The Speedrunning Teacher
Don't have a SMS, so sorry mike89.  But, I do have an NES game for trade.  Contact me if interested.

Edit: I should mention that this NES game is a platformer, for those interested.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
I will be up for this in the near future.
WOW.
I will trade any old PC games without Keycodes ect (not DOS though). I have a perfect game if anyone wants to do that.

Well, I did send you a game if you want to send me something. I'm getting one game already from neskamikaze, but I wouldn't mind having another. Of course, that means you'd have to run Tom Sawyer.

Edit:
If anyone wants to get in on this, but doesn't have a game. I have an NES game that would fit. It's really not my kind of game (2D platformer), so all that would be required is to play through this game to become familiar with it before sending off to someone to run it.
What was that game that romscout had to play all the time his little marathon? Ninja kun, or something like that? I don't remember what it was called but I was thinking about it today.
Yes, that was ninja-kun.

Also I'd definitely be up for this, I'll just have to find a game for somebody to run. consider it future goal but not a current interest

Alright I've found the perfect game for this. I can get it on either SNES or Genesis and either PAL or NTSC depending on the preference of who I'm trading with.
Also, this could very well be classified as the poverty puzzle game we were all looking for. Don't worry though, it's not a pure puzzle game, it merely contains puzzle elements.
Anyone dare?

Hi! I'm andrewg!
Zenic, I have a game to send you if you'd like. I think it's such a goofy game that I have to send it to you. The bosses here I think are actually pretty difficult. The game is relatively short and it's a 2D platformer on NES. Want me to send you this?

And I could run Tom Sawyer, since you've already sent me this... also Ghoul School as I can easily run it. Did you want either of those titles back?

Yea, the Ninja-kun series is only on Japanese systems, though. I guess you could play the Ninja-kun collection on GBA if you could find it since GBA games are region free iirc, and if you "upgrade" your Wii like Sir VG you can play Ninja Jajamaru-kun on VC. (easiest option for just straight up playing is emulation of course, but I really mean owning and playing to run)

The game I was playing on my stream was Ninja Kun: Ashura no Shou, and it's a Famicom game. So if you were thinking of it for this thread, the only eligible contestants that come to mind are me, Carc, and Vorpal. I was gonna run it eventually anyway because I'm a masochist like that.
No, I'm not that much of an asshole to actually send that to someone, this thread just reminded me of it and I wanted to try it out.

If there were ever a thread that would benefit from a community-editable first post, it would be this one. It would save Mike work, anyway.

By the way, Mike, please remove everything pre-PSX from my list of acceptable consoles. I do own those consoles, but I will have limited access to them for most of the year and especially for the next few months. Thanks!

Just posting to say that I have a game I would like to use for this.  I have not played it yet, so once I order it, I will play through it in order to help verify the run.

By the way, doesn't this little requirement that the sender be familiar with the game for the purpose of verifying violate the anonymity clause in our verification guidelines? "Finally, do not tell anyone who is not a verifier you are verifying the run -- not even the runner. This ensures that your opinions are not swayed by anyone else. " That rule's purpose seems to have been to prevent bias or influence in the verification process.  It's possible, after all, that two people exchanging games may want to reciprocate good verification reviews secretly as an explicit term of that exchange or as an implicit one afterwards.  Or maybe they would want to reciprocate good reviews just to be polite.  Anyway, I'm not saying this is or is not a problem. Just curious about this potential conflict of interest or whether it matters.

Anyway, the game I've been eyeing falls in the mostly forgettable class, as opposed to downright awful.  If anyone is curious, it's a Playstation (original) game. I chose it because many people here seem to be focusing on 8-bit and 16-bit consoles, and I wanted to add a little diversity.  While there's no way I'll be getting to this until sometime after the marathon, anyone who would accept PSX games should make it known whenever they can, if they have not already.

I agree with editable first post.  Smiley

As for the verification, I guess strictly speaking it does violate the anonymity clause.  Then again, that hasn't really been a huge deal anyways.  I mean the submitter is supposed to be anonymous too, but it is very obvious who is working on what runs just by browsing the forums.  Someone could have it out for me, check my latest posts, see what I'm running, offer to verify, and then reject it with some nonsensical comments.  I guess if someone wanted to try to get a super shitty game put onto SDA, force someone to run it and then give some fluffy comments to try to get it passed, that might fly.  Or, the other verifiers would notice it's not really up to snuff and point out other things.

It's worth noting that with the new Taiga forum in place here, verifications are not quite as anonymous as before.  The verifiers can see each other, that is.  I don't mean the runner can see who wrote which comments.  Since all the senders and receivers of the really bad games are made public in this thread, the other verifiers will know who sent the game.  If that review seems to be too generous, I'm sure they'll make note of it.  Smiley

You do raise a valid point though.

I'd like to think that those members participating in the exchange, and most of the community actually, know enough about what needs to go into a good run that they'll not settle for a mediocre run. Also, the sender wants to see the game trounced, not just beaten quickly. I think a close collaboration is beneficial to creating a run. In the end, Mike is here to review the verifiers, and he knows who sent what to whom. That should prevent most bias pushing through runs that shouldn't be on SDA.

I think the greater fear would be someone picks a game for the exchange, and plays through it enough to become familiar with it before sending it off yet they get attached to the game and feel a need to speedrun it. This is from experience; for the game I sent neskamikaze, I was considering keeping it for a while to run it SS, which would have delayed the exchange quite a bit.

I don't want either of those games back, and like I said, I'm pretty bad at 2D platformers. Maybe I'll take it up as a challenge though; if you'd like to send it on I'll do it, or you can wait for someone that's better at those types of games.

Ghoul School was something you requested, so I think Tom Sawyer would be the game of choice for you to run in this exchange since that's the one I kind of forced into you hands. Cheesy PM me if you need my address to send the game on.

Isn't there a way to give permissions to nearly all members to edit it?  This would be a good place to try something like this, given how many personal preferences need to be noted for potential exchanges and because that information may change often.  Then either Mike or PJ's only job would be to monitor that post and ensure it does not get abused or go out of control.

ZenicReverie: Platformer/3rd Person Shooter, I suppose you'd call it.

I'd definitely be up for this.  I have so many games that i randomly got for the SNES over the years that would seem fun to run, ha.

I'll edit my post with my games available later in the day.  Don't have access to them right now.

Systems available:
SNES
PS1
PS2
PS3
Possibly original Xbox

Why not just use your post? The one right after mike's?  Keep mike's post as the rules (and thus keep the title/joke), and then you can keep track of the games/trades in the second post of the thread.

Oh duh.  Great idea!  I'll edit that post later tonight when I get some time.

Actually...tonight is New Year's Eve.  I better not edit it tonight.  Tomorrow though.  Tongue

Ok, I edited my second post with everybody I could find.  If there are any corrections, please let me know and I'll change them.  Don't worry about bothering me, I don't care.
I want in on these shenanigans.

I have the capability of playing/recording games on:

Nintendo Systems:
NES (famicom games too)
SNES (note: I have a flashcart for this system, you could have me play any game that does not use any enhancement chips, and not even have to locate a copy of that game)
N64
Gamecube
Wii
GB/C
GBA (I have a flashcart for this one too)

Sega Systems:
Genesis
Dreamcast

Sony Systems:
PS1
PS2
Maybe PS3 (but I don't really have consistent access to that one)

Microsoft systems:
XBOX360 (this was a repaired RRoD, and the component video out is a little noisy, I'm not sure if my SD output is any better. No idea if I can get submittable video out of this one.)

I am also capable of recording PC games and DOS games (though I can only record audio from the internal PC speaker, and haven't found out how to get SoundBlaster support working on my recording rig, so I can only do games with no sound, or pc-speaker sound.)

However at the moment I have no idea what game I would send someone... nevertheless I'm sure I will be able to find something to send...

Looks good PJ! I guess I forgot to update; I have a working Dreamcast, Genesis, Xbox, and Sega Saturn now. I haven't done a quality test with all of the systems, but it shouldn't be a problem. Oh, apparently I also have a Japanese Dreamcast, but no compatible VMU.

@Tranquilite: I'm not sure flashcarts are allowed. Most likely people have a copy of the game they're going to send you, so that's not something you should have to worry about.

Got it.  Thanks!
