Possible improvements:
Level 1: step 1

List of tricks and shortcuts:

Corner cutting: Wood and paper ball allow you to cut corners to save time with high speed.

Floating: Paper ball may float over a huge distance with a reasonable height.Perfect example is level 3(Sexy).

Ridge racing: The technique that you can use a wood or stone ball run over a single rail manually or by adjusting position perfectly. You need this to do level 8's trick and the whole level 12.

Half pushing1: This is the technique that when you push a box for the block on top to fall down, you can use full speed and push to one direction. What happen is your ball will go through while a small corner of the box still sustain the block, which allow you to go back. You need this in level 7 and 10.

Half pushing2: There is a thing with 3 wooden bars block your way and you need to push the target on the other side to move the bars. You only need to push the target once to go through it.

Level 1:

1st Part
1.Go over the three boxes (Don't fall!!! Try to ridge race just after the first life to get to the stone transformation, I have tried it, it is possible although it is hard to avoid the transformation, this will save 5
secs!!!)  - Possible improvement
2.Avoid stone transformation
3.Ridge race and fly straight to the rail(the place with four paper balls)
4.Don't push the wood ball

2nd Part
5. Get the 2nd life but don't fall off. (It is possible to avoid the life and that's even faster)
6. Avoid the box at the top and fall down earlier to save time

3rd Part
7. Ignore the 3rd life and 2 push targets, go full speed and fly across(Is it possible to avoid collision here?)

4th Part
8. Push paper ball and don't turn, full speed down.
9. Some corner cutting here.

Level 9

Part 1
1. Push the wood board and let the stone ball roll, don't go and roll back, wait until the stone ball reach the closest end of the lowest level of the rail, full speed and turn left straight to the rail, time it right and you will get the stone ball as your safety cushion. (Save 4 secs)

Part 2
2. Before the life, when you at the top, go full speed and fall to skip two sand bags.

Part 3
3. Full speed to the crates, try bypass those long bars by roll at the edge, risky but time saving.

Part 4
4. After push two stones, go straight across to the other side using wood ball.

Part 5
5. Just keep practicing until you can push down all the weights in one go, not very hard but be careful when using the stone ball.
6. Don't push the wood fall bridge, you can easily go across.

Level 12:

You can opt for manually balancing your ball or have some time adjusting the position before you roll. I recommand manually because 1. It is faster. 2. You can control the situation.

Part 1:
1. See the life, and turn, go ridge race!

Part 2:
2. Get to the second(big platform), go ridge race straight to the next part.

Part 3:
3. Turn to stone, full speed to push the other stone and continue rolling but stick to the rail from the right.

Part 4:
4. Hardest part in this whole game. After the wood transformater, go a bit left and ridge race on the left rail. Enjoying your ride for 6 secs and fall to the left to push the wood bridge.

Part 5:
5. Keep practice until you can push all the thing down in one go.
6. Stone ball fall straight to the paper transformater.

Part 6:
7. Nothing exciting here, I will go for Up, Left and Right to push those stone balls.

Part 7:
8. We are nearly there, wood go straight to the stone transformater, ridge race back and get in the two rails to be in perfect position, then go up the rail ramp and push down all the crates(Brake here!), don't go anywhere else, ridge race to the next part.

Part 8:
9. Nothing exciting here, becareful, you really don't want to fork up...
Thread title:
Oohh, I've requested a Run for this game in the Request Thread, so it would be great if you're going to do it Smiley

Q: Is it runnable?
A: Absolutely. There are already some Runs on the homepage itself but they aim for the highest score (Which includes collecting the Time Point and the Extra Ball bonusses, which wouldn't be necessary for a Speed Run).

Q: How can I record it?
A: You can use Fraps or Camtasia or some other capture program, but I think Fraps will do just fine Smiley

Q: How can I upload it for people to download?
A: There are a lot of sites like www.youtube.com (It can't be downloaded from here as far as I know, Almost-Instant-Watch Smiley ) and www.filefront.com and others which I don't remember at the moment (Someone please complete the list, heh... Smiley )

Btw, are you also going to run the extra Level 13?

Well, you've got my support, good luck Smiley
This is really helpful, thanks a lot.  Smiley

It is completely different to do a speed run as some of the shortcuts skip lots of time points and lives.

Level 13th will be included for sure, the level itself is just spectacular.
On the other hand, collecting all the Time Points and Extra Balls could be considered as an 100% Run Smiley
give me your eyes!!!
If you want it on speeddemosarchive then you'll have to follow the technical faq if you're encoding it yourself, then follow the submission faq to get it on the site.

If you just want it up somewhere then use any of the hosting sites mentioned.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
i've once started to make a speedrun for this game (ballance) but the problem is, i didn't captured it the "right way". i wouldn't say it is worthless, but i do think that it wont be postet on sda.

the second (and worse) thing is, i only did level 1 to 7 :p

i've uploaded it on youtube, just feel free to "study" my speedrun and hopefully YOU will post a COMPLET speedrun on sda Wink (with even better times actually Cheesy - i've done a lot of mistakes(!))

one tip: cut the video of at the time the ballon takes off. i think this will be the most acurate thing.

(sry for my bad english, i'm austrian)
Those runs weren't too bad Smiley

I've managed to get a time of I believe around 01:45 in Level 1 when I was practicing it.
[Badly explained] Mainly because you didn't skip the part where you're pushing those 2 things away so you can roll over the path. [/Badly explained] Smiley

Watch the run of Level 1 from the homepage of Ballance and you'll see what I mean Wink

Yc2br3: BTW, how's the progress? Smiley

Thank you The Void!
I have been practicing and researching this game for minimising the time since I posted it, it went pretty well.
Surprisingly, there are tons of shortcuts and I am amazed that theoratically, level 12 can be done in a very very short time by just rolling on the rail!
However, my laptop is too old to capture a sample run so I have to wait until 3rd of July when I back home. Also, I have the most important exams of my life this week, so I will start the run from 3rd of July.
Downloading Brain_Death's run...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

oh, i didnt know that "run".

like i said, "i've done a lot of mistakes" Wink
Brain Death:
Your level 1 looks good, I am not sure what TheVoid is talking about, it seems you have used the the skip.
I think the part that you pushed twice to get through is unneccessary.
TheVoid:
I have just timed myself, I got 1:50, I am not sure how do you manage 1:45, it seems very hard.
Yes, 01:45 wasn't exactly easy...
I'll try to make a video If I can do it again but this can take a while Wink
Sweet, I've already managed to do it, and even faster Smiley
There are still several mistakes in it so it can be done even faster.
I didn't cut out some frames in the beginning and the end so you can time it yourself in case I didn't time it correctly.
I've timed it at 01:42 Smiley

Here's the video at YouTube:

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
great (!)

but you are right. there are some collision with obstacles that can be wiped out for a even metter time.

just keep goeing and transfer the accuracy of that run in every single level and THEN we will see a really great speedrun Smiley

I've just improved my Level 1 time with 1 second, 01:41 Smiley

But of course there are still several mistakes/improvable things in the run, so I'll just keep trying to improve it Wink

BTW, when do you actually need to start counting and when do you need to stop counting (When the balloon platform pops off the bridge you need to stop counting I think, just like Brain_Death said Smiley ) but when do you need to start counting?

That would be when you first gain control of the character, which is materializing of the ball i think.

Wish you luck on the run, i'm keen to seeing it. I just got this game, so maybe i'll try to search for some shortcuts.

Yes, most probably.
I had my doubts about the first level because it's actually a tutorial level and you can skip the tutorial stuff by pressing Q in the beginning, so that's why I thought you needed to start counting when it goes from black to graphics Wink
But I guess that wouldn't be logical for the other levels...

Wish you luck on the run

Who? me? Smiley
I'm actually not the one who's going to run this whole game, I was/am just trying to achieve a good time on Level 1 Wink

If I count the time when I gain control of the ball, it's now 01:38.

Dang, i missed this Tongue Well, good luck to the runner that wants to try it.

BTW. I've found the (i think) fastest route for level 8. The problem is, cause of framerate, the game is not playable anymore while recording, and i have a hard route to make, so recording this will take a while...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
yeah, that was also my big problem and one of the reasons i didn't completed the run for this game.
Invisible avatar
Well, the problem is that the physics screw a little when having very low framerate, so this is getting fucked up...
BUT...I have turned the VSync off in my video card software, and now, despite the occasionall quirks, the game is playable while recording...yay Grin
I'll record that level 8 route if i manage it today...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
@dex:

i hope you took this route for the beginning of lvl 8:

I did Tongue I'm in the process of recording...be back in few minutes.

I'm gonna try to match this one Tongue

Anyway...i need to make some sacrifice to framerate gods or something like that...I got a time of 4:14, which isn't that bad, considering the level is kind of long. I made many mistakes, but 98% of them are due to the fawking framerate quirks...sometimes the framerate dropped just a little, but i feared it would destroy my attempt, so i slowed down...One mistake that's due to me, and not the frames is the moving platform entering with wooden ball...well anyway, i'm uploading the video, and i'll give you the link to it when it's uploaded.
