EDIT - The run is available here.
Operation Na Pali is a single-player campaign for Unreal Tournament based on the gameplay of the original Unreal episode. The player goes back to Na Pali and gets to kick some more Skaarj ass throughout the splendid thirty-six (!) new levels created by Team Vortex.
Technically, it's unofficial; however, the ambitious size of the project (longer than the original Unreal episode!), the time Team Vortex spent working on it (two years), the several gameplay additions (Nali/Mercenary followers, scripted sequences and cutscenes, allowing the translocator in a few levels, taking control of a small ship in a couple others, etc.) as well as the collaboration of Tim "Kew" Jervis (Unreal 1 level designer) make it a little more than just your average custom map/campaign in my opinion.
Let's get to the point: speedrunning. Perhaps even more so than in the original Unreal episode, there are ways to save spectacular amounts of time in this campaign: rocket jumps, ASMD jumps, hugging cliffs to avoid falling damage, double-tapping, translocating, shortcuts, etc. I've been toying with the idea ever since Allantois released his Unreal speedrun, and today I've finally taken it to the next step, looking for shortcuts, practising tricks and recording videos. This is proving to be far less frustrating than I expected, so I'm definitely going to try completing a full run of the game.
In case anyone is interested in seeing a "teaser", I've uploaded this video of a 00:59 time on NP06-Heiko, a huge canyon map in which a well-performed rocket jump allows you to save something like 10 minutes. This run isn't perfect or anything, the landing could've been better and I fucked up the ending, but it should be good enough for an quick introduction to what can be done in UT:ONP.
Anyway, my main purpose here is to gauge interest and get suggestions. I don't know for sure whether I'm the first one doing this, and there's probably a great many people out there who could do it better than me, but I'm determined to try my best to complete this run either way. Any comments or ideas, shoot away!
