On another note, whats the fastest method of movement in the game?
is it faster to jump while running, or is it the same as just running.

More importantly, when you are on a skyrail, is it faster to just ride the skyrail, or to try and jump to sections of the skyrail ahead of where you are. I am having trouble figuring out whether your speed on the skyrail is preset, or if it's based on momentum.

Sprinting.  It's either infinite, or something so like it I cannot tell the difference.

Fastest movement depends on what is happening. If you feel like your movement is lowered(like in the first part of the game with no weapons), jumping and running is faster. They kept the jumping speed the same. Jumping in water is also faster, just like in Bioshock 1 and 2. If you have normal control over the game, sprinting is the fastest.

Skyrail is the same thing, it just depends what's happening. If you are sliding down, it's better to stay on. If you are going up-hill, it's better to jump ahead.
First post here.

I haven't found any useful death warping since the respawn points are always set before the encounters. BUT it is possible to manipulate certain encounters in to ending early with a well timed death.

Normally in this fight you have to fight something like four different waves of enemies before you can progress. But if you die during the first wave and come back to clear it, the other waves will not trigger. I haven't tested this on every encounter, but as you can see it works for this one. You could save a minute or so by not having to kill something like 15 more guys (including two firemen). Respawning also replenishes your ammo, which comes in handy. It's alot easier later on when you have an effective method of hurting yourself like the hail fire.

See, and I would've never figured that out. Nice, will use that in my next run. Cheesy

I think the timer should end when we get to the bow of the ship and Elizabeth starts talking. From that point on it is just an "ending" cutscene where you have to move around (there are no choices to make to make this go faster). Stopping it at the Bathysphere lever seems really arbitrary to me. But it doesn't really matter since anybody who puts the time into finishing a run will want it to run to credits when they are finally done (and splits/races will end right after final fight).

The sea of doors can be done faster or slower depending on what route you take, and your movement. It's not entirely without meaningful input.

If thats true timing (for SDA) should end at the last moment we have control of Dewitt. However for my splits (and I am sure for SRL racing/leaderboards) I am just going to stop the time after the final battle.
For the simpler questions, like which enemies you have to fight, I think the video of my run could be helpful.

As far as movement, don't forget about charge, the melee range gear, and the movement speed on shield break gear.
I feel like the timer should stop when we send the Songbird at the tower finally, but I believe most games stop when you cannot control the character anymore.  This would be at the last lighthouse door activation if I'm not mistaken.

I found a small timesaver at the beginning when you have to wait to dock (when first entering the city). You can jump off and manage to land on the edge of the platform. I havent beeen able to test it at all (in the middle of a testrun and don't want to restart), but I will try to get a video up this weekend.
Ya, that's a pretty easy skip, all you have to do is sprint and jump off the edge at an angle then press the left key back towards the platform and you can easily make it on the lower platform

Not bad for an early run. Of note: you can totally hit Escape to avoid grabbing the Tunnel Vision gear. Also, I'm pretty sure there's a way to swap gear setups ingame.
It would probably be best to work on getting a couple of guns you really like, and grabbing the damage upgrades for those. The Crank Gun and mortar thingy in particular, since you use those a lot.
Perhaps put your infusions into shield instead of health? It would help with running about and ignoring enemies. The salts infusions are still good though, given how much you use psi powers.
#speedrunslive to race games!!!
I'm not super sure you want shield infusions, since you can manipulate enemy waves by dying, and it makes it easier to die without a lot of shield.
Metal Gear Rising Speedrunner
I don't think shield upgrades would be worth it. Your shield drains so fast, but your health drains slower. You also start out with more health than shield, so you might as well upgrade that. Salt upgrades are also useful.
Nice run so far, kwanzai. I'm impressed you already have it down to 3 hrs or so, already.

One idea for you - I think the leap animation for the hook is faster than walking, assuming there's like 20+ yards of leap. So for example, in Soldier's Field the first time, headed toward the aerodome, there's a couple of hooks on the path, one story up. I figure it's faster for some hooks.

I was able to get from the Cemetery straight to the bank map via OOB skipping the fights, elevator to load the map etc. However you can not interact with the tear which sucks :/
Maybe someone will find an use for this OOB: (You fall from cemetery map into the bank map)

Now that i know this, I will never pick up tunnel vision again haha.

Sadly, I don't think you can upgrade the crank gun, but the volley seems pretty powerful on easy so I may upgrade that if i have money.

Upgrading fire seems like a priority though.  I think the best path for infusions should be all salts, at least on easy, now that we need to die (volley also helps with dying).

I'll implement that usernameguy, I definitely need to optimize my movement.  I've been looking finding small time savers like that, especially enemies that we can charge to.

Nice find amz!  I knew there had to be a way to get in there.  Sad that you can't interact with the tear though.

I want to include my interest in runnig this game. I've seen the videos.

does anyone have run notes for this or a YT video of the full run?

Wait what do you even do in the bank exactly? Do you only go there to open the tears? If there is only tears downstairs and you can't open them, then I don't think the bank OOB will be any real use. If you can open the tears, then this should probably be a big skip because you would skip 1 fight with the Siren.

I'm still hoping to find an OOB to go right into Comstock's house, eliminating the Siren/Tears sidequest altogether, but I havent tested anything yet.

I was messing around with the infinite fall oob that was posted earlier. I started falling oob and then went to go eat dinner. I came back 30 minutes later and Dewitt had respawned a ways away, on the section of the map facing Monument Island, but stuck and unable to move (can look around, just not move). Will do some more testing in this area tonight.

You have no idea how much time I spent the at the gate to Comstock's House. I managed to jump on the high tree, but failed to make the jump to another high rail because they put a giant invisible wall there. If someone can find a skip there, I will give them infinite hugs.

If it takes like 30 minutes for Infinite Fall to do something, I don't want to run this game LOL. Hopefully something does come out of it though.

Is there any way to rocket jump? Even a small height boost would be pretty helpful I bet.

Skipping the Comstock gate would be great, but being able to do so is contingent on the area exit door being active before you complete the Siren quest. Certainly worth trying though.

You can use the firemen to get a small boost I've found (particularly at the point after the raffle (though you can easily skip the raffle now) when you're fighting the fireman for the first time) but I couldn't find a use for it.

As in both from his "shots" of devils kiss and the implosion skill he does, both give you a fair amount of height and distance.

Edit:

At the beach scene where Elizabeth is dancing, I'm trying to find a way past the barriers / people flexing for a photo. I am able to get up on the balcony NEXT to the turnstables but there is an invisible wall stopping me from going INFRONT of it.

Also another side note: I've managed to get into "stuck" locations and been able to pop myself out into a random direction (in a few cases, I have become stuck behind machinery).

Still investigating the oob fall, and you end up hitting some kind of death floor after 45-50 seconds (at least from the spot shown earlier). When I hit the floor, it made the death "whoosh" sound and it faded to white, but instead of going to bookers office like usual, he just respawns on a oob floor without being able to move (maybe he just skips the office if he dies before the raffle scene, I am not sure if his health is depleted though because my screen is fucked up).

I havent been able to get him to respawn back in bounds yet, but I wanted to note an interesting fact. If you do the raffle skip that involves going oob by the possession shop, and go off the map a bit to the left of the spot done in the video, you will fall oob and after 1-2 seconds instantly die and respawn back a bit (in the place I got to from the other oob, but able to move about).

Two things to learn from this is that death floors are not necessarily constant, and some kind of spawn manipulation may be possible.

From what I've tired, no damage you do gives you a boost. All your damage does not give you height. I know for sure some enemies give you height when they do damage to you.

The Balcony's invisible wall is massive man. If you go upstairs and get ontop of  those tents, you still can't jump over. It may be massive due to you being up there, but if it's there all the time, it's big. The only way I see skipping that part is if you manage to clip behind the people flexing.

Good luck on the OOB fall then, I can only hope it comes into use. Too bad we can't test how the spawn system works, because I don't think the PC version has no-clip. If it does, someone could test to see if you move far enough underground, will your spawns change.
