I wonder if I'll ever actually finish my psx run for this game.:-p

Damn schizo.

Word.
And it's finished.

The luck was not with me last night. The strategy in the FAQ requires that Shadowflare miss... I spent 7 hours on it last night, getting to that point 12 times. On the 12th attempt (around 1 AM) Shadowflare finally missed. I finished the battle, only to not have done enough damage... I must have been within 300 HP to killing him, and I killed him right after using Magic Breath, but it cost 10 or 12 seconds... so I didn't accept the attempt.

This morning, I got up and got ready for work... I had about 45 minutes extra (I tried to get ready fast, so I would have the extra time), and so I made a few attempts at the final segment. I was able to get in 5 or 6 attempts, all failures (only 2 of them got to the final bosses, and only 1 made it to shadowflare, which hit Cloud). I looked at my watch, to see if I could afford to make another attempt... it was like 8:35, and I needed to leave at 8:50 or so, so I figured, sure, I can make another attempt. It was successful. Shadowflare missed Tifa, and I used Magic Breath instead of an S-Mine, to make sure I would do enough damage. As Sephiroth was falling away, disintigrating, I was jumping up and down for joy. I finished the text skipping, defeated Sephiroth, and then finished getting ready for work while the credits rolled. I had to wait for the credits to end before I could leave for work though. The recording was a little over 30 minutes, so I ended up leaving for work at 9:10, and I was supposed to be here at 9:00. I don't care though... because it's over.

I didn't get a chance to time the final battles yet, I'll do that tonight while I burn the segments to disk. If Mikwuyma gets back to my e-mail (I will send it to him him around 2:00 when my wife gets home from work, so she can send me the comments, so I can send them to him) by tonight, I will be able to send the disks out tommorow morning.

I have to say congratulations again.
I will knock you all down!
I've already said congrats on Gamefaqs, but I might as well say it here to. Congrats, Farringa!

Anyone know how long it takes from he sends it in until it becomes available here?

I believe it depends on the game... It will take a couple days to get there, probably. Then it needs to be verified... Since FFVII is a pretty popular game, it should get quite a few volunteers to verify... But it's a long game, and might take awhile to get all the verifiers to watch and verify it. Then it needs to be encoded, a web page needs to be made for it, etc.

The guys here do quite alot of work. I've never sent in a run before, so I can't tell you how long it normally takes, but I'm sure someone else can... I don't even want to venture a guess, for fear of embarassing myself...
Everything's better with Magitek
Well, my FFIX run took a little over a month after I finished it to be posted.  FFVII is more popular than FFIX, and your run is an hour shorter than mine was, so it might not take as long, but it will still take some time.

I'll also add my congratulations to you, Farringa.  Can't wait to see this!
I will knock you all down!

Keep checking there. Instructions are also there. But you're not supposed to tell anyone you are a verifier, so if you get selected, shhhh.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Hehe i wanted to say congrats on the run hurry and verify ! Cheesy

Speed Run for FF7 is long ... but ... come on, this is FF7. To verify it will take time of downloading and watching Grin One day ... even shorter. The timer at the save point is friendly and helpfull here Grin
I will knock you all down!
The FFIX run is longer Tongue

Farringa: Oops, didn't know about that. I'll make sure to keep my mouth shut  Wink
Long live SF64!
I would guess 2-4 weeks from the time the run gets mailed until when the news post goes up.

That's just a guess of course.  Also remember that if the run is 60 fps with a large resolution (the f1d1 stuff nate talks about) AND it's in a bunch of segments, that increases the time needed to encode the run into low/normal/high qualities.  Though I think nate has said before that 99% of the time, runs wait on verification and not on encoding.  Verification isn't just about watching the run either.  Mike works his butt off to communicate with so many people on a daily basis and a lot of discussion and coordination has to happen behind the scenes to make SDA look like such a well oiled machine.

I think everything fell into place very quickly for Dragorn's 120 star Mario 64 run and that it took 2 weeks.  One month seems to be fairly common for runs on well known games, so that's where my 2-4 weeks guess comes from.

Looking forward to it - I know this game has seen a lot of speedrunning attention over the years and it's great to see a finished product emerge!

Well, I pause before I load each save, and after I make each save, so that it's easy to check for continuity... at first it was to make sure I had the right video when I was done (I kept them pretty well organized, but it was a safety precaution), and then when I got serious about sending in the run, it turned out really well. It shouldn't be very hard to verify, I wouldn't think. Also, the resolution is small... like 320 x 280 or somewhere in that ball park, I think... I had to run it on low resolution, or the game timer is very inaccurate. I think when I converted all the videos to make them smaller, it ended up being 640 x 520 (I don't know the exact resolutions, and the normal ones at that size are escaping my memory), but still, it's not exactly high-res. Tongue Also pretty sure it's at 30 FPS, or around there. So hopefully the encoding shouldn't take too long. I was thinking it would probably be the verification process that would take the longest... so all you people out there waiting to see the run on SDA, volunteer to verify!  Cheesy

Long live SF64!
Be sure you're in communication with nate about your video files.  Several times people have messed up their files by compressing them, putting them in non-SDA formats, etc. causing nate to have to perform a brilliant rescue operation or something.

Of course you probably didn't do anything wrong, but it's in your best interest to hang onto your original video files/discs and communicate with nate or folks in the Tech Support forum about modifying those original video files.

Well, when I first started doing the run, I wasn't planning on sending it in to SDA, so I didn't really care about saving the original files. Howelver, since the files were absolutely HUGE (Camtasia... *sigh*) I wasn't able to save them any way... not by disk, or on my HDD... they were just too big. So everytime I finished a segment, I took the .AVI files, and I put them in Windows Movie Maker, and I just put it in the little strip, did "Save to My Computer" and then put them on the best quality possible. It made an incredible difference in the size of the files, and minor decrease in quality. The run still looks fine, and there are hardly any spots where you would notice, and even if you noticed, it doesn't affect the overall enjoyability of the run at all (the differences that I noticed were really very minor). I had done this for nearly half of the entire run, before I decided I was going to send it in to SDA, and that point, I figured I might as well just keep doing it. So thats where I'm at... So I hope I didn't do something that causes him trouble... :S
Oh, oh...

^^ That doesn't sound encouraging......  :-[
I just run my files through Windows Movie Maker to add a couple of brightness filters. There's extremely little (if any) decrease in quality. tbh I find most of the movie files here at the site to be a bit... dark.
Word.
Have your runs been accepted on SDA, with the adjusted brightness?

And I agree with the very little decrease in quality... Hopefully I havn't damaged the files irreperably. If I have though, then the run was doomed to begin with, because there is no way I would have been able to store the files... Not to mention I had done it for over 3 hours of the game before I even considered sending it in to SDA...
I haven't submitted a run to SDA =X

I'm just a lurker. But one of these days I'll submit something that hasn't been done here already =]

same men, if I can verify it. I will be there Tongue

awsome job
100% runs=great to watch
Guys, don't say that you can verify directly in the thread...it is supposed to fall into the "sneaking mission" category.
Just call me the cynicism machine
Unless you guys have PMed mikwuyma, you won't verify.  Also, blabbing about it in this thread might get you turned away from doing so, for bias purposes.

Yussir.

IF YOU WANT TO VERIFY DO NOT POST IT HERE, ASK MIKWUYMA

The end.
I've been looking forward to this one for a long time. I can't believe it's finally done.  Smiley
