I found a more reliable setup for the suicide through the Comstock Gate;  instead of using the volley gun to get your health down to a sliver, just get yourself within 2 rockets of killing yourself.  Break your shield with the rocket, and then wait for a second or 2 before you start running...by the time you make it to the gate your shield will have recharged enough that the rocket will kill you every time.  This setup makes it nearly impossible to kill yourself on the stairs and consistently allows you to get through the gate without failing the suicide.  A pretty obvious setup and very similar to the HoH skip in it's execution...
I couldn't get the Gate skip last night to save (or end! ha!) my life. I'll review the tapes from the really good successful run 2 nights ago to last nights "head-against-the-wall" failure to try to figure it out. Even with the more reliable recent developments on this skip (thanks again to DumDumDugan), it still has a little bit of nebulousness.
I've been working on a slightly faster method of getting the HoH skip.  It takes some practice to get used to but once you get the timing down its pretty consistent and simple (at least for me). I try to optimize the rocket boosts and don't stand in place to set up the skip. All told though it probably only saves ~6 seconds, but was still fun to work on. Take a look:

Holy god it doesnt look you are going that far when you suicide the second time.  I have to throw my dead body so far down that hall to get the skip.
I think it's just the visuals tricking you...it always feels like you are going far inside the door before you die, but it's just the HRH speed boost distorting the vision...to be honest I can't get the skip using the method where you shoot at the floor.
I know the Elizabethless Factory Skip can cause some headaches when Booker is swinging all over the place and it's been losing 45 to 90 seconds on my runs...so I came up with an even easier way to do it.  Enjoy:

O damn thats nice.  Also I think I'm the only one that does this in runs but if you HRH boost off the barge waiting for the patriot gondola right after shock jockey, you can get on it super early but it gets glitchy sometimes.  If you get on at the earliest possible moment it makes you miss the trigger that starts the dialogue and it feels like it messes up the suicide.  But if I can figure out a way to get the suicide consistent it could save about 15 seconds since you get on the thing extremely early.
Does anybody else's game take like 6 minutes to start? It never used to, not sure what changed.

And the new run with hill runners hat is... not very fun. I'm gonna try to get under 2 hours but farming this item ruins the game.
My game takes extra time to start up now as well...I've made my peace with HrH so it doesn't bother me much. Good luck on the runs!
I think under 2 hours is still possible without it, would be really hard though.  Sucks that no matter what new skips are found HRH is always going to be apart of the run.

Just posted a 2:08:56 with a lot of mistakes, and also if FearfulFerrets BI leaderboard is still correct is the 6th fastest time
Glad to see somebody else running this, keep it up volf Smiley  Chadbro, I did some testing of that gondola jump that you mentioned...seems to mess up the suicide like you said, but if you just wait a few seconds to make sure you trigger the dialogue it still saves alot of time.

I haven't found any way to do the gate skip without the hat with more than like a 5% success rate.

If you are talking about the comstock gate skip i found a pretty consistent method without HRH.  If you look in my run a few posts up you will notice when i do it i back into that corner and then suicide through the gate at an angle and I have tested it a few times without HRH and it still works
If anyone else wants to test that would be great (Comstock Gate can be finicky...), but I tried volf4321's Comstock setup w/o HRH and it actually worked twice in a row from downtown emporia skip.

E: In my save states I was still wearing the Hat but not using it's boosts to aide suicide...not sure how this would effect the skip for those who didn't have it in their inventory.

Man I was all hyped that I was able to get on it so quick and skip the dialogue but that suicide saves so much time

I have two questions I'm hoping someone can answer:

1. Has anyone skipped the bird/cage choice on a console? It seems to rely on a high frame rate, so I'm thinking it's not possible on consoles.
2. I'm trying to get the Comstock Gate skip, but I'm always respawned on the wrong side of the gate. I can tell when I'm not walking along the railings correctly, as I'll be respawned closer to the edge if I screw that up. I'm following the method I see in a bunch of videos, but haven't been able to get on the other side. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

Thanks.

Edit: I was actually just able to get the Comstock Gate skip using the angle from volf's video above (though I was using HRH for it), so looks like I'm all good on that question for now.

Yeah if you go at it at an angle for comstock gate skip its pretty easy

and to answer your first question I honestly don't know but I believe it should be possible.  On my channel I have like a 9 second highlight of the skip and all I do is line up the middle of my heart for the life bar with the left side of that tent and spring jump and strafe right.  I don't even move my mouse anymore so I don't know if that would make it easier on console but I would be interested in hearing back

EDIT: I am gonna be streaming for about 30 minutes to an hour right now if you want to stop by.  I am mostly gonna be doing that bird skip amongst another out of bounds area within battleship bay to see if I can do anything with it

EDIT EDIT EDIT: http://www.twitch.tv/volf4321/b/543439088  There is the practice along with out of bounds towards the middle.  I can't find any use for the skip so maybe one of you guys can
PS sorry for annoying ass noise at beginning
Haven't tried it yet but that seems like a nice setup for Bird or Cage skip.
Oh that sticky wall. I was wondering if you can somehow get on top, nice find. You can do it on the opposite side too. I don't think it's usable for anything, maybe bypassing the door opening if you can get back in bounds somehow. You can get it to load the next area out there too and walk around under the arcade. Looks like thats a thing. Well, you don't get the checkpoint and you'd have to backtrack if you want to get an HRH so its probably not that useful actually.
As for climbing up before talking to Elizabeth, I think that softlocks. You can't open the locked door if you don't do that first.

By the way, where did you get the trainer? I'm tired of using the silly noclip because its so hard to navigate precisely so I'd rather save position.

Also I figured I might as well post that for everyone to see:

I got it a while ago but it was on a site caleld sicheats.com but I looked the other day and it has since been taken down but i'm sure a simple google search might warrant some results
Just download a bunch off of gamecopy world thats what I did.  Eventually one will work.

If we find a way to skip arcade and the handyman fight I'll die.

And by we i of course mean the god RealLink and his disciple mai boi stoic
Welp I'm sooo angry at myself lol I just ran a 2:05:24 with perfect luck and poor execution

http://www.twitch.tv/volf4321/b/543725218

It is the 5th fastest time and a new PB so at least I moved up one spot on the leaderboards but ill explain the run for those who don't care for watching

I had the perfect RNG and execution of beginning portions of the game
-Bird and Cage Skip first try
-Hill Runners Hat in less than a minute (only had to restart checkpoint once)

Where it fell apart:
-Missed strafe jump once you get to Columbia and got stuck (only a few seconds but they add up)
-Hall of Heroes skip (specifically second suicide to trigger slate door) took 4 awful tries
-Factory Skip took about 6 tries (normally takes 1-3)
-Factory battle took about 3 minutes too long because there was an enemy who could not be found (last one I had to kill)
-Downtown Battle, a skip I am usually VERY comfortable with, took 3 tries (including one death)

That is about it but the mistakes made were big and I could have easily gotten sub 2 hours if I diddnt make those mistakes and especially with the god luck I got with Hill Runners Hat

......Ohhhhhh well back on the ol' grind tomorrow

Thanks for the video. I've just been trying with your setup, and still haven't managed to get it. I've gotten caught on the edge a couple of times, but never made it up. It seems like it might need the high frame rate to make it possible. Coincidentally, your glitch with the poster doesn't seem to work on consoles either, which is disappointing, as I was looking forward to playing around with it.
The angle shot volf uses isn't terribly different than the setup by DumDumDugan for no HRH. I'll mess with the precision angle shot, but I still think the entire thing hinders on respawn "checkpoints" and not having Booker on the ground too long before he suicides through the wall. It's consistent with why volf's strategy works with HRH (he goes very fast to the gate before the suicide) as well as the "shield jump" method for no HRH runs.

I should be able to prove it's time-based with practicing the exact positioning of volf's "angle" method. If I can't stand in front of the gate for several seconds and still do it even with volf's angle, it should show it is entirely based on how long Booker is (or more correctly, isn't) on the ground before he suicides through the gate.

My intuition is that it is time based, but if it is easily doable based on the angle of volf's shot and landing, I will be extremely happy because it should be the last puzzle piece for consistency for no HRH runs. (Yay PS3.)
I got 2:00:25 without Hill Runner's Hat. I think WR is possible without it.
