Set the game to Software Rendering and run with compatibility for Windows 95? =p

what is software rendering and how do i set the game to software rendering and who uses windows 95 these days?

Quote:
Worse comes to worst you could go back to your Radeon card. Or play the PS1 version =p

he prolly doesnt have the ps1 version because if he had he had used that because it had better musick

This is quite annoying! Almost as annoying as trying to win the Quistis card with the base set + Ifrit.

it's much easier if you take the zell card from zell's mom first. you didn't take it? zells mom is easy to win but the quistis girls are harder

fool you should have taken it

i dont mean you are a fool im just joking you know
but now its not a joke anymore because i revealed it
but if i hadn't told you you might have gone mad at me

the quistis girls... who can understand girls
they just...... mess around with you
who cares anyway.... they're just girls
why would i need them

when you skip the GFs in the beginning quistis says: you are forgetting your GFs (girlfriends). the guy already has several girlfriends, and then quistis and rinoa too

shit....

Uhm...Software Rendering is an option that bypasses use of your video card in order to render the game's graphics. The graphics will be shittier, but it will eliminate the graphical error caused by Maglok's video card, hopefully, as the game won't utilize his video card.

Software Rendering option is in FFVIII Config app.

Also, nobody uses Windows 95. I never said they use Windows 95. However, people PLAY old Windows 95 games like ohh, idk... FFVIII? That's why you right click on the .exe, hit properties, go to compatibility, and run it in compatibility mode for Windows 95 to get Windows XP/Vista to produce a simulated Windows 95 environment for the software.
Dum die dum
I have not had a good point to get the Zell card from his mom where I don't need to do 10+ minutes over if I don't get it first time. I am tempted (if my graphics get fixed) to get the Diablos card first then go back for Quistis. I dunno, atm graphics more important.

Would it be faster to get the Quistis card that early? =p

You need Time-RF to get those Triples, right? Isn't Enc-Half and Enc-None a bigger priority for Diablos? I'm pretty sure you won't get Time-RF very early on in Disc 1 either.
Dum die dum
Your right actually yes, my level plan for Diablos is:

Diablos
Enc-Half (30)
Enc-None (100)
Time Mag-ref (30)
ST Mag-ref (30)
HP-J (50)
Total: 240

Though I will probably swap the ref with Enc-None. That depends then on when to get the card.

For sure I will get Zell before I leave with the train. I will have Diablos by then so Ifrit and Diablos + 3 crap cards against Zell's mom, doable. With a save right in front of town.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
is it just me or does it take a insane amount of time for zells mum to use that damn card every time i have played the game it took so long for her to actually use it
Dum die dum
It's actually random so it can take a long time or it could be the first game. If she uses it in the first... I think three games, it should be fast enough. Of course you can perfect it, but trust me at one point your just so annoyed you will take a Zell card on the third game.

No luck with the graphics yet.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
oh believe me i know it annoys me getting that damn card when i am playing the game normally let alone trying to speed run it, i dont know about the randomness of the cards though, like for example i have finished the game so so so many times and edea has always used her card the first time even though random is in effect
Dum die dum
Some cards have specific rules. All cards except GFs and Chars are random for sure.

Then there are the GF cards you recieve when you complete bits of the game, like the ifrit and diablos cards.

There are a few special ones like Pupu.

You know that of course. The other's are all pretty random I think off the top of my head. Though the 'random' rule really doesn't affect the computer. The computer always randomizes the cards it picks, thus the 'random' rule only realyl screws you over. Smiley
Dum die dum
No luck so far, I have made a screenshot anyone any more clue now?

Je bent zelf een paars dekentje met gouden randje!
I had a similar problem on my old P III 800 with a GeForce (can't remember the type) 32 MB card. Reinstalling the DirectX to the OLDER version solved the problem for me...
Otherwise..... Good Luck!
Software rendering <_<
You probably can't get it to work properly with that card (unless some new info has come out in the last ~6 months).

The fact is that Geforce4+ chipsets just do not support the 8-bit textures (or palettized textures) used by that game and they lose the transparency info when transforming them. At least the last time I looked, there wasn't a way to emulate the behaviour needed, so it's either software rendering (which actually looks ok with hi-res fonts) or black bars.

[For non-speedrunning purposes getting hold of the PSX version and running it with epsxe is vastly superior solution.]
Dum die dum
It is true that the 8 bit paletted textures were failed on configuration, but that also happened with my Radeon.

I am really iffy with software rendering. Even if it is a old game it will eat my CPU quite a bit and putting FRAPS activity over that... I dunno. I guess it's test running time.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
is there a reason that you cannot play the PS version? from what i have seen it is not that hard or expensive to get on ebay
Yeah, FFVIII is actually the least valuable of the FF games on the PSX from what I can tell =p
more keys then pablo escobar
loading times? im sure it must be much quicker on pc...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
but loading times make no difference cause a PS run and a PC run will be in seperate sections anyway

Not really.

Because of the huge length of the games, the PC FFVII run can be obsoleted by a comparable time on the PSX version iirc.
Dum die dum
I just don't have a PSX or anything that can play it. Also I have always played PC so. Smiley
I love SDA!

I love SDA!
This should fix the "black box" problem:

Plus there's this post explaining how to tweak the game such as improve the sound quality:

Dum die dum
Now this I find very interesting. There are some things there I already know about, but some stuff I didn't. For example I am already running with images, it just avoids the hassle of CD switching all the time.

I am also a amateur (computer) musician so I know quite a bit about soundfonts. I just didn't know how to get a better soundfont library to work with FF8.

The resolution change looks interesting, but not changing that since I got the rest recorded in basic resolution at the moment.

This brings me to two questions:
1. Am I even allowed to use a custom launcher, for SDA?
2. Am I allowed to boost the sound quality? For SDA that is.

Anyone know? Your not changing gamecode, but you are playing it in a way that adds stuff that is not official. Then again art and sound are not going to change the gameplay and loading times are like zero anyways.
Dum die dum
I have successfully used a different soundbank to make the music sound 'better' and closer to the PSX version.

I have not touched the graphics yet, since those actually require me to run a custom launcher, while the music does not.

Where would I ask if using a custom launcher just to fix my display issues is allowed?
