Hello everyone! I'm working on a new speed run now! I started today, you can watch it here: http://www.youtube.com/user/MarcusSDA
Almost 2 years since I started my speed run that became a WR and now I'm going to try again. I haven't played the game since June 2008 so I'm a little rusty and the progress will be slower than last. The worst thing is that I can submit it here because the quality is too bad in Mike's oppinion.
I'll do my best, could you guys here try to find as many timesavers as possible, please? I'm doing an Any% run.
Well, the best thing you can really do is hit up the new Any% route in the first page. Not to mention: http://forums.zeldaspeedruns.com/index.php?board=4.0
This is where most of us have run off to for WW speed discussion, so you can check stuff there as well (and discuss there as well <_< >_>)
Another good thing to do is to look up Phazon's and DRybes' current videos. They didn't get all that far into their runs, but it's an excellent resource for the beginning segments.

If quality's an issue, maybe ZSR could host your run? I'uno... (just reread, noticed you meant that about your older run)
Anyways, good to see someone willing to tackle this monster of a game. I'm more than willing to answer any questions you have concerning TWW, beings that I'm trying to accomplish an SS Any% run for this game as well.
You seem like a good player, but you made some bad choices so far, like getting the 100 rupees from under your house and attacked Orca normally. Also I timed it; It's not faster to go skip the savewarp after obtaining the Shield. Maybe if you went to the left of those little trees you'd save a second, but it's not 5 seconds like you said in your vid :/

Attacked Orca normally? Only 2 bad choises right?
Watch how I did it here. It's faster to beat Orca this way than mashing B. I don't know how much faster this way is. Maybe like 2-3 seconds. Looking at the bigger picture it's not a lot of time lost, but if you ever want to go back to this segment, you know what to do. Incidentally, you may not want to bother with the quick-parry, because it's really hard to do xP. This is all hypothetical anyway, because you might not come back to this. You don't really need to if you don't want to.

Anyway i'm pretty much just rambling. The 100 rupees is something you'll probably want to stick with, because if you do the 80 rupee route your segments will contain inconsistencies and you'll have to do them all again. I'd just carry on with your segments later on you can decide what you want to do. Maybe if you end up with like 6:00:05 or something stupid like that, you'll want to come back, but how likely is that? x_X. More rambling ftw!

Do you think a sub 6h is possible now? And, what? Isn't the 80 rupee route better??? What inconsistencies???
By inconsistencies I was assuming you wouldn't redo every segment, which meant redoing just one segment was out of the question because your rupees would change between vids, but that doesn't matter now. And yeah the 80 rupee route is a lot faster. I'm just being needlessly confusing lol.

Sub 6 hour is what you should aim to get with the current route. It'd be a great accomplishment, but would leave little room for mistakes.

Ok, I'll try to get a sub 6h and will you continue on your run because it has been a month since your last segment. Anyway, I think my speed run will be finished in the beginning of March but I'm not sure.
I can't record. There's a problem with my DVD-recorder. Another one. I've honestly lost counts of the amount of times that something has gone wrong with the DVD-recorder. I'll probably have to buy another one >.>

Thats why I asked him.  As soon as I saw it on the verification topic, I went to youtube and searched for a recently added WW speedrun and there he was.  Its good that he didn't submit it though, he got 6:17 when we were expecting a sub 6:05.

If you don't know it already. My other run had wrong timing and I counted the introduction so my actuall time was 6:10:00 or something, not so bad actually. I know what cost about 3-5 minutes.
- I didn't use the bomb trick in WT. (About 15-20 seconds lost or something.)
- I did the 101 rupee trick on wrong island. I had to roll a little longer every time. Maybe it took 4 seconds extra every time. (4x28=112. Almost 2 minutes lost.)
- I took the orange rupee under the the house at the beginning instead of the other route. (Probably 20-30 seconds slower.)

These 3 mistakes cost me about 3 minutes and there were probaly more I missed. But still it was a good run.

The sailing route up to ET or so has been changed to include more cyclone warps, and the new fast sailing gives you more freedom with wind direction (thank Animeowzers), should be able to save yet another wind change or 2 now...

You got 6:10? Not bad. More refinement with the above stuff, the latest sail rupee route, and the like can get you close or perhaps under 6:00. I forget how good / bad the segment were as a whole, anyone got some links?
O Zlda?
Marcus took it off of youtube shortly after completion, which is unfortunate as it was a great demonstration.

All the little things and execution really make a difference in this game. This is exemplified in the annoying sailing method that saves a second or two a go at the cost of breaking up travel into a bunch of small segments. You can easily get sub 6 if you take as much of a perfectionist approach as possible.

To Marcus, I would recommend reading up on the thread as both a new route, an improved method of segmenting, and extensive new strategies were discovered or perfected since your last attempt. There is also a thread on the ZSR forums about this game, but I believe the routes posted here are fairly recent. They've been edited into the first post of the thread. Phazon's segments on youtube are examples of times and precision to aim for, but know that some of the tricks are particularly difficult to get (such as the orca battle timesaver).

Nobody will fault you for not pulling off one or two difficult tricks that amount to a second or two each. I stalled out making this run, as did many others, due to setting the bar for small details enough above my own skill that attempting a segment took too much time and retries for me to stay interested.
How recent are the sailing route changes? Also could I use my current segments 1-5 in a 100% run? Would 6 be allowed due to inconsistencies that are not visible on screen (Heart pieces). This is completely hypothetical however. I'm just curious.
O Zlda?
Obviously if there are no route differences and no visible differences it won't matter. If something like heart pieces is different, as long as that doesnt come up on the subscreen you've got a technically identical segment that is usable.
How long will it take for the current run to be finished, the any% and the 100%. Will it be savig in every savewarping in every square of the sea chart for savewarping purposes, that wil be a little annoying, I think.  I'm looking forward to see a new run with new tricks, in a not to long time.
It's hard to say how long it's going to take for the runs to be done. A few people have tried working on the any% Segmented route, and just about the same amount of people have dropped the run. With Thiradell's progress, I'd assume that he could be done by the end of the year, so there's 100% Seg'd. I'm trying my hardest to get equipment so that I can get the Any% Single Segment up and running on here, 100% SS might be in the future as well.

Marcus also seems to be doing a pretty good job on progress right now, so perhaps we can see it being done this year as well. All in all, if people keep up on progress, we could very much see 3 runs being done by 2011 :]
I think my run will be finished in March, but I'm not sure.
March, 2 months, that's not too long time. Smiley
Over 4 years ago a Zelda Wind Waker speedrun was realeased. Since then many tricks and timesavers has been dicoverd. It's about time a new run gets on SDA. The current run is by a person who don't particulary like the game. So I wish Marcus and Thiradell good luck with their respective runs Cheesy
My run won't be submitted to SDA because the quality is too bad. =(
I just noticed that Myles 16 star run of SM64 had ghostning too. So I want a fucking good explanation from Mike why I can't submit mine.

GSSW saves too much time not to use I guess. I'm still running technically, but I need a new dvd-recorder >_>
Mr. Twishall
I'm gonna work on my run a lot this summer; I hope to have it done by September 1st.
Man, I would love to see a WW run utilizing all the new tricks.

Actually, speaking of which, I haven't seen all of TSA's current run yet, but I'm wondering what the "fast sail" method is. Is it repeatedly putting away then taking out the sail? Cuz TSA does that, but I'm not sure why. I assumed it was just for comedic effect. So yeah how do you exactly do "fast sail"?

In any case TSA's run was done in 2005 and it seems a boatload (pun intended) of tricks have surfaced since then so Thiradell you have my support.
Fast sailing is flipping out the sail and putting it back in rhythm. See, when you open up your sail, you get an extra boost of speed for a good half second. So, if you keep putting the sail away at the peak of the boost then pull it out again, you get another boost. I'd say it cuts out a good 1/4th sailing time, which is alot more than it sounds like.

In any case, can't wait for more of Thiradell's segments :]
