One slight change I made to the November story mission is ignoring the enemy tank in Area 4 and letting my tank sit in the camp.  It should be fine.  As for Area 5, I let Avan and two other units stand there and hope they all don't get killed then the base getting captured.  As long as one is left standing by the end of the enemy phase, it is all that matters.

Zeri is going to get fired at a lot, so I'll have to determine how many times I should have him heal.  The healing animation looks like it will take 5 seconds each for Zeri.

I think a guide on who grenade tossing works on and who it doesn't work on seems good.

November... Is that the one where you have to get Zeri to a specific spot?
Stay chill, be cool.
Yup that one.

So I compared my WR run against Ghoul's splits for his PB run, and figured out that the majority of my strats were faster.  There were only a few missions where Ghoul was faster, mostly in the early parts of the run.

I wrote down a lot of stuff that I noticed as I was doing this, and I now have enough information to work on this game once again.  For now I'm going to be making save states for every mission.

I started work on the re-route, and just from the first mission, I realize that there are probably a lot of enemy units where I don't need to aim for the head.  Meaning that I could take them out with regular body shots.  It doesn't save too much time by itself, but I find enough enemy units to do this on, and it will save a lot of time by the end.

I want to be able to snap onto an enemy unit with L or R and not have to adjust my crosshairs for headshots.

1/55 missions re-routed.

Good stuff happening here.

I found a good spot to gun down the boss unit in the February story mission.  After I grenade the sandbag to make the boss unit stand up, I have Zeri run around and take him out from behind.  I find the closest I can get to him from behind, without turning towards me, is to stop right before the flag at the camp and aim at his head.  Zeri isn't the most accurate early on in the game, but it should help with making a one clip kill a thing.

I used to fire from further away, but that was too inaccurate.

February done.

Four things:

It's faster to do The War Hero in March with the standard turret instead of the Cptd AA Gtlg A1, as the Enemy Phase on Turns 1 and 2 take less time with the standard turret.  With this discovery, I can actually re-route the entire month of March.

I'll need to figure out how to menu the R&D and leveling trips before I do Storming the Bridge in March.  There is a lot of stuff I need to buy at R&D, and I could save so much time there.  Also I need to figure out what levels my Scouts, Troopers, and Lancers need be so I don't stop and think about it.

Every time I do a leveling trip, I'll check to see if I can upgrade my Scouts or Shocktroopers.  The sooner I can get upgraded units, the better off I'll be for the run.

Finally, I figured out a new strat for Cerulean Shadows in April.  I grenade the sandbags, but make sure the blast doesn't hit the enemy commander.  I want him to stand up, not get launched toward the fence.  Avan runs past him and stops at a certain position.  Zeri then gets as close as possible to the enemy commander and hopefully takes him out in one clip.  Avan can finish him off most likely if Zeri doesn't do it right away.  As long as I don't move Avan, the enemy commander won't turn toward me.

Alarming Developments

I may need a Shocktrooper to start out with Avan in case I need to get rid of an enemy or two if it means Avan is going to survive the first part of the battle.  Maybe I won't need it, because I can also try to buffer intercepting fire by aiming with Avan.

The other area is just a matter of me clearing the center camp of any enemy units.

I'm getting better at my menuing though.

I'm pushing Beyond the Flood Gate to its limits.  I now go all out on this mission, as I now go for a 2 turn finish when possible.  It's possibly the only escort mission in the route where I can finish it in less turns than the amount of areas where the Escort APC has to pass.  It is extremely dangerous to do, but the time save is enough to make a PB happen.  Recommended preparations going into this mission include Zeri being a Trooper Elite and Copper D Level 4 materials available for defense coating.  Zeri needs to withstand as many shots as possible as he crosses the bridge to flip the switch, especially if I get the worst kind of luck by encountering 3 Heavy Gunners on the bridge.

Meanwhile in the starting area for the APC, if Avan is a Scout Elite, he captures the camp.  This is risky as I may not be able to do it in one action because of bad luck.  However I go for it.  If I am not feeling lucky, I have Anisette do the job.

In the following area, I move my APC halfway across the bridge.  That part is critical to the 2 turn finish.  I also take out the supply vehicle regardless of spawn point on the south or north side of the area.  North side saves about 1 CP.  I then deploy a ST in the area, usually Franca.

On the next turn, I get rid of the V2 unit and Sniper.  I crouch behind the sandbag in front of the V2 to aim and get cleaner headshots.  Once the base is captured, I use all my remaining CP to move my APC to the goal.

2 CP will be used to to move it to the last area.  6 will be used to finish the mission.  Movement is very tight and I may make a video demonstration to show it off.

3 turns is still doable and is the safer strat by far.  Leaving the APC in the last area is dangerous, as there is always a chance it can be destroyed.  When I go for the best times in VC2, I have to go all out on this mission.

I've been grinding the endgame of VC2, the last three story missions in December.

Battle For Anthold Harbor:  I still do step aiming to get Avan to the switch.  It is possible to one shot Dirk if Lavinia gets the Big Sister potential.

Clash Aboard Deck: Getting more consistent at Drive By Tanking , the name I came up for my ridiculous tank shot at the heat sink.

The Final Battle: For some reason, I founf that the tank turret does slightly more damage depending on the position of the tank from Baldren.  If I aim at his back from a ledge, I will be able to take out his engine in one hit.  It used to take two hits.  I then aim for his head to take out most of his health.  The final shot has me switching targets until I snap onto Baldren and fire right away to kill him.

Avan should be a Level 23 or 24 Scout Veteran or Elite to get Baldren's attention and to turn him the other side.  If you are feeling unsure, you can always step aim. More advanced runners like myself would skip it, heal behind a platform, and keep running until Avan ends his actions.

If for some reason I don't destroy the engine right away, I use Vs Personnel Boost on Avan.  5 shots is enough to destroy it and do enough damage on Baldren.  Avan needs to survive the previous action for this to work.  I could also send another Scout out if I have to.

Hey, been away from my laptop for a while.
Interesting re-routing... and I think I may need video demonstrations for them.
As for The Final Battle, for now I'm going to use Yadilie's (the video I posted the link to) method of completion.
Another note: I don't actually use temp coatings or orders, so that'll be weird for me. It's a thing I do in a lot of games, where there's some sort of booster or something like that in a game... and I just don't use it. Usually, this includes grenades (except for in Uncharted and the VC series, where they're very useful).
Stay chill, be cool.
I didn't use coating in casual play until late into the postgame.  Then I found out how useful it was for a speedrun.  I want to say it's about 15 or so seconds of menuing to activate it from R&D per mission, but it saves so much time where it's needed.  You do have to reapply it each time, so if you fail a mission, it can set you back by so much time.  They make up for orders being nerfed in this game since they now cost so much CP and can only be used on one unit each.

I finished my rerouting work yesterday.  I could have worked on some missions for much longer, but at a certain point I felt like I was good enough to move onto the next one.  Some missions saw slight changes in the route, while other missions had more significant changes.

The September story mission can now be done in one turn with a backup strat built in when it doesn't work.  Meanwhile the October story mission can be done in one turn consistently.

I'll be doing video demonstrations of the new route now that I have my streaming and recording set up once again.
The name's Sheldor. InfiniteSheldor.
Cool thanks. are the rerouted updates on the Google docs file yet? And if so, what about the obsolete routes and other stuff?
Stay chill, be cool.
I'll probably make a new Google doc because this is a major overhaul, not like the minor changes I've been doing up to this point.  I still need to write out the remaining parts of the re-route because I was making so much progress and didn't want to stop at the time.

I will probably stop updating the older doc once it's fully up and running.

But yeah I'm going to be streaming this stuff and also highlighting stuff.
Stay chill, be cool.
So I have to go back and update the notes even more.

The time for VC2 is now down to 3:54:19.  It feels nice to finally get sub-4:00 in that game.

I have a finished enough version of the VC2 rerouting notes to post here:

Alright, so for the November story mission, turns out that I can still do the mission without deploying a tank in one area, and then I can just have my other units standing.  That way I don't have to spend extra time making them all crouch, and then deploying an additional unit in the area, which used to be done for safety.  Also I'm trying to cut back on the amount of healing I should do for Zeri as he makes his way to the goal area.
Stay chill, be cool.
So the November story mission is still pretty dangerous.  Whether or not I get my base captured during the enemy phase is totally random.  Meanwhile the ideal situation for Zeri is to be a Trooper Elite by this point for additional defense against intercepting fire.  Otherwise I would probably have to play it safe and heal maybe once or twice if he was still a Trooper Veteran.

Meanwhile, in the September story mission, I'm trying to get more consistent at the setup for the one turn clear.  It's a difficult setup, so I will probably have to grind it out.
Stay chill, be cool.
http://www.twitch.tv/thewanderingmind/b/671344325 From 10:08 to 11:26

The setup for the 1 turn clear in the September story mission, and then getting Bloodthirsty to activate at least once in order to pull it off.

I prefer to do the first part with Helmut since he has the most health for a Scout aside from Avan.  I have to time when to crouch behind the sandbag, and then run over, and then do a grenade launch, which I figured out how to do consistently.

Now for the next area.  I want my tank to be in a good enough spot where I can pull it back behind the wall in case I don't get Bloodthirsty.  I have 3 CP to spare, and Bloodthirsty has to happen at least once to do the quick kill.  Shooting at the front or side makes no difference, because it will need to go down in 4 shots.

It's worth going for despite the risk because of the possible time save.  Like with a lot of my strats for this game, I built in a backup strat in case things go wrong.  I can hide my tank behind the wall with careful use of my remaining AP.

Its been so long that I don't remember these missions lol
I'm getting the Vita download version on Vita. That saves me from

A. The random loading screens during missions.
B. The f***ing noise that my PSP makes. I should try and show you soon enough.
C. I don't have to run it while my PSP is on charge to stop itself from dying mid-run.

So with that in WanderingMind (sorry), and that the Vita is recordable, should I get it on Vita and run on that, or try to sign in on my PSP and run on that?

(and sorry if I've asked you before, but I'm on my PS3 and Vita now, not my laptop, but is it ok if I add you on Steam?)
Stay chill, be cool.
Oh yeah I heard the Vita has much faster loading times.  I wonder how much time it would save over the course of a run.  That's something I could do when I have enough time and feel bored enough to do so.  That way I could get some sort of an estimate of how much faster it is on a Vita compared to a PSP.

It's much easier to record VC2 from a PSTV compared to the Vita itself, since the PSTV is basically a Vita you can hook up to your TV.  You just need a way of capturing footage from it.

I don't have the capture card to do HD quality at the moment.  The only reason I'm sticking with the PSP for now is that I could easily do SD footage with my current capture card.  Not the most ideal, but that's what I do for now.

Oh yeah, feel free to add me on Steam and I'll add you back.

I think 3:50 might be possible with the best optimised route.
The name's Sheldor. InfiniteSheldor.
Also, (again, sorry if I've overlooked it) but how and where do you get the Cptd AA Gtlg A1?
Stay chill, be cool.
I should be 'WanderingMind' over on Steam.

I would have actually gotten a 3:50 or in that range had I finished my last run without major mistakes.  I lost most of my time to Baldren in October because I couldn't kill him in one turn.  That's why I use Vs. Personnel coating on Shocktroopers from now on for that mission.

You can get the Cptd AA Gtlg A1 in two missions in March:  Storming the Bridge and Defensive Exam

You have to kill the Ace, an enemy unit with a name, the first time you do either mission.  On the second time you do the mission, killing the ace will let you get one of three things after the Mission Complete screen.  One of those will be the Cptd AA Gtlg A1.

The old route used Storming the Bridge to get it.  I eventually replaced it with Defensive Exam because I thought it was much more consistent.

Ok thanks. I'm in April now, but I'll go out of way for it. I'll do a loading comparison soon
Stay chill, be cool.
Thank you so much, it's really appreciated.

I'm probably going to start doing video tutorials of the strats I do during a run and try to explain them as best as I can.  They'll be recorded on emulator for easy practice, and then I'll upload them to Youtube as I finish them.
