I'm not one for flash games, but this is fucking cool. It's basically SMB1, only you get to play as Mario, Link, Mega Man, Bill Rizer, and Samus. They have Special Attacks and play with similar physics as in their respective games.

Take a swing at it and figure it out for yourselves. Perhaps someone else will make a Casual Speedrunning thread in the near future.  Grin
Thread title:
Weegee Time
Actually, I think this might be a Flash game deserving of IC runs.  I don't think it's possible to beat Mario all the way through, since he can run, but it'd be interesting to see how each character puts their utility to use.  Who knows, maybe there's a stage or two that can be done faster with a different character.

Anyway, here's all the information I've put together so far.  It's in a spoiler in case you want to figure things out for yourself.

Mario
Plays exactly like in the game.

Link
Has a sword.  Slash with X.
Slash up and down in the air with arrow keys.
Throw a boomerang with S.
Mushroom: Boomerang travels further.
Flower: Sword beams!

Bill
Has a gun.  Shoot up to 4 bullets with X.
Can aim in 8 directions using arrow keys.
Mushroom: Upgrade to Machine Gun
Flower: Upgrade to Spread rounds.

Simon
Has a whip.  Swing with X.
Can double jump.  Can jump while falling.
He DOES get his second jump back after bouncing off an enemy.
Has NO momentum control in air.
Has axes.  Throw with S.
Mushroom: Can throw two axes.
Flower: Can throw three axes.

Megaman
Has an arm cannon.  Shoot up to 3 bullets with X.
Can slide with Down+Jump.
Mushroom: Can charge arm cannon.
Flower: Upgrades to flame rounds.

Samus
Has an arm cannon.  Shoot with X.
Can roll into a ball.  Press down.
Can drop bombs and bomb jump in ball mode.
Falls slower than average.
Mushroom: Upgrades to Long Beam
Flower: Upgrades to Wave Beam
#Casual
IC runs definitely, because anyone besides Mario is SLOWWWWWWW.

Also, Samus stinks at attack until wave Sad

And it seems you might as well jump over every enemy...
Waiting hurts my soul...
Link's boomerang will freeze enemies, but doesn't allow you to walk through them unharmed.

It would be cool if the game went through each of the games.
destroy them with lazers
i went through as billy cos im a man 8)

How could you forget about badass Simon Belmont?

Yeah, just press Up Up Down Down Left Right Left Right B A at the title screen.

KONAMI CODEEEEEEEEEEEEE Yeah, there's no way that I'm aware of to really unlock him.
This game is concrete proof that spread shot rapes everything, regardless of game setting.

The save file is kinda interesting to look at:

Quote:
<smbc_save_data>331,328,72,86,27068,32,34,32,32,32,32,114,116,115,117,165,167,142,90,0</smbc_save_data>

This starts Link at Fire Power, in 4-1 with 4 lives, 27,000 Points and 18 coins.

I haven't totally figured out how it works, but here's what I have.

#1 - World.  328 is World 1, 329 is World 2, 330 is World 3, 331 is World 4, 332 is World 5, 333 is World 6, 334 is World 7, 335 is World 8.  If you put something invalid, the game white screens when attempting to load the level.
#2 - Stage.  328 = Stage 1, 329 = Stage 2, 330 = Stage 3, 331 = Stage 4
#3 - Lives (Save file total - 68 = actual live total.)
#4 - Coins (Save file total - 68 = actual coin total.  167 gives you 99 coins.)
#5 - Score (Saved max seems to be 99999, which is in-game 99931.  So the save file score - 68 is your actual score.  However, you can go past 5 digits if you do it yourself.)
#6 - Bill (32 = Small, 33 = Big, 34 = Fire)
#7 - Link (32 = Small, 33 = Big, 34 = Fire)
#8 - Mario (32 = Small, 33 = Big, 34 = Fire)
#9 - Mega Man (32 = Small, 33 = Big, 34 = Fire)
#10 - Samus (32 = Small, 33 = Big, 34 = Fire)
#11 - Simon Belmont (32 = Small, 33 = Big, 34 = Fire)
#12-20 - Control Scheme
I'd like to see speedruns of the entire game with each of the characters.  (A Mega Man only run, Samus only, etc.)

This so seriously blows my mind that I'm afraid it'll get too much attention from Nintendo proper and they'll put a stop to it.  someone needs to find a way to download/continue to play this should Nintendo kill this.

Ever heard of a program called FlashOffliner? That should be able to do the trick. Smiley
Downloading is easy with firefox. Open the game site, once it's finished downloading open your firefox cache (located under C:\users\(username)\AppData\Local\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(some random characters)\Cache or similar) and look for the file that's 5296 KB in size. Copy it elsewhere (e.g. to your desktop) and give it the extension .swf. For playing just drag it into your browser.

I very highly doubt they're going to take legal action against this, even if it is popular. If anything, it's more reason for fans to get into their games. In case you couldn't tell, none of the characters control EXACTLY like they do in their respective games - not even Mario (pretty big difference, too). This is no replacement for SMB1.
Wow, this game's pretty darn addicting, and definitely worth a few IC runs. Kudos to whoever designed this game, it's absolutely brilliant. So far, I think the easiest characters to do a run with (besides Mario) would be either Billy or Simon. But Link is just hard as hell to play with. A run with him would really show off some skills.
Back in the game!
I wonder if there should be just one run?  I might see some areas where Mega Man seems faster.
Hey, thanks for the ideas downloading ideas, guys.  I'll try them.

I also want to qualify my speedrunning request: I'm no speedrunner (though I've given it some thought), but I find them INCREDIBLY entertaining.  I'm merely saying I would support and appreciate anyone willing to take this game on.

Every character plays differently enough that it's worth it to have an IC run for each character.  Then maybe a mixed run, but I have a feeling Mario would dominate it.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
doesn't mario move fastest? Also, control with Mario is pretty different...
I'm thinking more about a 100% speedrun, where everyone but Mario has jumping capabilities underwater, and they are all like Sammy's gravity suit on crack.  Also the fact that you can save powerups to a character and use them later might come in handy, i.e. maybe Mario is best in some areas, but in others, maybe Mega Man's sliding ability is best, since you can trail his fireball, which passes through walls and is a OHKO on all enemies that are not Koopa, for quite a ways as long as you are continuously sliding.

Just my two cents.  Speaking of which, if someone asks a penny for your thoughts, and you put your two cents in, where does the other penny go?

Taxes.

And it would seem appropriate then for a different category for each character and a "mixed" category.

I beat all the levels. I don't really like this game too much. I keep comparing them to the original games, and they don't measure up.

Mega Man's slide is faster than Mario's running, but Mega Man pauses for a bit as he's getting up, and obviously, can't slide in mid-air. The fact that there are a ton of pipes, pits, staircases, spinies, koopas and beetles in each level makes Mega Man take longer than Mario, generally.

Also I found Simon to be one of the hardest characters to use. O_o As for Link, he really shouldn't be this bad. He's easy to control in his games.
Waiting hurts my soul...
it'd be too easy, but I really wish samus had space jump or screw attack.

Speed booster+shine spark.
Someone finished 8-1 with Simon? It seems very hard due to the timer and the controls.

And I found a shortcut^^
