I was just gonna take a cab. But trains don't get stuck in traffic. So maybe that's a better idea. Either way I doubt it'll cost more than the 125 extra i'd pay to fly into Dulles. We'll see when the event gets closer. Still waiting for dat roommate thread. Will I be able to use the military rate and the event rate together?

It'll be up once people are able to start reserving rooms with the group code/second cuts/whatever else I'm forgetting. Expect it by the end of the month/early October.

Oops. Thanks mang. I  obviously haven't done this before so I appreciate all the answers.

Neerm, they are offering us free wi-fi for our event. It is true that they don't normally offer free wi-fi though.

Even if it's not, I'd bet money on Dulles being your preferred airport to fly into.

For those curious about how airports look in the DC area, we usually list these three:

* Washington Dulles International Airport (IAD)
* Baltimore Washington International Airport (BWI)
* Reagan National Airport (DCA)

You do not want to fly in to BWI since it is closer to Baltimore than it is to Washington, DC. I only mention it since there was a hotel in the state of Maryland that was previously considered. If you are flying internationally, you want IAD. IAD is closer to the current hotel being considered since a shuttle is being offered, and it is also the only remaining airport on this list that you can fly directly to, since DCA is not an international airport.

Those flying domestically can elect to fly to DCA and take the Metro + bus or a shuttle to the venue. However, in my previous experience I have found that flying to and from IAD is less expensive than DCA. This might not be the case depending on where you're flying in from, so make sure to check both airports. For me personally, the only reasons I've ever chosen DCA over IAD is because I used to live in downtown Washington, DC. It was more convenient for me to simply take the Metro to the airport than to book a shuttle, and when I lived in DC I only ever went on domestic flights.

If you are flying internationally and need to book immediately, like dsx, choose IAD. Shuttles and services from IAD will be able to get you pretty much anywhere in the immediate area.

Anyway, I currenty live in the DMV area, though no longer in Washington, DC proper, and will be carpooling with two friends with whom a hotel room will be split. mikwuyama or others, do you know how much parking will cost? My apologies if it was previously stated and I missed it. We're currently going over costs to prepare for our trip.
Dapper as fuck.

This is a good question, as I will most likely drive also if weather isn't terrible.

Parking is free. The hotel has plenty of parking.

I think I mentioned this earlier, but the airport you want is IAD, followed by DCA. You don't want to fly into BWI unless if you save a *lot* (150+ dollars) because it's really far from the hotel (at least 45-50 minute drive).

Thanks Mike Smiley
Any updates on the official hotel choice? Are we going with Hilton Dulles for sure?
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Yes, I know it's been a while, but I've been handed the contract and I'm going over it with the hotel right now. The contract should be done and signed by this week.
Okay cool, just checking in Smiley
My feelings on The Demon Rush
I have a final draft of the contract (had to get some adjustments), and the contract will definitely be signed by next week, and reservations should start then too.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
The contract has been signed so hotel reservations should be open soon.
Meow Meow!
I am so hyped right now! Cannot wait to meet everybody and watch the runs! Smiley

I have a question about the hotel reservations. I'd love to reserve a room at the Hilton Dulles since I'm out of state and don't know the DC area, and I know that GDQ is getting a block rate. Is the block rate only good for a set amount of rooms? I mean if, say, the block is only good for 100 or 200 rooms and I book a room, does that potentially deny a runner from getting a room?

I ask because I am not a runner, just a fan who is setting aside a few weeks to come out and be there in person. Or is the block rate only good for runners and event staff? In which case I'll just look around the area and shop based on regular price.

Any help would be appreciated. I'm stoked about coming out, but I want to avoid overstepping any boundaries especially if the block of rooms is preset to a number determined by runners and event staff. Thanks!

There are a certain amount of rooms in the block rate (it's 140 for the marathon proper), but we can extend the block to accommodate more rooms as long as if they're available at the hotel.

Since we will be staying during the winter months, spoilers, there will very likely be spare rooms. The only exception to this is if we somehow hit 900-1000 attendees, then I would stop simply because it would get too big if we had past 1000 people there.

I dont remember what was said, but are king rooms available as part of the group code? And are they the same rate?

I'll ask specifically how many drcoolguy, but yes and yes.

Alright, cool thanks. Can you also ask if there's a pull-out couch/how they differ in layout or anything? Trying to assess whether four people can comfortably live in one.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
When they showed me a King room, I don't remember there being a couch.
Can I use my military discount with the group rate? When I went to test reserve a room to see what it would be with the military discount but no group rate, selecting the military discount didn't block me from typing in the group rate box or anything like that. So it seems like I could use both but not sure. Also, if I choose to stay up the first and last night and not actually use a room those nights, will I be allowed into the event hall for the night? Or would I need to have my room booked for the whole time I'm there?

I think that might be something to ask the hotel. I don't think Mike has anything to do with the way that the hotel applies the group rates vs the military discounts, but I could be wrong.
Right. Just thought maybe it had been asked before or something similar.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Ziggirawk, I'll ask the hotel about military discounts tomorrow.
I submitted an inquiry. Should get an answer soon.
