EDIT - The run is available here.

Operation Na Pali is a single-player campaign for Unreal Tournament based on the gameplay of the original Unreal episode. The player goes back to Na Pali and gets to kick some more Skaarj ass throughout the splendid thirty-six (!) new levels created by Team Vortex.

Technically, it's unofficial; however, the ambitious size of the project (longer than the original Unreal episode!), the time Team Vortex spent working on it (two years), the several gameplay additions (Nali/Mercenary followers, scripted sequences and cutscenes, allowing the translocator in a few levels, taking control of a small ship in a couple others, etc.) as well as the collaboration of Tim "Kew" Jervis (Unreal 1 level designer) make it a little more than just your average custom map/campaign in my opinion.

Let's get to the point: speedrunning. Perhaps even more so than in the original Unreal episode, there are ways to save spectacular amounts of time in this campaign: rocket jumps, ASMD jumps, hugging cliffs to avoid falling damage, double-tapping, translocating, shortcuts, etc. I've been toying with the idea ever since Allantois released his Unreal speedrun, and today I've finally taken it to the next step, looking for shortcuts, practising tricks and recording videos. This is proving to be far less frustrating than I expected, so I'm definitely going to try completing a full run of the game.

In case anyone is interested in seeing a "teaser", I've uploaded this video of a 00:59 time on NP06-Heiko, a huge canyon map in which a well-performed rocket jump allows you to save something like 10 minutes. This run isn't perfect or anything, the landing could've been better and I fucked up the ending, but it should be good enough for an quick introduction to what can be done in UT:ONP.

Anyway, my main purpose here is to gauge interest and get suggestions. I don't know for sure whether I'm the first one doing this, and there's probably a great many people out there who could do it better than me, but I'm determined to try my best to complete this run either way. Any comments or ideas, shoot away!

That sounds cool to me o.o

Good luck with your run ^_^

There is a kind of run here:

http://www.archive.org/details/OperationNaPali

There are some very nice tricks in it, and a generally well thought out route, so maybe that could be an inspiration.
Holy cow, someone stole my idea.

1:15 seems like a nice time. I'm downloading the videos now; let's see if there's room for improvement. Thanks for the link!
Very nice run. Some great ideas, I'm not sure I would've been able to come up with everything myself.

It can definitely be improved, though. I'd say 1:10 is within my reach, though a good player could probably do even better with the route I have in mind. I'll get started on this right away, wish me luck!

I'll have to download it and check it out
The Unreal Authority.
well before you get started, you should realize that it probably wont get posted on SDA. The rules say that no third part mods will be accepted.

I've gotten started already, and I don't really care either way. If I can't convince Radix or whomever is in charge, I'll just get it hosted elsewhere. That would be a shame though, because ONP is little less than a semi-official expansion that was released freely on the internet rather than sold for money. But I digress...

Just completed NP13, about 1:30 saved so far. Everything's going pretty well; I wish I had a better system, though (playing with Fraps on is hell). The run should be finished by the end of the week.

At least you have somebody who's interested in seeing this. I could talk to myself in the Elite Force thread, but decided to give up (posting) and just do it.
The Unreal Authority.
I'm going to go through it without looking at the run which is already out there. i've never played it before so i'm going to finish it before I start, but it seems like a good game to run.

By the way, what difficulty are you doing it on ?
I'm doing it on Easy, just like the 1:15 run (and your Unreal 1 run :p).

You're going to make a run of it too, then? Wow, now there's some serious competition. ;_; Best of luck with it, regardless; maybe we can share tricks or something.
http://www.unrealsp.org/

On "featured articles" is a guide I made to getting all of the goaltimes; it's old and I'm sure I've overlooked plenty of stuff, but it might provide a trick or too (according to the guide my final time was 1:19).
Ah, it would've helped if I had seen this earlier... on the other hand, it was quite fun to come up with all those tricks by myself anyway.

In other news, I completed my run a few hours ago. Run time is 0:59:52, about 5 minutes faster than ShadowWraith (1:15:15 was inaccurate, by the way - according to the game's timer, ie. without the cutscenes, his run time is 1:04:??). I'm currently uploading it to archive.org (gonna take a bit of time), I'll post the link here as soon as it's online.

I was looking for that speedrun guide. I knew i saw it before but forgot where it was located. Thanks.

btw Face did you talk to Radix about having it on SDA?

I never played this game before I downloaded it a few days ago so It will be a while before I have anything recorded. I came up with a few cool tricks on my first run through the game, though. Lookin forward to seeing your run.

Yeah, he said no. Sad

EDIT: having a bit of trouble with archive.org, I'm going to host the run on my own webspace until all is sorted out. I should be done in 12 hours or so.
The run is up.

Someone else has reported the same problem. Try using a download manager like FlashGet, maybe. I really hope I'll be able to put all those files on archive.org soon.

Update: I'm done uploading it to archive.org. It should be processed within the next 24 hours or so.
Finally. In the wrong collection and all, but at least it's downloadable...
