i can understand on the race part. like i said in the first post if it was wanted it be cool. i know my times not that good to do a race with ffgamer... will at the moment. other than that i would prefer to not do a race. i only mentioned it if thats what people want  personally i would like to do a run of any kind of the two games to help out this year.

Star Ocean 3 and Breath of Fire V also both really don't have that much down time, but I don't think anyone else who knows those games is coming.
I want off the ride....

I wrote the boss faq for BoF:DQ on gamefaqs. gone 1/4th and so on... but nope dont know the game.
hey i know mystic quest 100% been done last time but what about any% i be willing to do any% dont really care for racing and since like many people said its bad on rpgs. im just trying to help at least though im new to whole thing. also reason i want to do mystic quest thought it is such a nie game being one of the shortest ffspeed runs next to the ff legends games.
No pain, no gain
People have asked me if I'm coming, so here's the deal. Commencement is on May 2nd or May 3rd. If C4L is during those days, there's not a chance I'll be coming. Sorry. I really want to walk at commencement.

If it's after those days for some weird reason, though, I've got FFIV, and I could see how much we can mess up with the hovercraft pallet swap. Right now, 2:50:00 with name changes and stuff is a good estimate.

Well, would you be interested in learning and racing it?
I concur w.r.t. what everyone said about RPG races: blowouts, RNG instead of skill, etc. The only exception could be sufficiently short (think < ~30 min) and fast-paced RPGs, but even then I think you're splitting the viewers' attention on a game that probably still needs explaining, and I'd still be inclined to say no.

Will return to actual updates in not too long. Trying to get real life back on-track at the moment. Thanks for your patience.
Just finished up watching Duckfist's first(?) live attempt of FF3 no job glitch, and with pretty horrible luck on the first drop, it was still 2:40. And I gotta say, it was pretty entertaining. Some things to note:

The first character name will change by an incremented letter (AAAA to BAAA for example. Or Own to PWN for a much more fun example)
chars 2-4 retain original names, but are corpses for the whole run.
Perhaps an incentive to actually listen to the boss battle theme in its entirety once?

At any rate, I'd vouch for this run, it was great. Worst case scenario it would be a great Sunday morning "happy little tree" of a speedrun to chill to with a mug of coffee
Insanity Prelude
One other game I thought I would mention since I'm currently working on it: Front Mission 3.

I would still rather run WA4 over this since its a game I had more practice with and am much more comfortable running (plus its generally more interesting to watch), but as I've been doing test runs for the game, I've noticed how it has a lot of donation incentives (First name/Last name for Main, Wanzer names, paint jobs for mechs, route/decision choices, etc.). Plus its a game made by Squaresoft. My guess is that its a game that's more well known than WA4 (so there's probably more people to throw commentary around too). The bad news is that its not a very interesting game to watch (all of the battle animation is skipped to reduce time) and it's nearly double the length of many other games listed. My test run right now is clocked at 9 hours and 1 minute with 10 levels left on this particular route. So I think a minimum of 10 hours is an estimate.

Anyway, just thought I would toss that out onto the table.

Awesome, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the praise!  Indeed, it took something like 25 minutes to get that x1 Eyedrops from the Shadows, which is pretty much inexcusable.  I need to go back to working on that part (sigh).  There are a few options.  If I can somehow make it though both Jinn and Big Rat without the 99-items trick, that would be best, since it could be done on the world map after that with 100% success.  The issue is, the first character must be at level 1 in order for it to work, so he has to stay dead.  I don't think there are enough damage items to carry the other 3 members alone through those two bosses without leveling up.  You can get 3 SouthWind (Ice2) and 1 ZeusRage (Bolt2), but I don't think that's enough to take out both Jinn and Big Rat.  Big Rat must be fought while Mini, so spells are the only way to go.  Level 1 spells do pretty much nothing to him, and you can't use second-tier black magic until level 8, so the only other strat I can think of is leveling up the other 3 guys normally so both bosses can be taken out.  In short - I'll work on it.

Also yes, that was my first full run in one sitting, actually.  I agree with the incentives on boss/final boss music - in fact, my least favorite thing about the run is a lack of those tunes.  Overall though, I think (and I'm glad) that people enjoyed the run, even though there was a distinct lack of battles and combat strategy.  The entertainment comes in the audio, visuals, explanation, and tricks.

Also, I plan on getting a translated ROM onto an actual cart so this can be played on the original hardware in English!

The more Breakdown plays and a lot of the interest its bringing out, I wonder how a PSO run would fare out.

Poxnor, just FYI, I'm not listed in the attendee list at the moment. I definitely do plan to attend. (I'm from the US, so I don't add any countries to the list, sadly.) Smiley

(edit) Also, if Metasigma and Rini would be cool with it, I can offer commentary support for Secret of Evermore. Ditto for AlecK47 for Mass Effect.

It might depend on what kind of PSO run it would be. Like any% glitch run would be fun to watch.
Evermore Extrodinare ᕦ(° Д°)ᕤ
Man at this rate Evermore is going to have the entire attendee list for commentary :P. On the topic of that before I start saying yeah or nay to people on that let's see if it even gets in first. If it does I'll go from there.

Let's just have a typical Meta challenge for the commentary seats. Think squattacular revisited. Only the winners are allowed to flex on the couch Wink

Edited for typo.
I suppose I will post this here since I would love to attend and play my favorite game for the marathon. Hopefully, I will be able to pull it off financially and logistically (since my wife and daughter would tag along if everything works out).

Also, (with apologies to Withhelde) I hope I'm not being too presumptuous about offering a game that has already been offered by someone else.

Quote from Withhelde:
Thinking about it, I could also do if Claude is not attend is: Final Fantasy Tactics
- System: Playstation
- Time: 5:00:00 any%, 6:00:00 any% no math skill)
- Classic game that pretty fun to see busted apart. No math run is also viable if you don't want to see everything get Flared and Holy.
- Donations include naming characters and possible decide which run.
- Strats can get quite samey if doing a math run.

I know I'm not Claude, but I've talked to him and he definitely can't make it. He is the current RTA record holder (4:08:12), whereas my best RTA is 4:19:54, which I plan on improving in the near future. I would revise the any% (with math skill) estimate down to 4:30:00 as a worst case scenario. Any% no math skill would be longer, 6:00:00 sounds about right.

From everything that I've seen and read about FFT speed runs, the consensus seems to be that using math skill is much quicker, but much less interesting to the casual viewer, while no math skill is the opposite (slower, but much more interesting to watch). However, I think that either run could be good for a marathon, with good commentary.
Thinker & Dreamer
Yeah, I talked with Claude a lot about it, and he wants to do the no math run for a GDQ and I'll do a math run for C4L.

If you wanna do FFT math (or some other wacky category), feel free to do it, if you are implying that you want to do the run.
Professional Second Banana
It's fine for multiple people to offer the same game - it'll be up to the reviewers Poxnor chooses to decide which runner does it at C4L, or if they think it could work as a co-op/relay run (like FF12 last time).
That's true, Withhelde. I think if any category has the best chance to get into a GDQ, it's Japanese Any% No Math (due to the battle variety and Japanese-only glitches while not sacrificing a lot of time, since I believe a safe estimate for that category may be 4:45:00 to 5:00:00). Maybe Claude can do it for SGDQ 2014?

And yes, I would like to run US Any% Math Skill, since I don't think the extra hour and a half for No Math Skill makes any sense, but maybe we'll leave up to the donators?

And thanks for confirming that puwexil.
Thinker & Dreamer
Umm.. I even said that a no math run is more entertaining, but a math run is much safer; that's why I planned to do a math run for C4L and Claude to do a no math for a GDQ (probably SGDQ2014).
Ha, so you did. I'll learn to read one of these days. Smiley
it be cool to see some co-op gaming. i know one of the 2 i offered can easily be co-oped. but i know im the only person that plays it so far but if a second person wants to join in on it it would be hard since one person would have to know how to get through and the other can be there to help with the run since it can have up to 4 players

The Crystal Bearers has a few co-op sections, and one of the donations will be for who is the 2nd player. I know the Zu descent section at the beginning is one that has it.

hey sir vg the game i offered that can be co-oped is skylanders. if any one else knows the game im up to doing a co-op on it though im willing to do co-op with some one that doesnt know the game since its not hard to learn on the fly. thanks on offering for the co-op but if you want im willing to do any kind of work with you so we can do this.
on a second thought i wouldnt mind learning to do a co-op run on a different game as will.
