Looks like 2.35:1 instead of 1.78:1.

Is this on Anri 3.1? If not, you should use it. The handling of aspect ratios has gone through a significant redesign.

I used Anri-Chan 3.1 for medium/low quality and they seem to have the same issue of it thinking the aspect ratio is 2.35:1 even though the actual video width/length is 16:9. My default player (DivX Plus Player) displayed it at 16:9. Is there a way to just edit the aspect ratio data without re-encoding? Using a video player setting to set it to 16:9 displays it perfectly normal.

Edit: After a lot of screwing around with various programs I got the command line MP4Box to work and fix the aspect ratio for all video players.
oh boy now i get to reupload it

I downloaded IQ version. I have ratio problems with KMplayer and VLC, but GomPlayer plays it without any problems.
The speedrun is awesome.  Grin
You can alter the aspect ratio in any video in VLC by pressing A.
i noticed that when using heal all it heals faster than heal self if you have more then 1 summon up when you use it. not sure if this helps.

i also noticed duping doesnt work with the newest patch.

Taking damage is never a problem when using a version where you can dupe up money from gems, and as far as I know there's no reason to use any version but the original unpatched game, because otherwise you have no exp glitch and no dupe glitch.

I have some free time now so I am going to attempt a better single segment and possibly segmented run, because only two haste spells doesn't seem sufficient, and there were some other more minor issues that could be improved.

Edit: Not playing for several months made me forget how goddamn impossible it is to get even two haste scrolls, and in addition three hastes make it harder to control so the speed gain isn't incredible. I may end up just finally doing the voice commentary and submitting my older run. There's just so much luck involved throughout the entire run for me to improve the time. I would love to see someone else try, though. Some better strategies I'm not seeing might cut the time down a bit, especially the leveling part.
I also started glitching out of the level a lot because you actually get airtime off of stairs if you're going fast enough, which completely screwed me over.
hey guys any progress on this?ive been interested in this game again lately and was hoping the speedurn would be out for some tricks.

I submitted my run to verification and it's a mystery if it will get through or not but my run is up on youtube.
is this even up for verification i dont see it in the forum. id offer to verify if i couldfind it. then again havent played in awhile but i am sure i would recognize things right away if i saw them,
Lay waste to everything...but I still love SDA!
I'm almost sure it didn't appear in the verification queue. Sometimes it happens when verifiers are available right when the run is submitted. This run is already verified and accepted, so now we can only wait until it will appear on the site.
i still cant wait to see this run. did it ever get verified or accepted for posting?
So I'm having trouble doing the item duplication bug, the vendor one. Was it patched or is there a trick the videos make it look so easy it makes me feel stupid. Thanks for any help as I'd like to do a non-XP glitched run, even its not a separate category, just because its what I was doing before I saw the XP bug.

The vendor dupe only works in the first released version, just the same with the xp glitch. I think there was another dupe method including the enchanter but don't know if that was patched or not. Btw there's no trick in the vendor dupe, just click on the scroll, hover the cursor on the item, and click again.

If you want to do a run without xp glitch, then probably your only method will be the shared-stash dupe, if you do the run segmented. If it's a single-segment run, then I fear you can't use any dupes in that.

Hmmm... Does having a different version immediately make it a different run type? Also I skimmed most of the thread and didn't see how to get the launch version.

Edit: Also why don't you use retired characters? I'm only on my second run and it seems you get an increasing amount of points to spend each run. This could lead to some very broken tactics.

Edit; Edit (to not double post): So I did the Transmuter way it works in the current version though its a lot slower as you can only clone an item for each equipment slot then go and sell them though it could prevent me from coming to town to find haste and not having the money (happened on my last dive shouldn't of let it happen though). Though this does all me to make my heirloom item have as many enchants as I want as I can just keep a backup while tricking it out.

Edit to the previous edit (edit): It only works with weapons, and the cloned item is linked so you can abuse the enchanter by having a backup. Oh well.

1.: Only if the changes are huge. The xp glitch and the duping makes the early version a different, "glitched" version. I guess you can only get the launch version via torrent, which is illegal, and I don't know how it is considered here.

2.: Using a retired character would make the run a new game+, a different cathegory. But there's nothing wrong with ng+ runs.

3.: So the length of the dupe allows you to manipulate the vendors, which is nice if you want to get three haste scrolls, and maybe some other useful items. But, in the patched version you can't steal the spell scrolls? I don't really remember this game now, sorry.

Also, are you doing a single segment run or segmented? In segmented, you can use the stash dupe, which surely works in any version. So you don't need that much money.
Right now I'm planning on doing single segment as I find it to take the least effort and can be done in chains over the course of a day. I'm currently doing something similar to the old Destroyer run I've gotten down to almost 1:45:xx. And yes you can steal spells anymore its very unfortunate but it something that is. Also if you own the game you could argue that the torrent the launch version is legal, the same rule is often used when emulating a game.

So sense the last time I posted. Thus far, five or so runs, the extra points for retired characters, 1 per run, seems to not stop. On top of this each run the heirloom item gets better (not by much) but also its requirements go down meaning that getting a really good EPIC item with movement and +XP would be ideal as you could reduce the requirements to make them equip turn one. It would also be preferred to make it a weapon as to plow through early levels.

Now onto the interesting ideas. Modding is not allowed in run. My questions are, if anyone can answer:
1: Can you remove mod?
2: Can you mod to force an item at a vendor?
3: Can you mod to make one retirement count as multiple?

Have some of these would great help with making a viable run as you could force a vendor at the end of your first dive to give you a awesome EPIC sword; Then retire , count it as 100 retires; Do another dive; Then remove all mods; Do your speedrun. This would allow for anyone to easily get the start up as find the perfect weapon may prove to take longer than the 100 runs it takes to make the item to be equipped at level 1.

The weapon I'm thinking of is one of these (EPICs only): http://torchlightarmory.com/items?name=&minlevel=&maxlevel=&effects=PERCENT+SPEED&subcat=&slot=1-Handed&ist2=&speed=&cat=Weapon

No XP bonus but I think that movement is better, though I can't beat the final boss without rampage which I may be able to get over but for now.

I haven't really played torchlight in forever. (not that I found the time to beat it yet Sad ) but I find your question a bit vague, but I believe I understand what you're asking.

I think that there is a NG+ FF run (or some other game, I forget) which the account has max money because an action replay was used on a different file in order to get the things required for the run which could have been obtained without them. Then when the NG+ started they had max money and they didn't use action replay at all during the run.

I forget what run this occurred in, but I believe that if it exists your run would fall into the same category where the mods were used in an older file simply to get and lower the level of an heirloom which when you do the NG+ you would be able to easily get as long as you aren't running the actual file with the mods on. You probably want to get some more opinions on whether or not you would be allowed to do it though.
Lay waste to everything...but I still love SDA!
I agree on the mod, if you use it to get an item which is normally exist in the game, then use it in a different playthrough without the mod, it should be allowed. At least there's no way to detect where the the item came from, you get it in the normal way or used a mod. Also, isn't there something like an item collection out there? Like in Diabo 2, a character with the said epic items. Or an editor which allows you to give the item to your character. It would help you without modding the game.
I don't know of any way to get the launch version from any actual retailer at this point, because Runic Games was pretty on the ball about getting patches out to everyone. The physical boxed copy is version 1.3, so that's not an option. The version I used was 1.1, which I think is the earliest obtainable version if you go with the vaguely legal route. The version that fixes the Needle Arc, vendor duping, and free spell purchasing exploits is 1.12, so you want a version before that if you want to use those. Not really an exploit but something that was also changed in 1.12 is you are no longer able to heirloom socketable items, so that might be a consideration as well. If you aren't using those exploits you really should be going with the latest version, because the patches improve framerate and shorten load times by a considerable amount, along with fixing some crashes and collision detection issues.

As long as all the aspects of your NG+ character are actually possible in the default game I don't think how you actually obtain them before the run starts really matter. You would need to make sure that you show off your gear for at least a frame so we can know you're using gear that is technically possible in-game. Movement speed is definitely what you want to be focusing on. I would suggest Epic The Toad King's Gall. Second highest DPS of the weapons with innate movement speed bonus, and you get faster cast speed as well. I'm not quite sure how enchanting and heirlooming works, but you definitely want movement speed over all else if it's possible.

If for some reason anyone still has a 1.1 copy of the game, please DM me on Discord at Varanice#0001 or reach out via the Torchlight speedrunning discord server.

Me and the other active Torchlight runners are very interested in finding this version of the game if it is still out there somewhere.
