YI runner here, starting to get into YNI. Would there be any interest in a wiki for the game, similar to the one for Yoshi's Island? Seems like it would be a better resource than digging through this thread when it gets bigger and looking through all the Twitch vods.

I'd be willing to do much of the work, and anyone would be free to help out. If anyone would not want their content used, they could just send me a message here or on SRL irc. Proper credit will be given for everything.

Looking forward to learning the game more and discovering new stuff with you guys.
OMG dude, i just got a 2:24:20 and my sum of bests is 2:14:32 SOOO HYYPEEE!!!!
Has anyone figured out the 5-8 boss yet and a way to make him consistent? I can't find any way to manipulate him, and I just have to hope he puts his head spikes away sooner rather than later. Even hitting the head right as he puts the spikes away, it feels like there is over a minute of RNG on this fight because sometimes he just won't let you hit his head.
idk scykoh, i can usually do it in 11 to 13 eggs.

I always get him with 4-6 you just want to watch for the top head in phases 1 and 2.  When they wiggle shoot an egg.  In phase 3 kill 1 or 2 body parts before going for the head.  I've only gotten the 3 egg once but 9/10 times it won't be worth it because the timing that the head is vulnerable is indeed random.  However I believe killing it's yellow spawns may encourage it to go down sooner.  One time I had like 5 on screen and he didn't go down until I killed the spawns.  Also congrats on all the PB's guys!  Hope to see someone beat my time soon. Smiley And a wiki would be AMAZING!! I was really hoping there'd be one even before the game came out.
I put up the basics on http://yni.wikia.com. I think all you need is a Wikia account to edit, so hopefully we can get a lot of content on it.

Just added a page on spit bouncing
Nice! I wrote a bit about it on the "advanced tricks" page, but extra info is great. I'll merge them sometime.

Today I started routing/learning 100%.  I'm going to try to learn and potentially upload 3 vids a day.  Today I have done 1-1 and I'm working on 1-3 and perfecting 1-2.  Here are my 1-1 starts and another video that show the proper way to do parts where i choked.

I just got a 1:42:14 any% but it had 1 stupid death in it that cost like a minute.  Rest was just really poor movement.  I'll try to improve tonight.
EDIT: I got a 1:40:48 last night lol. Almost there :p
I have found a very useful speedrunning strat for this game. Instead of continuously ground pounding the posts into the ground, just repeatedly hit the jump button as you hit it.
You can just hold down and pound the pole to the ground. Or do you mean something else? I tried and didn't see any difference.
Hey everybody. I am getting interested in speedrunning this game as well. Question. Would 100% runs include the challenges unlocked via the medals?  I assume not? Has anyone figured out a way to avoid getting/or purposely get medals yet? Is any% the preferred category right now?

Hi, I don't know if anyone is still actively running this at the moment, but to answer your question, I would include at least unlocking the challenges in 100%. And if my memory serves me correctly, you don't actually gain anything in-game from completing those challenges. My opinion would be to complete each challenge just once in 100%, but it was never really decided what to do with them. Last time I checked, there were a few 100% strats for world 1, but not much of anything else past that. Hope I helped.

It's almost been a full year since anybody has posted anything here... I can't find any sort of leader board anywhere. Am I the only one who is interested in this game as a single segment RTA?

I think i'm going to start streaming my any% runs soon @ twitch.tv/adasi.  idk who has the world record, but if nobody else runs this, then I do.  :p

Edit:
Also, the timing should start when the file is created (time includes the intro...) and stop when you kill THE FINAL BOSS, Bowser, which you guys aren't doing.  so... there's that too.
Leaderboards are edited in the original post. Also from what I remember, we pretty much all agreed that Bowser was more of a "true ending" kind of boss, but for any% only beating Bowser Jr. is just fine because the credits still play. Timing was already established too, I think there are some full run VODs in this thread you can find to look at.

Anyway, good luck running this game!
