Why reject Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories so quickly? The category's suggested have little RNG, the runner who requested them is consistent, and the game brought hype, viewers and donations at ESA. The game has changed a lot in the past year and the community has sky rocketed, please reconsider.

Plus a race is always exciting for Forbidden Memories and both racers are entertaining and skilled enough at the categories to make it worthwhile. It was a shame to see it instantly rejected even with a premade deck in there as it is pretty much guaranteed to go correctly.

This is quite true, personally I felt that the FM run at ESA brought a lot more hype during the section in which it was run. Consistency + skilled, dedicated, entertaining runners = a better marathon.

I did not want to speak up about this but with the support I am seeing I have, I am going to. Everything I say is out of respect of this marathon.

Forbidden Memories has a bad bias against it for being a meme speedgame and 100% RNG dependent. These opinions are incorrect. The people who have these opinions are people who have not attempted to learn the game.

Since last year, Forbidden Memories has changed. The game was too quickly rejected for these changes to be taken into account, and all I ask is for reconsideration. Why?

- The ESA run was a bad example of what this game can do for a marathon. Yes, it did DOUBLE the viewership during and then drop back down to its original numbers immediately after. Yes, the amount of donations during the run skyrocketed. And yes, the chat was entirely hype by people in the community of FM and by people not in its community. So why do I think it was a bad example? Simple; the runner did horribly. Mergy is a good friend of mine. He acknowledges he played horrifically during his run at ESA. He was nervous. The amazing part is how well it did in the marathon, and how well LIKED it was in the marathon, regardless of his horrible play. However, me and SSBMstuff will not play horribly. We will not get stage fright. If you give FM a chance, we can show you what a good run looks like, and how excited a community of gamers can get over it.

- The community BLEW UP after ESA. There are MANY more active runners than ever before, including some bigger names. What was once a group of 10 is now going up exponentially. FM is gaining popularity in a snowball effect, because so many people played it as a child and it is so enticing for so many to watch.

- The game is different. We have discovered quite a few things about the game that in general make it so much more consistent. The RNG level in the small runs requested is extremely low; it is mostly based on good play and split-second decision making. The estimates are VERY safe. I would be entirely comfortable making the estimate for World Tournament 45 minutes as I cannot see it going above that. I wanted to stay safe, however, and give a few minutes extra to show off some interesting things about the game.

- The commentary between me and SSBMstuff will FAR exceed the commentary at ESA. We are VERY knowledgable about the game and do not get stage fright. We can do this game justice, if you allow us to.

- World Tournament with a pre-made deck ELIMINATES the most RNG dependent part of the run; deck resets at the beginning. Also, Mergy got very greedy with his deck at ESA. He could've started his run FAR earlier. We will not make that mistake.

Even with ALL of the mistakes by Mergy at ESA, the game was still a HUGE success and was widely said to be a great run. Imagine how great it will be WITHOUT those mistakes, with better commentary! (A race would make the hype go to levels that cannot be fathomed)

Also, as for NG+, there is literally no way the run can go wrong. You get to see the entire game, while getting GREAT commentary, and seeing the games LIMITS. This is the best category for a race as it will be neck-in-neck for the majority of the run.

All I am asking is to please reconsider your decision. FM has rightful bias and prejudice, but it is not what it used to be. The game is different. It WILL be an asset to your marathon, and I strongly hope you reconsider.

Thank you for reading,

-GFC_

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the run at ESA was so successful, they asked Mergy afterwards to do a NG+ run later in the marathon and he did.

Hey. I submitted Ed Edd n Eddy The Mis-Edventures and it was rejected right off the bat almost immediately after i submitted it. Would it be rude to ask why? It got rekt less than 10 minutes aftrr i put it up.
When did this thread go from being information about submitting for the marathon to complaining about games that got rejected? I'm going to be submitting a game and if it gets rejected it gets rejected. I will be upset, yes, but it's their marathon and it is what they think is best for the marathon. Not to mention they are working on a tight time table, much tighter than in previous selections processes so they kind of have to have an idea of what games they want going into this whole process.
mwsf!
Typically people want to discuss the submissions, and maybe plead a game's case. Probably should be a different thread than the Info thread though.
I honestly don't mind that my run was rejected, but to see it get rejected in under 5 minutes without even a small note as to why it was rejected is a little disappointing.

Wanting some further explanation or transparency in the selection process is a fair reaction, IMO, and everyone so far has been very civil. Also, currently there's no provided thread for reacting to the games list.

Can a mod confirm whether this thread is okay for discussing the game list and asking about rejected games?

Terraffirmative!
This thread is fine for discussing selections. Right now there are a lot of technical problems being worked out so don't expect answers immediately, or possibly ever from staff on anything specific. Also, the staff actually involved with game selection will probably be busy processing the games.

Cool, thanks Smiley

I'm curious as to why Ty the Tasmanian Tiger and Ed, Edd 'n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures were rejected right off the bat.  Both are pretty interesting speedgames (Although a bit obscure) with cool movement and other things to show off, AND they've never been shown at a GDQ before.  Granted, I don't run either game, but I would've loved to have seen them ran at AGDQ.

Ty wasn't denied right off the bat. It took about an hour or two before it actually got rejected. However, as the runner who did submit it, I really would like to know why it got rejected (if possible) ESPECIALLY since it was accepted at SGDQ 2015, but was not run due to Papo not being able to make it. It would also be nice to know what I could do to improve the game's appeal for future GDQs!
Just to safe, when submitting, do I have to submit all of my games at once? Or can I submit one at a time?
GFC_
You need to submit them all at once.
Okay then. Thank you.

For Fun! For GLORY!!
Question. I'm still unsure as to the exact days I can attend. I'll probably be able to get 3 days to attend, but I can ask for them to be at any time during the marathon. Should I just put down that I'd be there for the whole marathon for now?

Eh, and another small one since I forgot. My game is a Wii game, but I play it on Wii U. Should I put the console the game was released for, or the console I'm ACTUALLY using to play it?

no more umbreons pls
So I have a really important question as far as submitting links to runs you've attempted for your game. For example, I noticed on the reddit someone mentioning people submitting a completed run with its "worst RNG" to prove it is marathon safe. For one of my runs, there are certainly some inescapable time losses to bad RNG (typical pokemon hax), and I have 3 runs that nearly completed the run, but died out within the last 5-10 minutes of the run because my pokemon died.

Am I allowed to include these close attempts (as long as I specify these are the close attempts) as well as my completed version?

Also to help establish that this run is definitely marathon safe, am I allowed to share more than 1 completed run to help my case that it can be completed within a time estimate?

And one last thing, if my run attempts that I'm submitting contain a certain number of swears, can it be noted that during the actual marathon I will keep my tongue very restricted on said swears in the submissions form? I ask because I don't want to be rejected for appearing to be an abrasive person, when on a marathon setting I'd be in a much more elevated mood.

The reason I ask is because even if the run itself ended in a loss, the process of watching the run is incredibly entertaining (in my opinion)

Put down wrong Category on 1 of my runs. You can probably see which one! FYI
Crawlathon WR, get down on my level.

Put down whatever dates you can show up.

Put down the console you need to play it on. If you don't need to play it on a Wii U, then put Wii, otherwise, put Wii U.

Submitted my run. Paws crossed. :3

Why is the description on a per-game and not per-category basis? It's terribly difficult to describe vastly different categories for the same game (in my case, DK64 any% and 101%) in the limited space. I can only imagine how bad it is for those who have 4 or 5 categories to submit on a single game.
0-10
See, I knew I shouldn't have even bothered putting effort into this submission. Doesn't even make it 10 hours and it's just dismissed. The number 10 is key is here, because that's now 10 marathons I've tried to get into, and all 10 have turned up butkus.

This whole process is just one giant farce.

Just wanting to make sure, I submitted my game but on the "My Submissions" page I have the Summer Games Done Quick 2015 header, also I can't find my game in the submission list.

Is that normal ?

Oh uhh. Wish I saw this sooner because I literally just submitted my runs lol. Will we be able to edit submissions at a later date, especially if it gets past First Cuts?
Games are being rejected really quickly this year, in a shorter time than the runs themselves, so i'm sure each game is being given its fair consideration. So many games for a short period of time. lol

SPEEDruns not SAFEruns
I'm just going to throw this out to anyone with questions. Your run isn't what they're looking for. I'm sure it's a great speed game and you love it, but pretty much everyone here has been rejected for every marathon they've tried to get into. Continue to improve your consistency and commentary while optimizing the game further. Better luck next time.
For Mega Man X6:

Is there a particular reason why "We'll consider this if done on normal" is there? Normal only adds RNG and HP to the bosses, and makes the run more volatile and less marathon safe, and adds a lot more time to the estimate based on RNG that easy difficulty removes. The overall runs look pretty identical, and if you're familiar with the game at all, you'd know that.
I haven't done my submissions yet, but X6 is one that I will submit, and although I'm capable of doing the run on normal difficulty, it just doesn't make any sense at all to do so in a marathon for speed runs.
