Amazing run, so many tricks I've never seen. I take back my word.

Also, it seems that the PAL/NTSC speed ratio is 5:6, at least for the slide timing (which is not in realtime in the PAL version).  With this ratio, the 3:15 run I recorded but was not satisfied with translates to 2:43 on NTSC.

Try timing some cutscenes.. like the credits, and cannon animations.
Finally finished watching it...  Great stuff! Smiley
MGS for PS1 forever.
I finally got to watch it from start to finish after 5-6 days of 24/7 downloading on my 56k. It is definitely a pet peeve of mine to go over to a friends house who has cable internet and a CDR but doesn't know how to put stuff on to cds and doesn't have cds. Grrrrr.

Anyway...I was very impressed with the run. Near the end I started to think that the 3 other deaths didn't happen because so much time had past with you not dying. Heck, with all of the stunts and tricks you did I wouldn't've cared if you'd died 10 or more times. Also, kudos to you for not doing it in multiple-segments even if you did pause it a few times.

I'm curious if Radix would allow a 100%+ considering that in many levels you can get more than 100 coins. Not that I would do that or that anyone would actually go to the trouble to do that...just wondering.

Getting extra coins is just a waste of time.... coins aren't the 100%, stars are.

Like I said, just wondering. Grin

Nice 120 stars run!

Not flawless, but amazing for a single segment run.   Grin

I'm not 100% satisfied, that's the reason why I said "not flawless", but I want to respect his run. BTW it was a lot of fun it.  Grin
it was pretty nice. there're mistakes here and there, but i enjoyed it.
the thing i cant help but ask is if camera's could be used better.
i know it certain parts like the bridge with coins in TALL TALL MOUNTAIN, the ledge at the top of level 11 (the Waterworld... holy crap, i forgot what its called!!), most ANY "slide" or "race" and a few others where it might help if you switched to Mario view and pulled the camera away. i saw it once in the Desert that i can remember off hand. it just helps personally so that you get behind mario as opposed to lukita's moving around. of course, fixed angle may help as well for this, i just usually do the Mario view out of habit.
i wish i had more in the way of help to offer.

it was also kind of nice, one minute you'd mess up in some part and the next was some trick id of never even thought of... which might not be saying much cause id never really tried anything new in that game.

all around, i liked it. but i have a question on the subject of other speedruns... i dont know if its been asked or not...

would a "get single star" run be of any use? i know that theres something like that, that kind of goes level by level for other games like DOOM and SMW2, and was wondering if it were possible here. and if not just 1 star, then just one world. its just a thought. that way he wouldnt have to worry about it being a SINGLE SEGMENT run; which kudos to anyone who does those things... especially the metroid ones for GBA.

anyhow, its quite nice in part but does need some cleaning up. good job though.

A lot of times it would be like watching a person who has no idea how to do anything in Super Mario 64, but then a split-second later you would pull some trick or stunt that would make me wonder "was that on purpose or was he just lucky?" You weren't drunk when you were playing, were you?

Because of your on-the-edge-of-your-seat playing it was very entertaining.

Maybe I'll do a 120 star run sometime in the future. Your run was nice, although rough around the edges. Particularly the camera angles -- I was going crazy due to the fact you never used the hold position camera. It makes life so much easier in so many areas.

There was also some parts that you obviously should have practiced because they're not that hard when you know exactly what to do. Like the first star in Snow Man's Land...oh man. You must have wasted a good five minutes on that one, although it was amusing. You should get it everytime like I did if you know where to aim.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Well lets not exaggerate, but you did lose a lot of time on that easy star. I think you also should have practiced where to shoot the cannon in Jolly Roger to hit the pillar at the right height...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I tried to make a better 120 star speedrun, but it is impossible with PAL version ... i tried it, and its slower and some things are impossible to make!!

like the first star, first level:

jumping with the three-jump ! to come up faster to the mountain. u have to go over this white thing, but u cant get it ... i tried it about an hour...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
On the contrary, the triple jump up the white slope works the same way in both versions.  In fact, the PAL version might be easier since it is slower.  The last jump in the triple jump must start on the white slope, and not before it.

The speed ratio is around 5/6, so you can consider yourself to have beaten that run if you get under 3:33:20.

Hey guys, I am currently playing Mario 64 for speedrunning, 16 stars. My record now is 28"58 (17 star run, I grabed the bunny star, oops ;D) I would like to know the pal record for this run, and with that I mean the best vid available. SDA does not have one so maybe someone knows a link to a vid. I saw the 20:56 NTSC run so I wonder what time that would be in PAL (around 26 I think) or is PAL totaly different from NTSC?

Thanks Smiley
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
It's closer to 25 minutes. If it weren't for the randomness of the glitches I'd try to beat the NTSC time, but I hate having perfect runs up to the doors or stairs then ruining it.
Ben Goldberg
I think there is no pal record, so that time you put up should be the new pal record. Oh yea.
But you'd better make it good Stefan, try going under 28 (or 27) before submitting. The NTSC record in PAL-speak should be a fair length under the 26 minute mark, but Illu is a bit crazy so you don't have to go that far.

Got 26"58 Grin

Its on my tape. If I make a vid of it can I submit it to the site? Or does the time need to be lower? I think it would be the fastest vid availeble. Hope to show it to you guys soon :). Thank for reply's

Although it might be impossible to convert times between one and the other, it's important that any time in pal approaches an "equivalent performance" as the ntsc run.  So if you think your run is close to the level of Ilari's run, then by all means go ahead and capture it for us.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I think it's almost 2 minutes slower than the NTSC 20:56 if you do the math.
Who doesn't love YaBB 1G - SP1!
yes you'r right my time would be 22"30 in NTSC so about 1,30 slower as illu. I made the vid and will show it anytime soon. If you look at the vid you see that I lose about one munute for the 4 glitches the rest was pretty smooth. I will try to get at least low 26 but 25 will be too hard for me at the moment but sure possible in the future.

its 130 MB sorry but I wanted to keep the quality, sound is not syngronized, I'm still looking for a way to fix that.

Have fun Smiley

I have a problem with space so I will make the vid smaller and post it again. The link now isnt even the hole vid by my mistake, just wait and I will putt up a smaller one soon
