I finally found something that can be used in a speedrun! I call it the Port Prosperity Fight Skip. Right in front of the Port Prosperity building, there is an annoying fight you must do to advance through the game because you have to picklock the door. You can't picklock it because you're in a fight. This trick simply just avoids the trigger, allowing you to picklock the door right away!

I was just wondering about this. This is good to know.
I found some more useless oob areas in Emporia, but one of them is interesting. I can almost land inside of the bank vault, but it's just slightly too far.
Here is the other one at the start of Emporia
Although I can't find a use for these, maybe one of you can.
I'll have to explore these more, maybe they could be put into use.
So a few things I've been thinking about, there are quite a few infusions that take almost no time to get, like maybe 4-5s. Do you guys think it would be worth it to get these? And if so what stat/s should we be upgrading? Also what weapons have people been using? I'm using mostly a shotgun along with either an RPG a Volley gun or a Hail fire depending on the availability.
I found a few time's when i would go to melee a person when I charge, guessing with the 3x range gear, I would something go flying way past them. Might be helpfull in some spot if there is a way to always do it.

Yes it would be worth it. This Bioshock is mean, even on Easy you die fast. The ones that look like they wouldn't waste too much time are worth getting.

Would have to look into that. Though getting Gear in this game is total RNG so I guess you'll have to be lucky.
I don't own this game and have no idea about the new game mechanics but great job with finding all these tricks so far. I know the game engine isn't the same as BioShock 1 and 2, but there are a few things that I can recommend trying:
*In the 1st game, you can still activate your "use" key while dieing. (Deathwarps to skip cutscenes/sequences started by activating an item) *Deathwarps in general *Do a run with the only getting the very essential items and then start looking at what would actually be beneficial to pick up/obtain compared to that run. Most the time, even things that take 5-10 seconds to get aren't as valuable as they appear. *If you can move items around (once again, never played/watched the game :p), then experiment with stacking items and trying to get to places you aren't suppose to be or to get over rails. The developers for the 1st and 2nd game loved to put in rails but with an invisible wall on top so you couldn't just jump over but with 1-2 items stacked up you could get over quite easily. *If there are any radio message/audio diary like aspects in this game, definitely spend some time messing around with those.
Whenever I get the time/money to play this game, I'll be able to offer a bit more. I'd commit to speedrunning it, but I've got so many other games that need my attention as well. Best of luck to those working on Infinite

1. Your death animation is so fast, I really don't think you'll be able to use your "use" key. Once you die, you are transferred into a side map, where Elizabeth injects you. If Elizabeth is not around, they will still teleport you to your office, so no way to abuse deaths. 2. Death warps are not possible, instead of taking you forward, they take you back. There might be places to abuse this, but it would be really hard to tell where you can. 3. You WILL need ammo and health/salt upgrades. You just die so fast, it will not be worth it in the long run when you die and get pushed back so far, you waste all the time you gain. You don't have health packs like in the first game, Elizabeth RNG's health. So by that, you will not always get health so she's not 100% reliable. 4. There is no telekinesis Vigor, so moving items is not possible. You can't move items at all, you can't even interact with physic items at all. You go through everything that moves. 5. Radio messages are different in this game, they are put "behind" the story text. In this game, there really is no "radio", there is only a record player. So in this case, no one speaks over the radio, they speak over the world level with speakers. I'm guessing all record player messages are a "less priority" so they get overwritten all the time. So radio skips are not possible.
Not meaning to criticize your response as I have not played the game or even watched it where as you have, but:

*The death animation for the 1st and 2nd game are both quick as well, but it only takes a fraction of a second to spam the "use" key as it's starting. *No idea how the maps are laid out, so I'm not able to judge how/if deathwarps would be useful, but in the majority of games, deathwarps/death abuse usually leads to big skips so I wouldn't rule out their possibility for Infinite.

*I didn't mean to go through the game without picking up anything at all, just don't assume that things are necessary and see if you can get by without getting an upgrade here or there. *Is Elizabeth's RNG really RNG? Although in the 1st game, a lot of the RNG based mechanics (loot/hacking) were actually deemed to be different depending on the game file. If you did the same level over from a specific save each time, the "RNG" was the same. The infamous escort mission was also thought to have RNG in it (the little girl running/walking) but it can be manipulated with where you stand when the little sister activates certain triggers. It might not even matter in a SS run, but might be worth looking into regardless.

Once again, not trying to be an ass, but don't just assume that they are "less priority" and leave it at that. Even if you're guess ends up being correct, might as well test it and see what happens.
Regarding death warps: I've run into some weird stuff myself, where I've cleared the last enemy in a room on one side, died at the same time, and then got teleported near to where the lockpick is. I don't think it would ever be worth using though, considering the harsh money penalty.
Could you die to get inside the vault in that downtown emporia oob?
e: it appears that if the game doesn't have an associated respawn point for your current location, then it just puts you back where you died. Maybe there's a spot along the exterior where the respawn trigger area juts out. Seems unlikely considering that it's a big rectagular area that's aligned with the axes.
I actually jumped off the edge and air strafed underneath the vault once. It killed me, then instantly spawned me exactly where I was, creating an infinite death loop.
Apparently if you preordered the game, you not only get 5 vials at the start, but you can acquire gear that gives a 50% speed boost for 3s after eating food...
DLC and exclusive items like this are normally not allowed, correct?
It would be under a different category, at the least.
This game feels like a blast to run, and I thought about how to go about it a lot while playing through the game. It seems to me from the skips that have been found that most of the enemy's/fights in the game are started via triggers that might be skippable, so testing will need to be done there.
I remember being in a fight during my first playthrough(I think it was outside Hall of Heroes) where I think I went slightly oob while walking backwards through a wall, but I went back in bounds right away and couldn't get back oob (I didn't try very hard). I will try and figure out that oob more when I get there.
Finally it seems like trying to find an oob that gets us into the comstock house without doing the sidequest stuff involving lady comstock would save a lot of time, and I will probably spend a good amount of time testing that area.

*Again, I haven't seen any use of spamming anything when you die because you can't do ANYTHING besides opening the shop machines to buy stuff when you're in a fight. There might be use for RPG though, since Vigors can not damage yourself. I don't know where you would use Death Warps, I haven't found a single spot yet.
*I'm planning on doing a run in like 5 minutes with no upgrades and seeing how that goes. *Trust me when I say, she is complete RNG. The only times she'll give you things is if your salts are low, ammo is low or your health is low. I think the only thing to manipulate is when she gives you money. You could possibly buy something cheap, and she'll most likely give you money. Though not all the time she'll decide to throw you something. The gamefile system is different, because you only have 1 save for that place, but it only saves when it wants to. You cannot save when you want. The game has a fixed amount of save slots for each level. If the game auto-saves, it overwrites it for that level.(Yes, I've checked with hacks and actually opening the folder to the same files.) So save manipulation is out of the question. How you'll be able to manipulate Elizabeth to give you items when she decides not to is your fun, she just gives me it when she feels like it.
*I know it's correct because with every world speech(i.e. speakers, Elizabeth talking, anything else that talks), the record players becomes mute for the world speech to be heard. There is no way to manipulate anything with radio.
Well you can pick up items (like lockpicks and weapons and stuff) while your in a fight, and there are some doors that you can open I think while in a fight. Besides you can always use an explosive weapon to kill yourself, which means weird deathwarping stuff is still possible.
Also could savewarping be useful to skip long story scenes somewhere? The specific place I'm thinking is the opening scene where dewitt goes to columbia, since that takes 1-3 minutes.

Well those are just basic items, I don't see anyway you could manipulate it to something that would break the game. Doors are automatically open, though locked doors can not be open till the fight is done. Nothing that requires you to actually use the "USE" key to move forward with the game can be used while in a fight or Elizabeth being busy. Again, anything is possible but there are limitations within the game.
Nope, because the auto-save spot in that area is when you first wake up in the water. Saving is really not an option. It doesn't keep anything you did before it, so you are basically locked in where the programmers want you. Not a single auto-save spot is close to each other either so the only way to really abuse it is if you went OOB.

I know there are some things that require you to kill all the enemies to advance, but there are others that don't. For instance I was able to hit an elevator button while there was a fight going. I was also able to press the action key to open the door to Hall of Heroes while a fight is going on (which was a transition to a new area)
Just because it seems like somethng should logically/technically be impossible, doesn't mean it is. We don't have access to the source code so all we can do is theorize and test the theories to see if something works, however unlikely it is (take for instance Super Mario 64. Without knowing about the Backwards Long Jump (lets you go really fast backwards), the rules given by the game would make it seem like that's not technically possible). Remember that glitching/speedrunning is all about breaking the rules given to us, not adhering to them.
EDIT: Never mind, technical problems, will run again later on in the day.

True, it seems buttons don't have the combat waiter.
Actually, we do have access to some of the source code. The file "Coalesced_INT.bin" has everything from buttons, when you are allowed to start moving, what speed you move at, new button layouts. The only thing the source code is in the game is how it handles it. This is how UE3 works, it reads the values from Coalesced_INT.bin and outputs that data for the game code to use. The past Bioshock games had different coals because it was UE2, UE3 is much more simple to edit. They did the same thing like they did for Bioshock 1+2 but in a different way, so if you are in a cut scene where you can't use your items, all it does is read a new layout to use to disable use of it. Once the game is done the cut scene, it will give back your old layout. A good example of this is at Fort Forlic, where you must wait for the Bathysphere to go down to get back your speed, it just reads a new layout to switch to. So yes, the game has it's limits and sometimes you have to play by the rules.
I know it's about breaking the game, that's why I'm trying to find tricks and glitches to make speedrunning more pleasing for the current game. Just trying to find things, just like everyone else.

Just wanted to point out that you get your speed back not because the bathysphere goes down, but because you activate the goal to find sander cohen :3.
I think what thundrio and I were trying to get across, wasn't that you're not trying to find other tricks/skips/whatever as well, but that even things that may appear to be impossible at first glance may actually not be impossible after a bit more testing. Just taking a simple idea (lets just use deathwarps for now) and applying it to any and all situations is the way that some of the skips are found. Even if it doesn't appear to work or is just a waste of time in the majority of places, there might be 1 area in which its actually helpful.
I will have to read everything... Don't want to be spoiled. I didn't play the game since... The released.
Here is the Infinite Fall I was talking about.
Nice, haha. That actually has some interesting implications since it means that death comes from hitting some sort of "death object" as opposed to going below a certain height. Not sure if that information can be used in any way.
What are we thinking for the "end" of the run? My personal vote is hitting the bathysphere lever.
I think the timer should end when we get to the bow of the ship and Elizabeth starts talking. From that point on it is just an "ending" cutscene where you have to move around (there are no choices to make to make this go faster). Stopping it at the Bathysphere lever seems really arbitrary to me. But it doesn't really matter since anybody who puts the time into finishing a run will want it to run to credits when they are finally done (and splits/races will end right after final fight).
The infinite fall is really interesting. Earlier I was trying to find a way to skip the first zepplin you go through (The one where the girl burns it down), since you end up jumping off it anyway. I couldn't find any way past the death floor, but maybe if there is an oob there, we could save 1-2 minutes.

They lead to the same event. xD
I'm fully aware that anything is possible, look at Ocarina of Time and it's warp. I'm just saying, that there are limitations to some games. If someone figures out how to get to the end credits in Ocarina of Time once the first cut scene is done, then I'll believe ANYTHING above ANYTHING is possible. There is just things that are within rules.
About the death warps, I personally don't have a clue where it can be used so I will probably not look for it. I'm just trying to find the things that break the game.
