Congrats again. very nice playing in a short but very hard run like this. You did a lots of very tight moves. I saw a few very small mistakes so it can still be improved a little. But I have hard to see someone beat it soon.
Thanks guys. I admit, I made some silly mistakes in this run. I'd really like to perfect 7-2 though. That alone would save 10 seconds but would also require incredible precision!
My feelings on this can be best summed up by a conversation I had with Kareshi over AIM while watching this run (NOTE: Emptyeye and Kareshi are NOT our respective AIM names. Go ahead and send IMs to them if you want, but I take no responsibility if you wind up talking to some horny middle-aged dudes).
Emptyeye: Wow, great Triclyde fight. Kareshi: Yeah. His thing with the bird gate is great too. Emptyeye: Haven't gotten that far. Hope it lives up to the Daikatana-like hype you've now given it. *I watch birdgate fight* Emptyeye: WHAT WAS THAT!?? Jeez....great Wart fight too, pity about that one vegetable getting bubbled.
Excellent, excellent run, despite the vegetable thing.
How do you hit that flying head thing twice in one throw in level 7-2?
Do you have to get hit the second it gets hit?
I haven't tried in forever, but it almost always works for me. I think it's just like hitting Birdo twice with a block; it hits twice from the bouncing.

I hate 6-3. I can never do it as well as I'd like to. Toad's jump is way to low for me to accomplish anything.
Since I "invented" this, I'll try to explain. You have to leave the rightmost block on the ground of course. Then you jump towards him, and when you are up against the wall and at the max height of your jump, you throw the block back left and it will still hit him. Sorry I can't think of what else to say if it doesn't work.
well today I made an attempt of this and failed horribly. I got to wart in 9:20. I guess if I pulled it off smooth it would have been about 10 minutes flat. With two deaths that's not bad at all though. unfortunately I died. 7-2 is such a pain!
EDIT: This game is annoying. Trying to get a ton of lives just to practice the levels because I dont have an emulator/ and want to practice on console. 6-3 is so frustrating, this is a tough run to beat. :-/
Yeah, I don't think I could've pulled my run off without practicing certain parts extensively, including Triclyde in 6-3. To hit the eagle head twice, jump on the bricks sitting beneath him, jump again, and throw the block just before you collide with him.
Do you really think under 9:00 is possible for someone to do? a 20 seconds improvement on your run doesn't seem possible. If you had done your run perfectly through, I mean did everything the way you wanted to, what do you think your time would have been? I'd think you only made like 9-12 seconds in mistakes. I would think about 9:06 would be perfect, unless you used some strange TAS-like tactic.
A perfect run without glitches would be 8:54, maybe slightly less. Playing 7-2 perfectly would save 9-10 seconds from my run, but it would have to be absolutely perfect in order for you to get to Wart "on time". My tactics weren't 100%. Using the key against Birdo in 1-2 saves one second. Picking up the first enemy in 6-1 saves a bit of time. Birdo in 6-3 can be killed much faster. I'm confident that I could pull off a 9 min run, but I have no inclination to do so and would rather see someone else do it.
Well I posted my 9:18 HERE. The vid's supposed to be normal quality, though the sound sucks and the deinterlacing is out the window. I'll eventually record a better run for SDA, but until then...
Can you send any sort of direct link to the video? It just takes me to the myspace videos main page, and I don't even know where to begin searching for it.

well If 7-2 can be improved by 10 seconds, I see how that is possible. I still have doubts that someone could get below 9:00.

Yeah I noticed these myself. In 6-1 there were lots of little things that were done that I assumed were for expediency.
The only thing I didn't understand is why you fell down right instead of left in that jar with the digging in 6-1. I think everything else you either: mentioned already, would be easier, or was a small but obvious mistake.
