since I was doing it again I might as well try some stuff like getting 5 Fish Fins in one battle, shortening names, and that one Rinoa sequence break.  I can only imagine that it'll save about 4 or 5 minutes, which is nothing for an 8+ hour run.  I would've been satisfied with it and left it as it was, and maybe move on to trying to speed run another game.

But now I'm stuck here in limbo because I'm no longer motivated enough to pick up the run again, and at the same time I feel incomplete if I never actually complete it.  Just remembering how much effort I put into the run at the time is intimidating me now, and I can't just make a run that's worse than my first one.  My card battles were flawless, I had a good set of very few random encounters, hell I even turned off my Renzokuken indicator during the Pandora attack and did it just by memorization for the rest of the game.  Shit was SO cash.

tl;dr
I just wish I had the motivation to pick it up again.

My run isn't nearly as good as your FF7 run Gargland. I would upload some choice bits, if I actually knew how to convert my fraps footage atm. Those files are in the gigs. I haven't looked into it yet.

As for why I want it to be good instead of pretty, FF8 is quite a long game and if we don't do everything we can to minimize the time there is no way it will be within 8 hours and I would rather have a time up @ SDA for the game. I'm also not the best runner ya see, but indeed I'd like to see a base time. I recall someone did a FF7 PC version as well to just set a baseline.

Btw, question Garland. The time conversion between PC and PAL, etc. for FF7, would that apply to FF8 as well? If so we can have some more detailed times.
God, nobody gets the 8 hour rule, do they? 8 hours is only a soft limit.

I guarantee you an FFVIII run will get up if it's under 10 hours.

Also, you can convert your footage via Windows Movie Maker if you wish to place it on YouTube.

Crap on a stick. I replaced my Radeon videocard with a NVidia card last weekend and now my graphics have big black blocks everywhere. Yes that is including the geforce patch thing.

This greatly annoys me, anyone know how to fix?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
8 hrs has to be a soft limit isn't okami and one of the GTA games 9 hrs? plus with the interest this game has generated theres been what 1000 posts almost, this run will go up and my guess is that it will be around the 8:30-9 hr mark which is plenty short enough.

off topic i know that many people are doing this on pal vrs ntsc and we have already talked about the timing differences but im curious how will that effect which runs are posted, do they separate the runs in the same way that PC and PS runs are separated?

Set the game to Software Rendering and run with compatibility for Windows 95? =p

Worse comes to worst you could go back to your Radeon card. Or play the PS1 version =p
Dum die dum
Software rendering? You gotta be joking, that really is not an option. Also going back is out of the question.

This is quite annoying! Almost as annoying as trying to win the Quistis card with the base set + Ifrit.
