Might be magic...
Quote from Lag.Com:
Them's good notes. It's been super hectic since I came home back from America so I'll try to watch your run soon. Smiley

Looking forward to the review. Might have to update your username to "JetLag.Com" tho...

... *crickets* ...

Sorry! No more cringe-inducing jokes.
Might be magic...
In case this has to go to public verification, I annotated the run on YouTube which hopefully answers any questions that people would have.

Would love to actually, but it runs like a geriatric dog using DOSBox on my system. I'd really like to do the game justice by setting up a machine that can run it natively, or maybe create a VM that will run it nicely.

Honestly think that I'm not the best candidate to do a System Shock run either - there are plenty of people out there who know way more about the game internals than me. Not to mention the movement rate when running in the game is lightning fast! In the underworld games you at least get some time between points to do a little inventory management.  I still have no idea how I would handle the skating ability either - it's amazingly fast yet so difficult to control.

The game tends to run quite slowly in DOSBox too. Check out the difference between these two videos:
Real DOS
DOSBox

But then, this guy seems to have it running decently using DOSBox. If I ever manage to get a solid DOSBox configuration going it might become a possibility.

I really liked the game though and I'm keen to take it on. Plus the fact that I haven't played it to death yet means that I wouldn't mind spending a lot of time playing this masterpiece (you won't catch me sparking up UW1 or UW2 again any time soon). Even if a real pro decides to take the game on I'd be happy to help with routing and things.

Hi, I just thought of something that could potentially be useful in a speedrun of Ultima Underworld II: Sleeping. Sleeping resets the position of NPCs that could have moved, which can be very useful(For example to find Nystul in Lord British's castle). The biggest problem with that would be, of course, dreams. The player's visions could easily slow down the run, even just a tiny bit.

And from that, I started wondering how dreams are triggered. If somebody knows it, well... Please say it Wink

My thoughts:

- When the player is in or has went to a specific area;
- When the player has completed a quest or spoke to a certain NPC;
- When the player has reached a certain phase of the game(Ex: Has triggered so much of the blackrock gem)
- When the player is hungry or low on health/mana;
- When the player has killed a specific creature(Including NPCs, of course);
- When the player reaches a given EXP level;

Dreams might also be random, or partially random(Maybe Intelligence affects dreaming?).

I am not sure, and this might not be useful at all for any given run. But who knows?
