AGDQ 2016 Game Submissions Information (Submissions are now closed)

We had a couple of discussions about submissions, and we've decided that we're going to allow edits for incorrect or missing VODs.

We did not implement edit functionality yet, but we wanted to give you guys a heads up that it will be happening soon.

You will soon have the ability to edit your video, your run time and your availability if your run is Pending, Accepted, or Waitlisted.

So that Mike and the Games Committee don't have to go through a ton of games again, we're going to use the "Waitlist" status along with a comment to indicate that we're interested in your run if you can provide a video. Waitlisted runs that do not have a video may be rejected by gameslist time.

Please note that editing the VOD or Run Time of an "Accepted" submission will place it back in "Pending", and we may not accept it again. Make edits at your own risk and avoid editing your run for small changes to your PB.

Editing your availability will NOT revert your run back to "Pending."

"Rejected" runs can't be edited. If your game was declined and is not waitlisted, it is most likely for selection or game-related reasons that it was rejected and we will not be reconsidering it.

We will not be extending the submissions deadline.

As a reminder, inappropriate content (including troll videos, sexual, or offensive content) is subject to the Games Committee's discretion. If your submission or edits contain inappropriate text or videos, they may reject or block your submission and your ability to submit games to future events may be affected. If you aren't sure if what you're submitting is appropriate, you may want to leave it out. We understand if there are a few swear words here or there, but excessive amounts of swearing is generally inappropriate.

This is not the giant

For JumpJet Rex Co-op Adventure Normal, the game can only be played in co-op locally. This won't be a problem for the event itself, but because of this there isn't a way to showcase a co-op run between the high-level players. I could get one of my friends to do a quick and dirty run with me but it wouldn't accurately reflect the game's capabilities. If you're still considering the game, put it late on the schedule so that whoever is running it will have time to practice for a run while at the event

Are you trolling? That's a hilariously bad analogy.
I'll provide a somewhat equivalent analogy to the actual situation:
Out of the total (100+) pizzas ordered by GDQ, the toppings of 2 or 3 are chosen purely by event participants.

Even that isn't accurate because only 2-4 people can realistically eat a pizza, whereas every runner that votes/every viewer can consume/appreciate a competent speedrun.

If you have meaningful criticism (e.g. issues with logistics, feasibility, etc) I'd love to hear it, but nonsensical analogies are a waste of time.

So I'm stupid and I didn't see the part about adding additional categories to the same game submission. Do you think I will be able to manually combine the categories to the appropriate game? I'm sorry for the inconvenience.

Hey Sumichu, I have a question on those that were put back into the waitlist for pending VODs. Do we need to have those in by the end of the deadline, or will they carry over into round 2 as a waitlisted item until the VOD gets uploaded? I figure it's the former, but I just want to be sure!

That's something the committee has to decide. For now, it's ASAP, and if you want to be extremely safe, before submissions close is your best bet.

That's something the committee has to decide.  For now, it's ASAP, and if you want to be extremely safe, before submissions close is your best bet.

Is there a chance I could get an update on Halo 2? I know things are busy and there are a lot of things to go through, but I submitted 3 days ago and the turn around on my friend's games has been a day or less. Just making sure this one didn't get skipped over.

Could I get a reason for the Ocarina of Time Master Quest all dungeons and dungeon skulltulas rejection? And I know it might not be much considering it's a 3 hour run, but a new trick was just found (after I had already submitted) that saves about 5 minutes and skips the longest cutscene in the game, and the run already has a very low amount of cutscenes making it a very fast paced run with hardly any downtime, and all of the gameplay is significantly different from anything else in OoT.

Can someone who can speak on behalf of the committee give us a reason as to why Mega Man Battle Network Any% was rejected? I still feel this game showcases the absolute limitation a speedrunner can possibly attain, pushing the boundaries to borderline TAS (and I am not joking check out the runs RNG manipulation + Hunter's incredible movement).

Apologies if this is already mentioned somewhere or I missed the info, there is probably something since it is quite a big thread, but how do submissions work with co-op partners since there is no field in the form to input other players? Should my partner make an identical submission for himself as well, or will it be handled later during registration? I have everything filled out and ready to go for our two games but want to make sure of how to handle the co-op part before I submit it.

Co-op games should generally have both players submit, yes. This way we have all the info for both players in the system for the run.

Hmm, I notice that at least some submissions list the name of their co-op partner or race counterpart(s) in the run description. We haven't done that as we were trying to fit as much information about the run itself into the limit as we could. I hope that isn't a problem, but the fact that we submitted it pretty much simultaneously should make it obvious.

Assuming I hadn't missed information, in the future details about how to submit multiple people to the same run should be included in the first post, or (preferably) built into the submission form itself.

can anyone explain to me briefly why this run/runner was accepted into SGDQ?

the game, nor the runner are popular, the run doesn't appear to be unique, interesting or engaging in any way (as far as i can tell there is little to no tech aside from following a route), the commentary is largely redundant, and the runners pb is #17 on a leaderboard with 21 submissions.

why are runs like this accepted while runs like "all melons" (just one example of many interesting rejects) are not?

It fit the disney block theme i suppose. I enjoyed the run tbh didn't realize her time wasn't the best. But subjective is subjective I guess? I mean hell i'm not sure i had more than like 150 followers when i got my (albeit short) rygar run into sgdq. I did happen to have the best time but I was surprised myself that I got in. But I had a lot of fun and got to meet a lot of cool people. If anything its a good thing she got in to give hope to other people who don't think they are popular or are playing a slightly obscure game.
