Quote from Kirua:
It's cute and all to support your friend but stop saying svenne is second best (of people who submitted) when he's more than one minute behind whitman for all stages (and i'm not even talking about GDF's PB which is even more ahead, and i'm not talking about the record which is more than three minutes faster than the don for a 22ish minutes run).

Truth is GDF is by far the best smb2u runner out of the people who submitted, and whitman is a logical choice for the second player if there needs to be one. Honestly I would have just given GDF a solo run.

Seconding this.
Speaking as someone who got waitlisted for having the third best PB in a race that was decided to be limited to two, how about we support the marathon as a whole and have the big races in the side rooms when it's more appropriate than trying to squeeze every runner present on stream. I know damn well I'll have just as much fun commentating on my game as I would running it.

Quote from Cool Matty:
Alright, now that it's not 3AM, I went and checked on the SMB2 game. I discovered that the committee's working document didn't have Svenne's any% listed, which resulted in him getting rejected.

We rectified the issue, the SMB2 any% race is now a 3-way race.

Also, I wanted to make a side-note for the future: giving support to a fellow runner in your community is nice. I appreciate that you guys care for seeing your favorite runners in the event. However, we can't use that sort of testimony to decide runs. EVERY community has people they want to see in the event. It's not fair to the runners at large to only select based on a specific community input. We account for a much larger number of variables, and we have to be fair to runners that might be just as good but less popular.

I would also like to point out that sounding accusatory and/or like a complete dick when inquiring about one's submission doesn't help your point and only makes you look entitled and immature. I'm saying this because I have seen a lot of people sounding like the GDQ staff OWES them and acting like it was their birthright to be featured at GDQ. In the end it's their decision and their decision only. If you HAVE to be running to go to GDQ you're probably not going for the right reasons in the first place. I might get flamed for this, but honestly people, pretty please, with sugar on top, just calm the f*ck down.
just( •_•)>⌐■-■ ..... (⌐■_■)wing it
@GVirus people attend for their own reasons, they have that right
I can understand why waitlisted questions need to be addressed in that awkward time period between cuts and the schedule, however, I think if the run is rejected that inquiries regarding those runs should be reserved for a time after the GDQ. The GDQ committee and staff is extremely busy while trying to assemble the schedule. It's not a matter of being entitled to an answer for rejection or anything like that...it's just good to know which games are blacklisted and/or would not be a good fit for a marathon ever so wasted submissions and possible drama would be minimized in the future. This way all parties can be satisfied regarding the submission process. Thanks for hearing me out =)
The path of the righteous man...
@zewing @skybilz I might come as harsh but what I meant is, there is a way of asking things. And some people have been less than courteous to say the least. I understand the feeling trust me. It's just that there's a difference between asking for an answer and DEMANDING an answer. If that makes sense? As for the reasons for attending, you're right. But then again I think that running is not even close to being the top reason for attending AGDQ. But that's just me.

Naw Gvirus. I hear you on a lot of the points you were saying. I guess if I were to boil down what I was trying to say that maybe a place for inquiries for months after the GDQ events would be appropriate in the future to take some of the guesswork out of future submission seasons. I agree that they really do not owe us an answer but I figure it would never hurt to ask politely about a couple of games to get some constructive feedback. As for etiquette before, during, and after submission season,  no one should be rude to the GDQ committee and other members of the speedrunning community.  Those who are salty should be happy for their friends that are running at the GDQ and support them. Running a game at a GDQ can be stressful and the more support one has the better.
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
well, for some people, GDQs are just weekend vacations they can fund with their streams but for some others it's so complicated and expensive that, unless you were going to do something for the event itself, it wouldn't be worth it to spend that much to just go play games casually. it'd be better to stay at home and donate some hundreds of dollars. and that's not accounting people who can't even get extra money outside their normal income due to no popularity with streams....
Quote from Cool Matty:
All remaining runners will be decided this weekend and the committee is going to make an effort to finish the schedule also.

Thank you for the reply, Matty Smiley
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.
I hear from the committee that ALL runners, including race runners, heading to our schedule are now marked as "Progress". If you are on waitlist still, check your submission's comment. If it doesn't tell you anything, then you/your game is a backup, and may not make it into AGDQ. If you are marked "bonus", then your run may be added as a donation incentive, but is also not guaranteed to make it into AGDQ.

The scheduling has already begun and they've made a great deal of progress on it as well. We'll let you guys know the moment the schedule is finished.

For those who have a waitlisted run, do we need to pay the $40 to register or just leave it alone? (since it's been mentioned that waitlisted and bonus have free attendance).

Thank you for the update Cool Matty! Can't wait to see the final schedule! thumbsup

Hey Matty,

Thanks so much for the updates. I apologize as I have asked this a few times, but per your comment above I am a little confused. DXTR and I are both waitlisted for Mega Man 1 but for different categories. I'm not sure how this makes sense in terms of being a back up in case someone drops out. If someone drops out, would one of us be back up, and the other back up to back up? He is already running several games for GDQ and is honestly a better runner than me so I would completely understand why you would pick him. Just looking for clarity.

I live 5 miles from AGDQ so I will most likely not take off the whole week since I can still work and pop in and out. Knowing what being waitlisted in this situation means would help me to figure out what to tell work or to tell you guys to remove my from waitlist since I might not be available at any given moment, etc.

Thanks for all your guys work on this Smiley

Waitlisted and bonus are free, but is it asking you to pay? What's your GDQ account name? Anyone with progress/waitlist/bonus should not be asked to pay on the site (it'll tell you you're all paid up and ready in your profile).

johncarls: will run that by committee immediately.
Just curious, will donation incentives be released alongside the schedule, or are those going to come later?

Thanks Matty! I wouldn't bug you if it was just a waitlist situation, but it is confusing for two different categories of the same game to be waitlisted. I appreciate your help and am looking forward to being there either way!

No, schedule first, then incentives. We'll be moving to have them done as soon as possible though.
@CoolMatty
I'm in the same boat as johncarls. Still waitlisted, no comment and no one else running my category of portal.

Not quite the same situation. There is a run of Portal accepted, so you're not currently being scheduled.

I assume you edited your time at some point and was placed in pending, at which point you registered? Either way, I've deleted your registration, please re-register.
Hey, I am just curious to know why Jak and Daxter was waitlisted? was it just because you didn't want 2 Jak games?

I did register while my game was still pending. Thank you.

What's happening with star fox 64, one of the runners is waitlisted with no comment, and the other is waitlisted with the comment "Waitlisted to retain free registration post-runner sort." So the runners haven't been decided yet? As per Matty's comment I thought all runners were sorted now? Hoping the committee will consider a 4-way race, as all the runners are really hoping for a spot Smiley
