So I did the maths, there is from 8 to 10 seconds wasted on my PB which allows me to think a sub 10 is the very best this route can provide.

Sub 10:05 is clearly possible but it requires :
- Skipping the 6 coins blocked but the bushes near Random and taking them later with the gun. It saves about 2s but forces you to collect all the coins on your way to buy the map.
- Succeeding the super high jump on first try,
- Better sheep minding if possible,
- Less coins missing.

I've started thinking about new route but the only thing that came to my mind is to skip the double jump before exploring the night part's upper area but this is damn risky !
So this is kind of funny... before coming back here and noticing your video and latest post, I got a 10:15 on my route, then based on a misinterpretation of what you said about talking to Random at a different time, I actually thought you were already doing the 6-blocked-coins skip, and decided to try it.

I didn't record my first attempt because I figured I would screw it up based on muscle memory.  I'm an idiot for not recording it, because I got 10:06.  Sub-10:05 is definitely possible.  I'd be a better judge on sub-10 if I'd actually recorded this one. :/

Indeed, skipping those 6 blocked coins requires you to get all the coins in that route in the initial first area visit in order to get the Map.  What it does end up saving time with later is killing that "first" sheep and getting those 6 coins a little faster.

RE skipping the double jump before the night upper area, yeah, that was my initial thought, and I realized it was crazy and that picking up double jump first costs about 5 seconds which isn't awful given that the alternative involves 3 additional frame-perfect high-jumps (or one frame-perfect high-jump and two double-jumps using the edge of the cliff).

Your 10:08 has some really great execution.  Here are the thoughts I had:

* do a high jump to save a bit of time jumping back up from where the first sheep is (skip the middle 'step')
* it's possible to avoid the extra jump when coming out of the hidey-hole on the right if you wait until after you fall off the platform before jumping
* in the night area, slow up to avoid missing that first coin on the way to the drop into the cave
* menu uses seem a little bit slow... work on remembering the exact input sequences for each so you can just rattle them off blind
* you only have to shoot once to avoid the extra messages with Random and to kill the Troll (doesn't save any time but looks better)
Damn, you really should record all of your attempts. Next time it will be a sub 10 you won't record ^^.

I may have misunderstood what you wrote but you want to skip the 6 coins plus the first sheep ? Time will be lost as we go back to kill the sheep don't you think ?

Thanks for the advices, I know my menuing is a bit slow, especially in the end, definitely one of the things I have to work on. And for the Random speech skip I know but as the run went better and better, I got nervous.

I think we'll have a better idea about the sub 10 as runs got better.
I guess we each have slightly different understandings of the alternate initial route.  Here is what I have been practicing now:

* Proceed as normal up until grinding 10 times and collecting the coins around the signposts.  At this point, continue left instead of going back to Nickel.
* Drop down to get the 5 coins near the sheep.
* Jump up to get the coins on the higher platforms, going for the 3 to the right before the 10 to the left, then drop down and continue to Random.
* Go back to the right, buy Time is Money, grind the sword, then continue right.

I'm honestly not sure this even saves 2 seconds.  You save time by not having to 3-hit the sheep and cut through the bushes, which I would guess might save about a second each at most.  However, in exchange, you have to grab those extra 3 coins up top, and drop down to shoot the sheep later, which probably costs around a second total.

Were you actually suggesting just skipping those coins by the bushes but still getting the sword at the same time we do now?  I'd be concerned that would save even less time ultimately since you still have to 3-hit the sheep.

Managed to record a 10:03.151 run with the new route:

(edit: obsoleted again, see next post)

I haven't analyzed how much time is wasted but yeah I wouldn't be surprised if it adds up to sub-10.

I noticed Chienglier des Steppes managed to get a sub-10 time, congrats!  That certainly confirmed our suspicions - and gave me another target to shoot for Tongue

Today I've managed a 9:58.770 time, but am pretty convinced 9:55.x should be technically possible.  It mostly comes down to making the fewest mistakes on this route now, but I did discover (maybe others already knew this) that the Start button also advances text / makes selections in the shop, so I can button-mash faster by alternating between A and Start rather than just mashing A.  That might give me a second or two over the course of the run.

Edit: this run is now obsolete too, as I've managed 9:55.919, partly thanks to the suggestion to not get the 15 coins to the right when you first start.  I recorded that run but it's got a really stupid shop menu brainfart in it, and I know I can still do better.
Thanks, congrats to you !

Didn't knew about the start button but I was using the space button with the same effect. Maybe it will be easier with the start.

I found a new route, just after talking to Nickel for the first time there is no need to go to his right and grab the 15 coins since we can grab it later. I think it can save about 5s which may set our goal to a sub 09:50 !!
Heh, that's a really good point.  Clearly I've been too stuck in my ways from getting used to the previous route. Smiley

RE the controls, it seems keyboard behaves a little differently than gamepad, so yeah, it looks like alternating between space and X would be the equivalent to A/Start on the gamepad.  (When using the X360 controller, A is what the UI normally tells you to use to advance text.)
I was too, I took a week or so without playing, helped me thinking about all the route with a more detached mind.

And I am also using a 360 controller, space/A works too.
BTW, after speaking w/ the #1 guy on the leaderboard, I feel confident now that those weird leaderboard times are using something like an infinite coins cheat.
Now we know ^^. Do you have any information about this cheat/glitch ? Like can it be used in a valid run or is it more like the "early gun glitch" ? Even if we can't use it, knowing the process can be interesting.
I don't, but it most likely just uses CheatEngine or a trainer. Knowing how DLC Quest tracks coins, it makes sense.

I'd test cheating it myself, but I don't want to put a cheated time on the leaderboards. Tongue

What is the WR of any% bad ending?
Cney's run is a 4:24. I don't have info about a better time. Planning to run it ? PC or X360 ?

That's funny you're posting now, I started derusting my 100% run yesterday ^^.

I found a little menuing improvement. While buying the Double Jump DLC I also buy the Movement Pack and the Sound Pack and when I buy Gun + Night Map + Warfare I also buy the Pause Pack.
Buying those require the same among of inputs but saves 5 inputs overall and make menuing even easier since you just have to mash A when you're in the shop menu.

May saves half a second but hey ! improvement is improvement. Moreover it makes the run more enjoyabe to watch for non-runners since you get sound and movement after 4 min et not at the end of the run.

Holy shit it  was a long time since i was here, i just started running this game again on pc (used to run on xbox) and got a 4.30 on xbox with bad ending, so im gonna start running it on pc to see if i can improve that time
Hi everyone, I just noticed today someone called Clymore! made a 9:52 on the 100% Leaderboard. Do anyone knows about him ?
It really motivates me to run this game again.
As I promised to Chienglier - here's a video:

When I watch this now, there's so many mistakes. It's WR only because I made hardest jump on a first try. Well, I was little stressed, because I knew it will be my PB. Sub 9:50 is fairly possible, but I don't have motivation to do it right now. :|
The first part is really neat, the only part where you mess things is in the cave. According to your run, 9:50 seems way more doable than I imagined. I just have a question. Why do you take the armor pack at the beginig ? Is it for the coins collecting to be smoother ?

When you mention it now, there isn't really any particular reason. Leaving that pack can even save few milliseconds, because you need less inputs in the the shop.

must be gettin' tired
Pretty solid execution but I can't figure why you restart your run. Is that to perform some skip ? If it's the case you must add the time it took to set that glitch.
must be gettin' tired
no this was just an editing error. I realised it after i uploaded the video. You see just the first to minutes of a run i missed a coin when you lock closely you can see it than i restarted and the real run starts.
Ok, nice. There's only two things I see to optimize your run: killing the RPG guy with your gun before you enconter him the second time allows you to skip the whole diaolgue. You still have to kill him after in order to earn the "everything for an achivement" though. And not taking the armor upgrade might make your menuing a bit quicker but it's no major change.

Why do you pause the game just after getting the gun ?

the pausing happens sometimes because of spamming through dialogue. You can skip text not only with the A button but also with the Start button. So i just spam both buttons and sometimes after a dialogue the pause menu opens because i spam to much.

And wow after 60 hours and over 500 tries i learned somthing new. I never realised you just can press B and than shot Random. This should save between 2-2.5 sec. Okay to do this you must shot before the encounter starts.

Also i will slightly change the route. Picking later the horse armor and the zombie pack. This makes it a lot easier to spam through the shop. Until now my sum of best was 9:26.39 but with this changes it should be possible for sub 9:25.
