DLC is available via the main menu in a new option called "EXTRAS".  They are played independent of the main game, and their save data is even different than your normal save data. However, getting certain rankings and doing certain things (killing X person, getting Y gun) unlock new recruits and weapons in the main game.

Although I have not tested this, it should be possible to unlock all these things before ever touching the main game, meaning the powerful Ruhm could be used on a New Game run.  However, since it is DLC and not the standard game, my 2 cents is that anything used in a game from DLC should make the run count as New Game+, or at the very least, its own category.

So yea, you can play the DLC missions right away, and the stuff you unlock from it is available in the normal game as soon as you unlock it.

That sounds fair, considering you're bringing stuff from DLC to make your new game go faster.
welcome to the machine

Either that or the time you spend in Selvaria's campaign should count towards your new game time.  Which would be, uh, counter-productive for anything that isn't a 100% run.

As I think I said, the save data for DLC is not actually the same as your main file (it warns you not to overwrite your game file with the DLC save since you will lose all that if you do).  All it does is unlock content in the main game, which is then tied to your main game save(s) once you incorporate them and save.  You don't even get experience for the DLC (EX hard missions are an exception).  So the time is not accounted for. Manually factoring it in...meh, I don't think we should.  Just separate categories I would think is fine.
Waiting hurts my soul...
sounds reasonable to have separate categories like a new game+

Someone still on this one?

I diside to give this game a shoot by myself and started a New Game Segmented Run:

Plan:
I alrady did 8 Segments

S3: Retreat from Bruhl                3 Round's                    Time: 00:05:14  TotalTime: 00:12:17

5. Start Chapter 17, Tropper Lvl. 14,Sniper Lvl. 15 Weopons Tropper Great clip

PS: I do this run cooperated with -M2- we Battel for each Segment for the best Time and If we can't beat the time anymore and are satisfine with the Segment we keep it.
Valkyria Chronicles is, hands down, my favorite game of all time. The gameplay is amazing, the story is excellent, and the japanese voicing has my favorite voice actor doing my favorite character (Nakai Kazuya as Zaka).

Actually I've S-ranked the entire game and because of that, I know the quickest ways of beating each level, and of course you can skip cutscenes so this game is actually one of the better ones out there to speedrun.

I would love to do a Valkyria Chronicles run, given that I've practiced the levels so many times so I could S-Rank them as fast as possible, but the only issue is my recorder--for some unknown reason--only records Wii/Gamecube, not my PS3.

For that reason I'd fully support this run and I'd be more than happy to comment on it and give support where needed.
how are you trying to record the ps3? composite (yellow cable) or s-video or something else?
I survived MIKE-Fest 1
I recorde the same way I recorde gamecube, with scart Yellow/Red/white
The signal get clonet with a box and recordet with my capture card.

to the run: I make a little break with this until Magfest is over  Grin

btw: If some mod coude get me the first post I can update the times there (If JTazZ aren't agansit it)

Pretty good job on the segments. I didn't notice that you were running this game too. Smiley

I actually have been fine-tuning my own run since about September but I didn't really check here for some reason. It seems you are going to beat me to getting a full run though. Where I work, it's always super busy between January to April. It's a shame because I seem to beat your segments by a few seconds in most places. For example after segment #3, my total time is 11:55. Unfortunately life gets in the way too much so I'm not advancing very quickly. I'm still not satisfied with my battle against the Batomys (Chap 7) so I guess I'm kinda stuck there for a few months. Undecided
all it means is that your run will replace his on the site later unless he improves his first. they're close enough that verifiers shouldn't reject his. and i've never liked rejecting for runs that aren't finished yet anyway.

cool to hear that you are still working on it (I gueesed that you give up because there was no respons)

Pretty Impresive that you are already 22 sec ahad after segment 3 but as nate said I will complyte the run and not starting to reduing the segments onece it is done and you beat it mabey I will give it another shoot. (But of corse I will make the quality as high as posible)

Have you more times for me to compare with and some videos ?

also now I will try even harder and riskier tactics to get those lost seconds back  Grin
I think thats getting realy interesting in the end witch run will be faster.  8)

btw: The final gol for me is that there is a Valkyria Cronicles Speedrun on the site as fast as possible and I don't care how is doing it so ceep up the good work!
Okay well I looked at your first segments and they look very similar to mine. I'm actually surprised the difference is 22 seconds. Huh?

It can probably be attributed to the most frustrating thing about running this game: loading times while menu scrolling. It seems so random. I don't know if you noticed this too but often times it can randomly take 2-3 seconds for a menu prompt to pop up on the screen. Very frustrating. I swear I made segments that look and feel faster but the time is not as fast. Undecided
maybe it's because it's having trouble drawing the graphics and the input gets behind ... what happens if you look at the ground before opening the menu? or is it on the map you're talking about? if so then disregard what i said lol.

Actually, during the actual gameplay it doesn't seem to be a very big issue. It's actually in between events, in "book mode". For example, look at Tigger77's first segment at about 17 seconds into it. It can take 3 whole seconds (feels like 10) before "View this episode?" pops up. This is done multiple times during the whole game so if there was a way to manipulate this it could potentially save minutes.

So far, I really only have one observation. It seems to take longer for "View this episode?" to pop up when the X button is being mashed furiously as opposed to "casually" (if it makes sense to button mash casually). I don't really have a hypothesis of why this is... and I doesn't stop the problem entirely so I have a feeling my observation is not quite accurate but every bit helps, I guess. Smiley
oh that. do you have it installed to the hd?
Yes I do. It's funny that you bring that up though because I hear the loading time in this is pretty much the same, installed or not. But that was from some guy on the GameFAQs forum so... yeah.
I survived MIKE-Fest 1
I noticed that loading thing in my 6 segment or so and thats realy annoying. anyways here is the seven segment:

http://www.mediafire.com/file/jy11kzlmzzz/VC_Segment_07.mp4

btw: witch final time do you plan? and in how many segments?
My practice run was (I think) 4:05. I think it easily done sub 4 hours... my guess is ~3:50 or maybe even 3:40 but it's difficult to say because the first half of my practice run was great but the second half was not very well planned in terms of visits to the Headquarters. I think I have 16 (or 18?) segments, like you.
Interloper.
This is great news!  I love this game.

Not making realy progress so far I thought I have to post that I missed another time saver  Angry

Probably you alrady know but to be sure: If you level up your team you can fill multiply jobs and than level they together up (saves those Level up + the speaking of that one eyed guy every time) ... thx to mike for feeling me like a Idiot  :-[
