Castlevania?
I think jump attacking and doing the 2nd attack on the ground while taking off the weapon to get rid of delay is faster than having to wait on the second jump. Unless you're doing the jump for a reason.
Visually Appealing
I agree. Or at least backdash cancel the second hit.

This is a bit late to be effective, but why didn't you get the Empress Ring before getting the Dominus glyph?
Visually Appealing
I don't think it's necessary when you have the Strength Ring.

Hmm, do you think it's worth redoing because of the canceling? Getting a Blow Ring from the 2nd chest just once already takes about 1000 attempts (I had terrible luck), and I'm really glad I actually got the ring and survived to reach the save point in this attempt, the dinosaurs are a pain. Unless you would reject the run over this, I'd really like to move on. I do usually cover a bit of ground with both jumps, so I don't know if the canceling is even worth it in the end.

Wouldn't they stack?
I can't use more than three rings, and I only need them for bosses (Skeleton Cave is one of the very few areas where I have to kill normal enemies). Since the next boss after the Empress Ring is Maneater, and I already have Strength + Blow x2, I have no use for Empress.
Castlevania?
Ah, I didn't notice the luck attempts for the chests. If that's the case, then you probably don't need to redo it since it's only about 6 seconds (rough estimate) of timeloss.
boss
IIRC in tymeo mountains you can cross the gap between the way to the regular exit and the alternate one with a little boost. This would skip a bit of backtracking.
We tried that some time ago, and I don't think anyone has come even close in real-time, let alone in a speed run setting. I did request a video at the TASvideos forums since I've never even seen how it's supposed to be done, but to no avail.

I didn't expect to get a rare 200G treasure, so shopping was a bit slow and I needlessly sold the Chamomile, but Maneater, Flying Skeletons and Sea Demons were all nice. Since I was able to afford 9 tickets now, I added the warps after Marcel and Rapidus Fio to the route.

I picked up the game again, and am trying out some things differently from your run. I finished the first segment 3 seconds slower than you. There were mistakes, but I also picked up Secare and killed most everything in my way. Cause I have a strong hunch Secare and the extra experience are worth it.

::edit:: Now I'm 2 seconds ahead after Segment 2, probably thanks to killing the Skeletons without stopping.

::edit again:: 4 seconds behind on Segment 3. Big Skeleton was giving me hell, and I just want to get on with this.
Considering you don't have to deal with an awkward and frustrating recording setup, I think I can safely say my segments are good enough. Wink

Also, I just noticed I didn't mention the Reinforced Suit from Somnus anywhere, so I added it to the route.

I never implied otherwise.
Yeah, I just wanted to say that it's good to get some times for comparison.

Also, horrible luck. Haven't seen a single Wind Ring yet, so this might take a while.
I've had this feeling before, but I now think that you can manipulate the rare chest location by hard resetting in Somnus Reef only, assuming SR can't spawn more than one rare chest. This doesn't affect whether the designated chest actually turns into a rare nor the contents, but it does help a lot in SR. Segment 10 only took about 100 tries.

Segment 9

A few minor hiccups, but I got the ring and past the enemies in front of the warp room without dodging or dying, which makes up for that.

When you first go underwater, you could dive kick diagonally. I'd assume that saves a tiny bit of time.

When you absorb a glyph, you should be as close as possible to it so it doesn't take as much time to travel. The difference is marginal, though.

So, I'm a little late to the discussion, but just started watching your run and bought the game. For the first segment, not getting Secare ends up being faster for the boss fight. As Serris had said, the faster attack speed makes up for the damage difference (8 vs 11 at lv2), although it seems to be beneficiary to kill as many things as possible (since you'd slow down sliding through them anyway). I also don't see Secare being of any use in the couple segments after that.

As for zombies, you can always kill them without slowing down, even at lv1. There's a couple quick ways to kill Axe Armors, just use a mismatched special (idk what this attack is called) to kill, or do 2x Confodere then Macir. By including these kills, you can finish segment 2 at level 5, so I think it pays off. Instead of waiting for Mermen in Kalidus Channel, a few of them are easy to kill with 2 Confodere hits. You can also use the mismatched special to kill them, but it's dependent on how many hearts you have (want to get like 45 for the skeleton boss in segment 3).

Good run so far though, everything looks clean and I can tell it's been meticulously planned. The only real gripe I have is that you don't break the candles for hearts, which are useful and cost no time.

Edit: Is there any reason to get the Arthro Medal, or just to show off?
