I've been working with BrutalAl on testing this glitch, so I can confirm it works. Yes, it's hard to pull off and you need to know exactly what you're doing, but it's possible.

And before anyone asks, I'm not going to do a speed run with this glitch, as it would drive me more crazy than my current run already has. I'll let someone with a lot more patience than me take care of that. Besides, it wouldn't be a true speed run, exploiting such a big glitch.
Trying to get a battle on the exact frame as you leave a field on console would be very hard and extremely luck reliant. The only way to truly know exactly what axis units you're on is to read the ram and that's not a possibility on console.

*sigh* Whatever.  If it's not an april fool's joke, good on you, but for god's sake be more responsible with your post timing.  If it is, you've gotten a good laugh at my frustration.  Either way, I apologize for my rudeness.

I seriously need to stop getting worked up over stupid shit...
1st of April has come to an end in my time zone and with that I declare the video to be a prank (because that is what it is).

A series of Notes concerning the posts in this thread though:
- Of utmost importance; Apart from my original post I was telling the *truth* in every post thereafter (unless I've slipped up somewhere, and if so, sorry).
- Rakuen, even if this had been a real glitch you would in fact not have gotten it to work Tongue (simply because of the axis units mentioned in previous posts).
- Skullboy, no the game would not throw a fit when loading the wrong Cinema and crash. In fact the game works perfectly fine (with few exceptions) even if you have the wrong disc in, all that happens is that you see the wrong FMV during FMVs.
- Skullboy again, why would the PC version be optimal, wouldn't an emulator with frame advance be better? Besides, warping from one field to another field on the PC version actually works a tad bit different than on the PSX versions.
- Arrow, (directed to the quote in you post). I don't know who you've quoted but he's just full of... incorrectness, warping across disc would work just fine and the Jenova fight has nothing to do with Aeris being removed from the party at all (technically speaking of course, not plot-wise :P)

I wonder why I even bother going on the Internet in the 48 hours around April 1.  Well played getting Garland involved in it.

I guess on the positive side, I learned about that battle skip which I'd never done in the past.
I will knock you all down!
I'll admit it, if I hadn't already known, I most likely would have been fooled myself.

Anyway, now that Palmer is put behind, you can expect speed run segments to pop up a little more frequently than every two years from now on. In case you didn't read the video description, I can inform you that this was my very first attempt after I picked it up again. One can wonder, what if I had done one more attempt back then? Maybe I would have finished the run by the date I promised? We'll never know.
I thought it was an April Fool from the very beginning, but I restrained myself from announcing it so it wouldn't ruin the joke.  It was pretty elaborate though, and very well done; gj BrutalAl thumbsup
At least I didn't try testing it myself. I wanted to believe it was true, but even though it sounded like it could have worked, there were still plenty of red flags. <_<

Well someone had to do it.  It's the first time I've ever even tried messing with this game.

It's coming up on 5 years since the first segment, isn't it?  It's got to one of the speedruns that's spent the longest time in production, but it'll be worth it.  Keep up the good work! thumbsup

Moo! Flap! Hug!
BrutalAI, I'm not ashamed at all to admit that I fell for your video hook, line, and sinker (though at least I didn't try to replicate it on a console, heh).  This is one of the most masterful April Fools' jokes that I've ever seen.  Awesome job Smiley

It's been nearly 5 years since I posted it on Youtube, but I actually completed the first segment in September 2006. If we also take the planning into account, we're talking seven years. Almost half the time the game has been out, and 1/4 of my life. Pretty crazy.
The 5 months that I've been working on my Final Fantasy X segmented run don't seem so long now.  Glad to hear that this run is going again Smiley

BrutalAI: What I meant by the game freaking out by the wrong cinema was that the game might try to load a cinema on a disc that doesn't have the same amount of cinemas (3 definitely has less then 1 or 2). I have seen the game bug out and hang or crash afterwords. Granted, this is after using the Debug Room, which causes the game to be really unstable. When I said PC was more optimal for FFVII I meant SDA running and not TASing. I should have been clearer. Nice April Fool's Joke though. Maybe the joke will become reality one of these days.

Keep it up GarlandG!

Glad the Palmer segment wasn't an April Fools joke. Wink

Looking forward to more GarlandG FFVII goodness!
So no one noticed that the time (which he explicitly told you to take notice of) was 4:01:12 and the gil was 40,112?

Oh, rub it in Smiley
Make it so.

You must be making that up, no wa... Oh that's good. Kudos for that one.
Haha, I actually didn't notice that one, even though I still knew it was a joke anyway.

Brutal had said that the new standard was four hours and so seeing four hours on the save made sense to me though I was skeptical.

Just be aware that this run requires so much luck, patience and perfection that it might take a year to complete. It might even take days before I get to the first save point.

Yep.

Just stopping by to let you know that I'm slowly working on the next segment and that I hope to complete it some time next week. It's luck reliant, but I'm doing the Flapbeat battle before the Gold Saucer, so it's pretty much one attempt every two minutes.

Hey guys, long time lurker here and looking for some advice from the FF7 gods. Me and my friend just started playing FF7 again after about a year hiatus and we're trying to do some HDINS runs. We just started our first practice run and it was going great (albeit with a few mistakes) up until Demon Wall (I know, right!?).

We have actually been saving just to get a playthrough of the game to understand what we need to do. But the whole fight against Demon Wall is just requiring too much luck. I've been taking advice from Garland's and Absolute Steve's guides and while we did beat Demon Wall eventually, it took about 15-20 tries with a lot of luck. Any advice for getting through Demon Wall without relying on luck?

I prefer the idea of single segment running because I just don't have the patience to do something like Garland is doing. Would love to put a great HDINS run together but fear that Demon Wall could be a pain.
Professional Second Banana
If you want to guarantee that you can beat Demon's Gate without relying on luck, I'd recommend fighting about 10 random battles on the Wutai continent after getting the Tiny Bronco (enough to get Cloud up to level 24); and either buy a Barrier materia at Rocket Town or learn the Big Guard enemy skill from the Beachplugs near Cosmo Canyon.  The extra levels + being in the backrow + Tranquilizers + having a physical barrier keep you pretty safe even if Demon's Gate spams Rock Drop over and over.

I've got a successful Demon's Gate fight with pretty bad luck in my TwitchTV archives at http://www.twitch.tv/puwexil/b/298126936 if you want to see how I do it, though since that recording I've started giving Tifa the Long-Range materia and using regular attacks instead of Deathblows.
Just watched your video there, thanks alot puwexil! Me and my friend have also found a few things that are probably well known around these parts that helped us avoid dealing with luck. We also picked up Long Range and even got the Aqua Ring for dealing with Jenova-Life (which was well worth the 10 seconds to pick it up!).

I know lolo has done it in 9:08, is there a video or a guide he has written that documented his run, or can most of that be found in this thread? I look forward to watching you play a single segment run puwexil, will definitely check out your other videos on Twitch!
