Has anybody else been playing this?  I have a few ideas, but lacking any way to record DS they will have to be for the benefit of someone who can.

Shanoa normal seems the best place to begin.  In general, the stuff you find along the way is plenty to beat the game with, and bosses give all the exp you'll really need.  With those in mind I came up with a clear time of 1:43:19, although that was without any particular effort or planning.

Land-cancel seems to apply to any weapon glyph, so the "combo" feature is probably unneeded, although you might still use it if you're set up for a weapon union.
Also, you can "cancel" Dominus Agony - if you begin an attack while it's active, and then turn it off, the attack will still be buffed.  It costs 66 hp on activation as well as per whatever time increment, so you still have to use it sparingly.  Mostly, I think this would make its use feasible against Barlowe and probably a few other bosses where you only have ~300 hp - that burns up pretty fast if you just leave Agony active.
As many hp/mp/heart max ups as possible should be collected, since all of these stats apply directly to how fast you can kill.

Laura's third quest is likely the only worth doing, for the option to buy pins and rings for the two most important elements, light and dark.  These are pretty expensive, but there are plenty of tarot-name rings scattered around the game that would otherwise be useless which you can sell for thousands apiece.  Only issue is coming up with a lapis lazuli, which is found in random boxes.

Some notes:
(Any rings that aren't directly useful are noted anyway, for selling.  Probably missed some convenient max ups as well, it's been a little while since I did these.)

also attack during ceiling smash after first phase
lead bubbles to one side, go to the other, do not attack
after first phase, use magnes to avoid bubbles - hold the magnet and "hover" right, then fling left after the bubbles pass (this will provoke the wall smash, do not attack yet)

"de-dt" with dominus agony to not die horribly when using light/weapon union
stealing globus is probably slower than just attacking and avoiding it
for ice spell (he stands on floor), bounce on his head
for fire spell, dive kick through gaps in fireballs
for lightning spell, begin by ducking under him when he casts, dive kick over him, hold down to duck under him at spell end
for teleport thing, jump away - he alternates sides, and lines up horizontally before charge, stand on ground and jump away after he starts charge, ends with "...disciple"

route 16: dracula's castle

equip for int with death ring and judgement ring
attack first form with nitesco - don't jump over him
for fireballs, dive kick off them
for "dark inferno", jump over them (double jump can clear four)
when he goes to center, sometimes this is for "fatal ray" - stand close and attack
on form change (he says something and turns forward), nuke him
and then plotdeath the third form with dominus union
Thread title:
Direct Assault!
I don't think quests are worth it. The Wind Ring is good enough (all the good Unions deal Slash damage anyway) and you can get it from chests in Somnus Reef so it doesn't cost any time.

For Brachyura, get a Zombie Glyph from the Necromancer in Ruvas Forest and use it to deal a little more damage.

For Maneater, Weapon+Ice Union does the most damage.

I don't think Pneuma is worth it, it takes too long to get. Weapon+Light works just as well against Rusalka and Goliath.

Gravedorcus, Weapon+Ice does a lot more damage than Ice+Ice and is much faster as well. Grando is much faster to use than Vol Grando and probably gives more damage over time.

Albus, Weapon+Ice is the best again, no need to use any Dark attacks (they're all too slow).

Barlowe, hug the right wall and he will only use Globus and the fire attack, skipping his slower attacks. Fire attack can be just blocked with a shield. Absorb Globus to restore hearts and use Weapon+Ice Union again. Count how much damage you're doing, once he gets to around half health switch to Light+Dark and spam the Union. It stops time (but not the timer), so you don't give him a chance to use the "Stupid Diciple" attack.

Eligor, Macir+Macir Union does a lot more damage than Nitesco+Weapon.

Dracula, Nitesco+Weapon Union will get rid of all the fireballs. Use Volaticus to fly towards him to interrupt Dark Inferno and the slow attacks in the second phase.

you'd definitely want to check here. there's more NG+ talk than New Game, but there are some things that help. specifically, there's a list of items that aren't too far out of the way. Pneuma, for example, is really out of the way.

i'm not sure about doing any quests. if they're really that expensive, they're probably not feasible. and if they only increase attributes, Drops should be much more convenient.

NG+ is disgustingly easy to run. it's almost not enjoyable, actually.
Direct Assault!
Also, two helpful bugs.

If you level up while transformed the stat boost from the transformation will carry over to Shanoa's base stats, so you keep the bonus even when unmorphed. This lasts until the next level up or until you load the game.

For the other bug, equip any accessories other than the attribute-boosting rings (Wind Ring, Blow Ring, Ruby Ring, etc.). You can equip these rings in one slot, but the other slot must have another accessory. For example:

Slot 1: Wind Ring
Slot 2: Strength Ring

Now select the second slot and scroll over to any attribute-boosting ring. Don't equip it, just press start instead. You'll leave the menu and keep the bonus from both accessories in the second slot, as if you had 3 accessories equipped. The boost stays until you enter the menu again.
New Game + for this game is ridiculous to run considering you can start with Rapidus Fio and basically just run through everything with some short pauses to kill bosses with a couple of Glyph Unions.

that's new to me. that sounds pretty good.

a couple? everything except Dracula should be dying in one hit.
I want off the ride....
NG + ecclesia would probably be using that trick you have with double death activated for a 3rd death. Maxed out all attributes, and when it comes time to a boss, it would probably switch up to death/judge/judge if only just cause that would be darn right BROKEN. as that gives crazy ass damage... probably better if all 3 are judgements... You probably damn well COULD kill drac in 1 union glyph of dark/light....
none maxed out at like level 60 it takes me 3.. with two judgements on.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
ah, been playing non stop and finally beat shanoa and albus, albus certainly is hard on the hands, id personally like an albus run more, since there's no pause tricks, at least afaik
/BUMP!! This topic needs revival, for I must see this run!  Shocked
Quits halfway
As Satoryu said, posting on the DS CV games is done on another forum for some reason (the forum is completely inactive), here's the OoE Shanoa topic. Serris is the one planning to run the game, and his route planning is on the last half of the 2nd page.

Sounds like he's working on it and is about ready to start recording attempts.
Castlevania?
I believe that the forum is just a working ground so the information can be put onto the wiki or anywhere that's more public. You can try asking arukado to make a TAS if you don't mind watching TAS videos.
Also, I've always gotten the impression that the discussion wouldn't be much more active if it was on SDA - would be great if I was wrong, though. So, if you have any route improvements in mind, please share!

What did he mean by "pause tricks"?
Segment 1

Feedback required before I move on. Magnes and horse ghosts didn't like me, but cooperating Zombies and Arthroverta made up for it. I managed to keep the DS quite still this time, but kind of an awkward way of holding it was needed for that. Aftermath, if you're reading this, I'd love to see your recording setup.
Castlevania?
From what I can see, the segment is fine other than maybe getting hit by the Banshee (or whatever made you get knocked backwards) but it might not be worth doing again if the rest of the segment was extra good. I also really love the quality of your video although the only thing holding it back in my opinion is the lack of Aftermath's setup, which I would also love to see. And maybe your thumb. Tongue

Finally get to see some Serris action!
If you get past the horse ghosts without any mistakes, you can jump through the Banshee before she fully spawns, but since the ghost got me, there was no way to avoid getting hit by her as well.

As for my thumbs, I really can't do anything about it. :/ As long as they don't make the vid unwatchable, I'm not going to worry about it. Maintaining both video and gameplay quality is stressful enough.

I'm still unsure about not getting Secare. The boss fight seemed a lot longer than I remember it with Secare. But that could also be because I killed most everything in my way so I was Level 2 for the fight.

Why did the video come out scrunched? Did that have something to do with your file format?
Secare does 9 damage on lvl 1, iirc. It's also quite a bit slower than Confodere. Add actually killing a Bone Scimitar and absorbing the glyph to that, throw in a save next to Magnes (I'm not going to manipulate a drop from file creation), and I can't imagine it being faster.

About the video, that's just YouTube not being able to handle widescreen. The original file looks fine.
Visually Appealing
I haven't experienced a problem like that. The PSP videos I uploaded were widescreen, and they weren't resized.
I don't know the cause, but it doesn't really matter. It's just so I can get some quick opinions on my segments, and the final product will be handled by nate, anyway.
Segment 2
Visually Appealing
When you stop to jump over groups of enemies, it would be better to damage boost off them. And what happened to the focus in Kalidus?
Damage boosts like that require a fair bit of precision and just aren't worth the risk in a segment like this. Random headsuckers (they love to interrupt Macir absorption, just like the Bone Scimitar), random Zombies, random Axe Armors, random rare chest, random rare chest contents. I'm pretty happy about this segment, I couldn't have asked for much more.

About the focus, yeah, I just posted about it in the NDS recording thread.
Segment 3

A jump in front of the save room didn't register, but it was fine otherwise. Boss used his kick three times, so I was able to kill him before his jump attack.
Segment 4

Alright, since I got two random Magical Tickets now, I think I can add the Battle Boots to the route.

I currently have 2000$ (1500$ starter money + 500$ from Minera).

There are 3 x 1000$ bags in the sunken ship area and an Emerald that sells for 500$, making it 5500$. I need 9 Meat for 2610$ and at least 7 Magical Tickets for 700$, leaving me with 2190$. Battle Boots become available after Skeleton Cave and are 2500$, so I need another 310$. Tymeo and sunken ship are the best candidates for at least one ~200$ treasure each, and I plan on delaying sunken ship until after getting the Tower Ring. If I get 2 x 200$ treasures, I could get another 10$ from candles for an extra MT for use after getting Rapidus Fio, though I don't know if that would save any time. Dashing to the exit vs. MTing and having to exit Wygol, hmm. Depends on whether the fade-out after exiting an area and the fade-in of the map cost more time than simply traversing the Rapidus Fio room. And, of course, I don't know if the +2 STR from the Battle Boots make enough of a difference to justify the "detour" for the Emerald and the time spent actually selling the stuff (since the timer doesn't freeze on the shop screen, unlike PoR's :() Either way, please check this updated route here and see if you can spot any mistakes (I'm completely paranoid about not buying enough Magical Tickets - I'm only using 7 (8 if I get an extra one for after Rapidus Fio) from Segment 9 onwards, right?).

Segment 5

In the room with the Mushroom, I have to wait for the spider to reach the right wall, otherwise it will turn around right away and poison me, and I can't afford losing that much health. Enemy spawns were really nice, and I only need another 50$ for the boots.
