I created my run in direct response to its poor response at AGDQ 2012, which is what inspired me to re-invent the game from the ground up in a way that screams hype. Around six people started learning the game in the last week alone, after I completed my run. A few GDQ regulars were also really looking forward to it, including Trihex and Cosmo. Are you sure you can't reconsider?

Just gonna throw in a word. Do you have a link or a video of the run? Honestly, if it's very different, there's a chance it could be reconsidered. Besides, I'd love to watch it.

im going to have to side with IE6 with this one. he clearly put a lot of work into the game. here's his highlight vid:

That actually made me want to run this game :O , awesome!!!

1. I'll consider it. This game is popular and that video is pretty funny, but I haven't really seen a speedurn of the game. I will tell you that we won't be able to capture everyone's screen if this makes the final cut, two at most. That and we'll need to know the setup wayyyyyyyyyy in advance if we don't want to take a million hours like l4d2 setup did.

2. hahahah yes plz.

3. Eh I feel like if we try to fit in short games it should be something stronger, more well-known, or goofier.

Borderlands 2:  One or Two screens would capture everything thats going on glitchwise in a run so no issue there.  Also the time is bound to come down and all of us are willing to work hard to make the setup issue free.

Surgeon Simulator 2013: Missy and I would love to do this Co-Op more people just means more glitches and hilarity!

Hello all!

My twitch page is:  http://www.twitch.tv/ctconqueror

Here are the games I run:

Mickey Mousecapade (Any%):  [10:00]  It seems that there aren't many of us that run this, but those who watch my stream request runs of this a good bit.  It's a standard platformer, also a quick one, though it can get really entertaining because of Minnie Mouse (she follows you around, and is invincible except for falling into pits).  There aren't any real sequence breaks or glitches, just a good bit of damage boosting.

These next games I'm sure you have a bunch of people already, I just wanted to post them in case some races were organized.

Super Mario World (Any%, Any% No Cape): [13:00]  I consider this my main speedrunning game.  I race with a big group of people on a regular basis, and have a ton of fun with it.

Super Mario Bros. 2 (Any%): [15:00]  I recently learned this category, and it's been pretty fun so far.

Thanks for reading.  I have highlights for all personal best runs on my twitch channel.  I would love to run Mousecapade, or even race, but either way I hope AGDQ goes great.

I have a very minimal chance of going, but I'm gonna offer stuff I could do if I hypothetically could. More so curious to hear what the verdict would be on my offers if I could go.

Sly Cooper and the Thievius Raccoonus: Any% or 100% (could decide or do bidding war, though there's an hour difference)

Very awesome PS2 platformer. Any% is a showcase run with a lot of tricks, and tends to be one of the more popular of my runs. 100% is also very entertaining with a lot of its own great tricks, and also uses a lot of playing in fast forward which makes it a little interesting + people love completion runs.
Any% ET: 1:35:00
100% ET: 2:45

Spyro the Dragon: Any% or 120%

One of my stronger games, system defining game for the PS1. Not many tricks, but it's a very optimized game with impressive gameplay. Both runs are good watches.
Any% ET: 45:00
120% ET: 1:55:00

Mega Man X: any% or 100%

I don't think I need to say much about this, very popular game that's been done lots before, but maybe it'll make good filling if there are other MM games to make a healthy block. Since everyone who's offered to run this so far is a beast, I honestly just think it should be a giant race. I give my word that everyone who's offered are really good and will put on a good show, WR pace or not.
Any%: 40:00
100%: 45:00

Ape Escape 3: Any% or Any%2 (All Monkeys)

The Ape Escape games are very entertaining games that don't get enough representation. Both runs also have a lot of little breaks and movement optimization. I would consider them a great watch, despite runner's bias.
Any%: 1:35:00
Any%2: 3:00:00

Aladdin (SNES version): Any%

Really great platformer, and short. Could be good filler.
ET: 25:00

Like I said, I don't see the odds being great of going, but I would like to see if any of these would have a chance if I did go. All of the longer categories I'm offering simply cause I can do them, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were disregarded cause of the length.

The only game I'd like to offer is Ocarina of Time 3D. Although marathons get a lot of OoT, this version is way way way completely DIFFERENT! Although slightly longer it is certainly not less entertaining, sporting some tricks in the original version and many new ones which are even crazier than what can be done on console in my opinion. I've been working on this game for a very long time so I can promise a pretty optimized run. Also this would be its marathon debut! ;^)

100% - Shows off most of what this game has to offer [5:40:00]

Medallions/Stones?Trials - Insane route and uses the majority of major breaks/skips [2:45:00]

Any% - Pretty bland category but beats the game in a very short time [0:50:00]

Hi all had tons of fun at SGDQ and am hoping to make it to AGDQ, here's what I can offer.

Diddy Kong Racing

100% is first priority because it offers more gameplay and shows off more of the game than any% does, and is also different than SGDQ's run. I also hold WR for 100%. Any% would still be fine, as it is very glitch infested and interesting.
100%: 2:10:00
Any% just in case: 1:00:00 (not sure why skeletonbill put 50:00 when my WR is 50:49)
Donation incentive would be glitched text storage

Super Mario Sunshine

Yes paradoxkarl already offered this, but he said he doesn't mind if I offer it because I'm 4 minutes faster. It had a lot of hype at SGDQ and I could bring it back with our couch crew. (also you (mike) could watch this time w/out talking about poop) Wink
Any%: 1:45:00

Also, a race could be possible for Super Mario Sunshine. Blkyoshi's current time is very close to me, and our routes for shines are exactly the same. Just a thought for now.

Disney Extreme Skate Adventure: I've put a video below of a run I did back in February. The WR is around 17minutes now, so it's a bit more polished than this. I admit that it's not the most well-known game ever, but I've seen that first time viewers from certain online marathons I've played it in have reacted extremely positive to it. If we are having a Tony Hawk block this year anyway, it could be a fun addition even as a donation game. It's so hype.

Chances of me going are slim to none but I thought I'd still offer in the off chance I could still go.

The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap (Any% Estimate: 2:20:00) Enjoyable run to watch. Very good marathon run since there's not many risky glitches/tricks making it very difficult for you to lose more then 10 minutes. Minish Cap also deserves a good run at a -GDQ marathon with the not so great run of SGDQ 2011.
I will do any% for Banjo-Kazooie if that would be preferred

American Wasteland: You're already on the schedule for it. I'm honestly kind of shocked you didn't offer the main series games.

I haven't played them much recently. I'd definitely be okay with THPS3 being a donation incentive. It's short enough that it could be squeezed in somewhere if we get ahead of schedule.

Also, showing my support for Disney Extreme Skate Adventure!
Quote from mikwuyma:
No Time to Explain isn't really awful, it's pretty good with a some wasted potential. :-/

Well in that case, is there any consideration for it in the main marathon? I understand if it's not, but I just thought it would be more fitting for the awful block.
My feelings on The Demon Rush
Page 9 stuff:

SMK:

Kabuki: This game is pretty fun and fast-paced. Also, you did save AGDQ 2013 so it would almost be a crime if I didn't give you at least one game.

Psychonauts: I love this game, but I'm not sure if it should back right now. I know there's the new Gloria door skip, but I'm not sure that's quite enough. Maybe in a future GDQ.

Dust: Already explained to Vulajin

blkyoshi: I'm considering any%, but I think 100% is just too long, especially considering how much Mario is being offered. If you're down for any%, I could consider you for a race. Toufool told me you're on the same skill level as him.

ilikebeingsmart: Puzzle games generally just don't get hype at marathons. We've tried them multiple times (kirby's avalanche, tetris attack, and dr. mario 64), but the reactions have been middling at best. :-/

Bosby: I've talked with some people, and they told me this was like speedrunning harvest moon, not a whole lot going on. It's a popular game, but the speedrun sounds like it wouldn't be a very good watch.

Bonesaw577:

1. We haven't had a Jak and Daxter game at a marathon before, and the game does have a good amount of tricks. Putting it on the list.

2. Wario Land 4 is definitely a good speedrun game, but I just haven't seen a lot of hype or viewers for Wario Land games in general. Going with no on this one.

Dai: Banjo-Tooie hasn't been done in a marathon before and it's a good platformer. It's at least worth considering, putting it on the list.

Wymorn:

Skyrim: It worked as a bonus game last AGDQ, but I didn't see a lot of excitement for it otherwise. Skyrim is definitely a game that sold a lot, but doesn't seem to resonate much as a speedrun.

Mass Effect: Same boat as Skyrim but wasn't a bonus game. The bid wars did pretty well, but the reaction to the game itself seemed a bit

Indextic: I have seen almost no interest in the Darkness 2 between when you pitched it for SGDQ and now.

Duke Bilgewater:

Zoo Race: THERE'S A CAIN TRAIN?!?!?!? I'm sold. As I mentioned before, we'll try to upgrade the stream computer so it can handle races.

Hotline Miami: We'll see about Cubeface's ability closer to the marathon. I agree this game could be a great race, especially since there isn't a lot you have to explain in the game.

Donkey Kong Country: Well Hippie suggested it, so I guess I'll yield to him.

Simpsons: Hit and Run: I really don't know anything about this game. I'm not really sold on it considering all of the strong offers I've had, but I'll try watching the video sometime.

Animal Crossing: Maybe the any% category is short enough to be a joke bonus game? I'd have to know more about the the any%.

Yagamoth:

Secret of Mana: Already on the list.

IBWTG: The main thing holding this game back was the crashes, and those have been solved. I think this could be a big hit. Also, dev commentary hype. Cheesy Adding it to the list.

I think Gaiden should be tacked on as a donation incentive.

Boshy: It seems like this is 4chan+twitch memes the game. I know this game has been big on people's streams in the past, so I think it's worth trying this. Since you want to give it to Irelandofendor the game and he apparently offered it pages later, I'll give it to him (unless if someone better comes along).

ChocoPoptart:

Antichamber: Okay this is already been offered, but we'll see who is best for the game in a couple of weeks or so. (okay I forgot to put in the other players so I'll put them in later)

Nitronic Rush: I know absolutely nothing about this game. Do you have a video?

Iceplug:

Already rejected gunpoint when Chrno suggested it, and Krusty's Fun House is quite obscure and I'm not sure if the skill involved would translate on stream, going with no.

UrBoyGraham: JSRF is definitely faster-paced than the original JSR. It's definitely cult-classic status and might be worth doing. No guarantees but putting it on the list for now.

Ballyn: Added for antichamber (look at chocopoptart).

Red Faction 2 I'm not really hyped on. Iknow the games were kind of popular back in the day, but it doesn't strike me as strong as some of the offerings we've had for FPS games.

Wayvez: I love Alien Soldier, and it's honestly one of the better Treasure games to speedrun. I think it's worth considering, though 53 minutes is way high as an estimate. I'm going to set it at 45 minutes, so get better! Tongue

Mitorequiem: I talked to zewing and he said you were serious about putting in the practice, so I'll put you on the list to race the games for now. I might cut back on the x3 race just because some stuff might need explaining. (it's been a while since x3 has been in a marathon)

Neviutz:

FFXII: As I mentioned earlier, the FFXIII games have such a love/hate mixed reaction that I don't think they're really a great idea for a marathon.

Catherine: I'm still not entirely sold on it, going with no.

Resonance of Fate: This is a cult rpg with few donation incentives, no.

Duckfist:

ninja gaiden 2: I think with a donation goal or bid war for sword-only or pacifist, it's worth doing. Putting it on the list.

super c: already down

Zephyrz: The GB version doesn't have the WTF factor the nes version has. I don't think it's worth doing.

Also, that's good about antichamber because I forgot to put you on as a runner anyway. <_<

firedragon764: I feel like if we wanted this game in a marathon, we'd want a skips run because he game isn't terribly fast or anything, so the skips would make it more entertaining.

stonenot: Fallout 3 is very broken, but there's also a lot of running around through nothing. Going with no.

xfullmetal17:

Ducktales Remastered: Okay another one for the list.

Braid: I mean this could be done better, but at the same time it's been in two marathons in a row, and it's a pretty good speedrunning game, but there's not a whole lot new going on with it and it's not super popular either. No.

Shiner: Breakdown said that Faxanadu was borderline for CGDQ, that's saying a lot. It's honestly not a very good speedrun to watch. Turrican is definitely fast-paced and a good game, but unfortunately it's too obscure.

dertswa: shmups are a really niche genre, and while Akai Katana is one of the newer Cave games, I would say it's not one of the more well-known ones (I would say Mushihime Sama and DDP are the two most well-known). Going to have to say no.

Hi.

http://www.twitch.tv/newpants87

Throwing in my name for Donkey Kong Country 2.  [any% 50 min estimate]  It's my main game.  The optimization has changed drastically from the time Essentia did her run at sgdq and much more polished from last agdq.  Would enjoy a big race with all the other dkc2 runners that are going.  If no race, I'd love to see Reflected doing it.

Ecco any% (with the camera glitch). [30 min estimate]  I've raced this a few times with halfbaked and vorpal.  The glitch hasn't been shown off at a marathon or ever really.  Not sure how well it'd be received; I'm no blueglass heh.

Jungle Book (snes).  [35 min estimate]  It's really fast paced and a bunch of the dkc2 community have shown a lot of interest in it.  There are quite a few 1-frame tricks that are straightforward.  IMO, a solid platformer with really hard bosses.

Otaku Gamer: Great game, but it's been done at the last two AGDQs and I don't see a whole lot new going on with it except for doing the main game, which as you stated, has additional downtime in between bosses.

There are many games that you guys have selected for AGDQ games list does have been there for multiple years such as.
Darkwing Duck 2012, 2013
Donkey Kong Country 2 2011, 2012, 2013
Doom 2012, 2013
Mega Man x 2012, 2013
Metroid Zero Mission 2012, 2013
Ninja Gaiden 2012, 2013
Castlevania nes 2012, 2013
Resident Evil 4 2011, 2012, 2013
Sonic 2 2011, 2012, 2013

and so on
so I don't know why this would be a issue.

There have been new tricks found on multiple colossi such as #3 #6 #7 #9 #14 and #15 for Time trial. For example

Colossi 3: There is whole new way to get on top of his head and it is much more consistent.
Colossi 4: There is an amazing jump that you're able to do to get on top of him now.
Colossi 6: There is a way to glitch the colossi so you're able to go straight to his head.
Colossi 9: You can jump from his hand to his head which skips a cutscene and a luring part of the boss.
Colossi 14: You can lure the coloss to the last pillar and jump off of it's shoulder to the pillar and able to skip a large portion of the battle. There is a fairly small amount of people who have seen this skip.
Colossi 15: you can jump from his leg to his chest instead of using his belt.

All of these have been found pretty recently. With newer tricks coming out it will impressed more people and it has improved a lot since the last AGDQ. I can understand the main game not being there. Here is one of the newer tricks.
I would like you to reconsider Shadow of the Colossus.
Speed is all that matters.

Fair enough. I will not disagree about the love/hate mix, however I don't think you can necessarily dump both, FF13 and FF13-2, together into "the FF XIII games".
While it's true one of them is the sequel to its prequel, it's also true that there's quite a good amount of people that considered 13-2 a lot better than its prequel thus being an improvement over the first game of the XIII series.

I respect your decision but I figured I should point this out at least.

Haunting Ground: Horror games generally haven't had the greatest responses in marathons, on-site or online. The problem is that a lot of them have running through corridors without a whole lot going on. No.

I agree with the first part, however, running through corridors in this game there is generally a lot of possibility going on. I am going to assume you haven't seen or played this game. Throughout the game there is always the possibility of a "pursuer" showing up randomly and causing you to have to quickly change the route. There's also a lot of dealing with the dog Hewie. A lot of the game is spent trying to convince Hewie to both not hate you and not be scared of everything. There's a lot of corridors being ran though, but there's generally something going on in them.

I would happily be willing to stream this game for you at some point if you would like. But I do understand where you are coming from with typical survivor horror games.

Dishonored: This game is already on the schedule, but is non-lethal/ghost% something like silent assassin in hitman games or foxhound in mgs games where you don't get detected?
FEZ: This game seemed to do decently when it was released, but I really don't know a whole lot about it aside from the rotating mechanic. It looks kinda like Braid?

Dishonored NLG: Yes that is what ghost is. Dishonored is supposed to be a stealth game but you lose that in any% runs. The NLG category requires never being detected by hostiles. It uses some really interesting and impressive routes as well as category specific glitches to accomplish this. You could also possibly have a bidding war between the two categories. If the times difference is too much I could run the DLC (about 20m exactly) along with Any%.

FEZ: it is a bit similar to Braid in that it is a 2D indie platformer but it has a very distinct feel. The main mechanic is rotating the world in 3D while platforming in 2D to achieve things that shouldn't be possible. It's also much more based on platforming than puzzling vs Braid and is faster paced.

Quote from mikwuyma:
As I mentioned earlier, the FFXIII games have such a love/hate mixed reaction that I don't think they're really a great idea for a marathon.

The hate reactions for FFXIII is mostly because of the first game in the series. There's a general aknowledge that XIII-2 was a better game, but some people are still just hating on the XIII-series as a whole (some hate comes off from the XIII-3 currently in production as well).
That said there are also some who, as you say youself, love the changes and new things that XIII-2 does - so I would say it's closer to the love/hate relationship used to describe FFVII than what I felt you made it sound like.

With the donation incentitives I see a lot of opportunities. As Neviutz stated there is the Monster Crystal Routes, but also costumes, Monster naming (works like character naming in many other FF games), doing additional bosses post game - such as classic Gilgamesh or beating Lightning (which could harvest off the XIII "hate") are ones I can think of. I'm sure the better runners can give better details on the possibilities if needed Smiley

I understand the reasoning behind cutting both of my suggestions, but Skyrim has improved immensely over the past year.  As a speedrun, it's popularity has exploded (It is definitely my most popular game at about 200+ viewers on average).  Most of the tricks that made it a questionable speedrun have been meted out. Primarily the ones related to clipping that were inconsistent and got "boring".  I also had the idea to have a donation war between Khajiit and Orc as the race used in the run (both use different strategies and Khajiit is sort of comical) and naming the character, as well as a possible donation incentive for a fan favorite category that takes about 3-4 minutes.

Like I said I agree the reception of last year's run was lukewarm at best but I feel like it has redeemed itself as a speedrun in the past year.

As far as Mass Effect goes, I pretty much expected it to get cut without question, but appreciate the consideration.
@tiburonCS
Honestly, I think it's probably a good idea to keep disputes about individual games out of this thread. Either PM or talk to Mike via other means.
We require more minerals
Why? This is the games thread, this is where these types of discussions happen. As long as they're civilized I would say let the mods decide if it should go somewhere else or not.
Yeah, productive civilized comments are fine, unless someone wants to start a "Game Discussion thread."

That said, I'd add that while FF13-2's gameplay and story for the most part is not as hated as FF13, the ending just flat-out stinks and leaves the same bad taste in your mouth.  Not relevant mainly for a speedrun, but it doesn affect how people think of the game and how they might want to watch.

That makes perfect sense. It is definitely understandable that skips would make it more entertaining. Almo and I would like to suggest a race for Mario Kart 64 150cc All Cups (Skips) [Estimate: 45:00] instead if that would be better and more exciting!
